Ecotourism Planning Framework for Korean Rural Communities(I) - A Case Study in Jeongdori, Wandogun, Korea - (농어촌지역의 생태관광지 육성을 위한 계획모형(I) - 전남 완도군 정도리지역에서의 사례연구 -)

  • Ecotourism has surged from conflicts between negative impacts of mass tourism and environmental issues. As an alternative tourism, ecotourism compromises extensively environmental, economic, educational, and cultural concerns. Ecotourism can be defined as environment-based tourism that ensures sustainable growth and development through conservation of natural and human environment, promotion of regional economy, and provision of tourism service in natural environment areas. Ecotourism should consider two key challenges; an effective means that may protect local economy through tourist-based income and improvement of residential circumstances, and role as leisure space that can improve tourist's experiences. The purpose of this study was to summarize ecotourism concepts through literature search and develop an ecotourism planning framework for Korean rural communities. In addition, developed planning framework in this study was applied to Jeongdori area, Wandogun, Korea as a case study in order to analyze its feasibility. A trial application in Jeongdori area demonstrated a possibility that ecotourism planning framework can be successfully adopted to a wide range of Korean rural communities. To ensure objectivity of framework, systematic case studies must be done in the future.

Categorization of Citiesin Gyeonggi-do Using Ecosystem Service Bundles (생태계서비스 번들을 이용한 경기도 도시의 유형화)

  • The concept of ecosystem services is important for the effective management of regional ecological resources. Multiple ecosystem services provided by regional ecosystems are represented as ecosystem service bundles, which define the co-occurrent ecosystem services in a specific region. Bundles provide useful information to identify regional characteristics of ecosystem services and categorize sub-regions with similar patterns of ecosystem service provision. We assessed eleven ecosystem services using modeling approaches and statistical data and produced bundles of cities in Gyeonggi-do.We also conducted principal component analysis and cluster analysis to categorize these cities according to the characteristics of ecosystem services. The results indicated that the cities in Gyeonggi-do were categorized into three groups depending on the types of provision,regulation, and cultural services, and were designated as urbanized, urban-forest, agriculture, or forest cities. These groups were influenced by land use patterns reflecting regional social-environmental features. The results provide useful information for identifying regional ecosystem services and facilitate decision-making in regional ecosystem service management.

  • The purpose of this paper is to create an inter-religious dialogue between the Western Christian concept of the spirit and Eastern ch'i philosophy within the category of panentheism. The Hebrew term ruah means 'moving air' and 'wind' which derive from the particular experience of the ancient Hebrew people living in the desert. The Greek pnuema also means 'life' and 'wind' which denote the natural power. Both ruah and pneuma consist of the main idea of the spirit exploring the symbol of relationality of the divine in Western tradition. Eastern ch'i philosophy indicates a vital force for keeping the body and soul alive, which is unconscious and spontaneous. Ch'i as a vital force constitutes cosmogony and cosmology with the constant movement of yin and yang. Yin and Yang as representing earth and heaven are dynamic breaths, blending harmoniously to become all existence. The ethical implication of the inter-religious dialogue between the spirit and ch'i would be the integration and interconnection of heaven, earth, and human beings. The dialogue suggests becoming one body with nature and human community through embodying the non-dualistic spirit of life. The inter-relationality means that since all modalities of existence are made of the cosmic life, human beings are part of the divine cosmic process. This is related to degree of spirituality in the entire chain of being: rocks, trees, animals, humans, and goods represent different levels of spirituality based on the varying composition of the spirit and ch'i. All beings that internally embody with the spirit and ch'i are organically inter-connected, and they are integral part of a continuous process of transformation of life towards holistic liberation of human and nature community.

Conceptual eco-hydrological model reflecting the interaction of climate-soil-vegetation-groundwater table in humid regions (습윤 지역의 기후-토양-식생-지하수위 상호작용을 반영한 개념적인 생태 수문 모형)

  • Vegetation processes have a significant impact on rainfall runoff processes through evapotranspiration control, but are rarely considered in the conceptual lumped hydrological model. This study evaluated the model performance of the Hapcheon Dam watershed by integrating the ecological module expressing the leaf area index data sensed remotely from the satellite into the hydrological partition module. The proposed eco-hydrological model has three main features to better represent the eco-hydrological process in humid regions. 1) The growth rate of vegetation is constrained by water shortage stress in the watershed. 2) The maximum growth of vegetation is limited by the energy of the watershed climate. 3) The interaction of vegetation and aquifers is reflected. The proposed model simultaneously simulates hydrologic components and vegetation dynamics of watershed scale. The following findings were found from the validation results using the model parameters estimated by the SCEM algorithm. 1) Estimating the parameters of the eco-hydrological model using the leaf area index and streamflow data can predict the streamflow with similar accuracy and robustness to the hydrological model without the ecological module. 2) Using the remotely sensed leaf area index without filtering as input data is not helpful in estimating streamflow. 3) The integrated eco-hydrological model can provide an excellent estimate of the seasonal variability of the leaf area index.

UNESCO Mixed Heritage Concept Sustainable Preservation of Gochang Maritime Religious Relics (유네스코 복합유산 개념으로 본 고창 해양신앙유적의 지속가능한 보존)

  • Community beliefs of the coastal villages in Gochang are cultural activities and rituals manifesting the hopes and spiritual worlds of the locals who live off the sea and tidal mud. Along with their societal functions wishing for peace, maritime safety, and good catches, the values of the Jwajeongdam (How god came to be), Yuraedam (History of worshipping), and Yeongheomdam (Stories of miracles), as living heritage need to be reexamined according to the recent Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The community beliefs of the coastal villages in Gochang, where outstanding universal intangible and tangible values coexist, have been perpetually transmitted in interactions with tidal mud and the ecological environments of the sea. They reinforce the "Outstanding Universal Value" UNESCO mentions and sustainability that connects the past, present, and future. Furthermore, a coastal area is endowed with international accessibility over regionality. Hence the community beliefs are charged with eco-cultural values, which its preservation and promotion should also focus on to provide policies and protection activities. In short, the tidal mud and community beliefs of coastal villages in Gochang, which according to the concept of UNESCO's "mixed heritage," meet the values for natural, cultural, and intangible heritage at the same time, and so must be approached not in the scope of points or lines, but also in surfaces when arranging protection initiatives.

Evaluation of Water Quality Management of Estuarine Reservoir Based on Resilience Analysis Framework (회복탄력성 프레임워크 기반 담수호 수질 개선 방안 평가)

  • 우리나라 하구에 조성된 담수호의 수자원은 다양한 용수 목적에 맞게 활용하고 있으며, 수질 기준에 부합하는 용수를 공급하고 담수호 및 간척지의 친환경적 가치를 높이기 위해서는 담수호의 상류 유역 및 유입 오염물질, 그리고 담수호 수체 특성에 대한 종합적인 이해를 기반으로 수질 오염 관리 대책을 수립하는 것이 중요하다. 일반적으로 담수호 개선을 위한 방안의 선정 방식은 연평균 수질 농도를 기준으로 목표하고자 하는 수질 기준의 만족 여부에 대한 평가와 경제적 평가를 함께 고려하여 최적의사결정 기반으로 주로 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 기존의 평가 방법에서는 목표 수질의 만족 여부가 중요하다는 점에서 담수호 수자원의 시기별 활용성에 대한 고려를 간과하기 쉽다. 또한 담수호 수자원 시스템의 수질 악화에 대한 회복탄력성을 높이는 일은 단순히 유역관리대책의 적용에 따른 수질 개선 문제와는 별도로 담수호 수자원 시스템의 지속 가능성과 연관된다는 점에서 기존의 평가 방식을 보완하기 위한 수단이 필요하다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 담수호 수자원 관리 방안을 평가하는 데 있어서 회복탄력성의 개념을 활용하였으며, 각 방안에 대한 시간적 변화에 따른 담수호의 회복탄력성 특징을 고려하기 위하여 동적 회복탄력성 개념 및 평가 방법을 도입하였다. 본 연구에서는 우선 기존의 수질 평가 방법에 따라 간월호를 대상으로 수질 개선 방안별 수질 변화를 SWAT-EFDC 연계모형을 통해 모의하고, 연평균 수질 농도와 총인 삭감량에 대해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 간월호의 지형학적 특성에 따라 간월호 상류 구간의 수질 농도가 다른 구간에 비해 높게 나타났으며, 상류 구역의 경우 준설 시나리오만으로는 목표 수질을 달성하기 어려운 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 상류 구역의 수질 목표 달성을 위해서는 준설 시나리오만으로는 한계가 있으므로 상류 유역 출구부에 위치한 하수처리시설의 총인 배출부하량을 삭감과 추가적인 유역 수질 관리 대책이 필요하다.

Watershed priority evaluation for water circulation management (물순환 관리를 위한 소권역 우선순위평가)

  • 급격한 도시화와 이로인한 불투수면의 증가는 유역의 물순환을 왜곡시키고 있다. 직접유출의 증가와 침투량 감소로 이어지며 이는 지하수 함유량의 감소와 하천건천화를 유발한다. 환경부는 더 이상의 물순환 왜곡을 막기위해 물환경보전법상의 물순환율을 정의하고 물순환 관리목표를 설정하였으며, 제3차 강우유출 비점오염원관리 종합대책에서 물순환 사업 추진을 위한 소권역 별 우선순위산정을 과제로써 제시하고 있다. 대표적인 물순환 사업은 저영향개발기법 설치이다. 저영향 개발기법은 토지 및 공간을 이용해야하기 때문에 설치비용이 높고 위치선정에 제약이 많으며 유지관리도 어렵다. 이에 물순환 사업에는 단순 불투수면 뿐만아니라 사회, 경제적 요소까지 고려하여야한다. 본 연구에서는 물순환 우선순위를 산정하기위해 불투수면뿐만 아니라 사회, 경제적 요소까지 고려한 종합적인 우선순위를 산정하였다. 유역 물순환 평가를 위해 PSR framework을 이용하였다. PSR framework는 OECD가 개발한 지속가능성 평가 개념이며, Pressure, State, Response 세 가지 요소로 구분해 평가하게된다. PSR framework의 기본 개념은 인간의 활동들이 환경에 압력 (P)를 주고, 이로 인해 자연의 질과 영향 (S)을 미치며, 이에대한 회복을 위해 인식과 행동을 통해 정책과 제도 등을 통해 반응 (R)한다는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 PSR framework의 평가요소 Pressure는 불투수면 및 강우, State는 물순환, 하수관거, 수질, 수생태계, Response는 협력, 인식, 재정, 토지로 구분하여 평가하였다. 최종적으로 불투수면적 감축 대상 소권역('30년 무대책 불투수면적률 25% 이상)소권역에 대하여 최종우선순위를 산정하였다.

Research on Residential Ecology Conversion Education in Home Economics Education for Carbon Neutrality Practice (탄소중립 실천을 위한 가정과교육에서의 주생활 생태전환교육 방향)

  • The advent of the carbon neutrality era has led to a paradigm shift in education toward ecological transition education. It is time to understand the concept and practice of ecological transition education pursued in the 2022 revised curriculum and prepare for changes to the main life education covered in home economics education. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the role of home economics education for carbon neutrality for future generations who will have to live in the era of rapidly changing climate crisis, and to propose a practice plan for ecological transition education in the main living area based on the educational contents of the 2022 revised curriculum. To achieve these objectives, this study reviewed previous research on carbon neutrality and ecological transition education, analyzed the curriculum for main life from the first curriculum to the 2022 revised curriculum, and proposed the direction of main life education for ecological transition education. Through this study, the importance of carbon neutrality and ecological transition can be emphasized in home economics education, and it is expected that it can be used as a basis for realizing ecological transition education in actual education sites.

Safety Assessment for LILW Near-Surface Disposal Facility Using the IAEA Reference Model and MASCOT Program (IAEA의 기준모델과 MASCOT 프로그램을 이용한 중저준위방사성폐기물 천층처분시설 안전성평가)

  • A reference scenario of vault safety case prepared by the IAEA for the near-surface disposal facility of low-and informed]ate-level radioactive wastes is assessed with the MASCOT program. The appropriate conceptual models for the MASCOT implementation is developed. An assessment of groundwater pathway through a drinking well as a geosphere-biosphere interface is performed first. then biosphere pathway is analysed to estimate the radiological consequences of the disposed radionuclides based on compartment modeling approach. The validity of conceptual modeling for the reference scenario is investigated where possible comparing to the results generated by the other assessment. The result of this study shows that the typical conceptual model for groundwater pathway represented by the compartment model ran be satisfactorily used for safety assessment of the entire disposal system in a cons]stent way. It is also shown that safety assessment of a disposal facility considering complex and various pathways would be possible by the MASCOT program.
