  • A city is like a living organism that is born, grows and become extinct within an ecosystem. In recent years, more and more cities have been planned by designers rather than spontaneously growing over time. This planning means that if a city is not appropriately designed at the beginning, it is very hard to fix or adjust it later. A poor urban design inconveniences many people, and forces them to adjust to it. For this reason, it is important to design a city as optimally as possible at the design phase. One of the reasons why a city is not designed optimally is complexity. Previous urban design methods have attempted to resolve the complexity by using a top-down problem-solving method based on the experience and knowledge of the urban planner. However, such an approach does not have the organic characteristics of a bottom-up problem-solving method of an artificial life, based on the creation principle of the ecosystem. Therefore, in this study the general principle of artificial life, which can provide a solution to the bigger problems that accumulate as a result of the solutions to small units of problems, is adopted. This enables us to draw various urban design alternatives, and it proves that the alternatives, despite being drawn through a limited modeling method, have almost no differences from those designed by an expert, and its possibilities of future development has also been verified.

  • It pollute the earth environment with systematic industrialization. Also the congestion of cities that ignore ecosystem threaten habitation environment of human. For ESSD make progress to many researches internal and external. However we don't develop model for internal environment, research evaluation of ecological polis for this. The present research put in operation that make up question experts. In the event many people know necessity of ecological development. But It point out reality with many phases. One side we need to educate, publicize about environment. make good model and cultivate process.

  • Nowadays, interests on Eco-city planning as Solution for problems of energy demand and environmental change has grown. so Eco-city planning became a major political topic for urban planning and urban design in many advanced nation cities. The purpose of this study is to find out the organized characteristics of Eco-City planning by analyzing successful overseas case where wasted historic port area in city is are regenerated with a environment-friendly concept for Eco-City "HafenCity". It is located on Hamburg-mitte in Hamburg, Germany and is currently the largest construction project in Europe. HafenCity as Home to about 12,000 and the workplace of 40,000 people is being created to accommodate a variety of uses including residential buildings, business, office and retail space as well as cultural and leisure facilities. First of all, HafenCity impresses because of its size as well as because of its Urban planning for eco-city. It presents the excellent change from wasted historic port to the ecological urban space.

  • The purpose of this study is to decide the suitability of the land use on eco-city by analysing ecological elements using GIS. Selected ecological elements for suitability analysis were altitude, slope, watershed, biotope, soil productivity, visual sensitivity, vegetation, and green connection. The category of each element was classified into 5 grades, and was given weight according to each element. The maximum value of each element was extracted from overlay analysis process. The result of analysis was classified into 5 grade finally. As a result, land use was proposed to be development, conservation, and preservation area.

  • The aim of this study is to compare the effects of the maintenance water supply methods on the ecological restoration of 5 urban streams such as Mugeo cheon, Yaksa cheon, Yeocheon cheon, Myeongjeong cheon and Cheokgwa cheon in Ulsan metropolitan city. Water quality of the streams have been innovatively improved and the ecosystems have gradually been restored by supplying maintenance water constantly. However, we found that if the maintenance water was in a state of higher salinity or low quality, even enough supply was not helpful and even harmful for ecological restoration. We confirmed that the most important things to create or maintain from the urban stream to the ecological stream are that facilities like a walkway construction should be installed at least, supplying appropriate maintenance water, and a connection with the main stream.

  • This study was carried out to obtain ecological information necessary for a conservation plan based on the distributional patterns, wetland types, and hydrophytic characteristics of urban wetlands in Seongnam City, Kyunggi Province where representing the various patterns of land use made by rapid urbanization since 1970s. Total 162 sites of four wetland types were identified as urban wetlands during the first survey. The sites were classified into 55 forested swamps, 4 riverine wetlands, 62 abandoned paddy fields, 37 small ponds, and 4 reservoirs, etc. The second survey targeted 107 sites which were identified as good wetlands. It showed that 42 sites(about 39%) were already degraded due to drainage, landfill, and crop cultivation at 6 months intervals. Both hydrologic conditions and hydrophytic characteristics of 27 good wetlands help maintain current ecological status, but most wetlands have been degraded by artificial impacts. Among 184 species identified, only 75 species(about 40.7%) were hydrophytes. Prevalence Index of hydrophyte based on three categories of OBL(obligatory wetland plant), FAC(facultitative plant), UPL(obligatory upland plant) was 3.7, indicating that vegetation data alone is inadequate to designate as wetlands. This study revealed that as critical habitats for wildlife they playa vital role in ecotone between both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem with its proper distributional pattern in spite of their small areas compared to the entire geographic region of the City.
