  • Biophysical and biochemical processes through which crops interact with the atmosphere have been simulated using land surface models and crop growth models. The Noah Multi Physics (MP) model and the CERES-Rice model, which are a land surface model, and a crop growth model, respectively, were used to simulate and compare rice growth and evapotranspiration (ET) in the areas near Haenam flux tower in Korea. Simulations using these models were performed from 2003 to 2012 during which flux measurements were obtained at the Haenam site. The Noah MP model failed to simulate the pattern of temporal change in leaf area index (LAI) after heading. The simulated aboveground biomass with the Noah MP model was underestimated by about 10% of the actual biomass. The ET simulated with the Noah MP model was as low as 21% of those with the CERES-Rice model. In comparison with actual ET measured at Haenam flux site, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the Noah MP model was 1.8 times larger than that of the CERES-Rice model. The Noah MP model seems to show less reliable simulation of crop growth and ET due to simplified phenology processes and assimilates partitioning compared with the CERES-Rice model. When ET was adjusted by the ratio between leaf biomass simulated using CERES-Rice model and Noah MP model, however, the RMSE of ET was reduced by 30%. This suggests that an improvement of the Noah MP model in representing rice growth in paddy fields would allow more reliable simulation of matter and energy fluxes.

  • In this paper, we present a patient real-time vital sign information transmission system to effectively support developing real-time communication service by using a real-time object model named TMO (Time-Triggered Message-Triggered Object). Also, we describe the application environment as the ICU(Intensive Care Unit) to guarantee real-time service message with TMO structure in distributed network systems. We have to design to obtain useful vital sign information, which is generated at parsing data receiver modulor of HIS with TMO structure, that is offered by the central monitor. Vital sign informations of central monitor is composed of the raw data of several bedsite patient monitors. We are willing to maintain vital sign information of real time and continuity that is generated from the bedsite patient monitor. It is able to apply to remote medical examination and treatment. we proposed integration method between a vital sign database systems and hospital information systems. In the real time simulation techniques based on TMO object modeling, We have observed several advantages to the TMO structuring scheme. TMO object modeling has a strong traceability between requirement specification and design.

  • As the type and size of vital signs become extensive at the moment lately, a research is actively progressing to define vital signs as big data and analyze it. We generally use a similar method of processing big data on social network as a way to treat vital signs as big data. Vital Sign Big Data should be extracted as feature data, stored separately, and analyzed with various analytical instruments. In other words, it should ensure interoperability and compatability of data, and the index expression in analytical tools should be concise. For this end, I defined the vital sign as the standard meta-model base of HL7 in this dissertation, and I propose a model for analyzing vital signs using OCL, the OMG's standard mathematical specification language. In addition, the proposed model can be confirmed the applicability by figuring out the consumption of calories using ECG data.

  • While biometric authentication system has been in general use, research is ongoing to apply biometric data to public key infrastructure. It is a significant task to generate a cryptographic key from biometrics in setting up a public key of Bio-PKI. Methods for generating the key by quantization of feature vector can cause data loss and degrade the performance of key extraction. In this paper, we suggest a new method for generating a cryptographic key from classification results of biometric data using multiple classifying models. Our proposal does not cause data loss of feature vector so it showed better performance in key extraction. Also, it uses the multiple models to generate key blocks which produce sufficient length of the key.

  • Development and validation of crop models often require measurements of biomass for the crop of interest. Considerable efforts would be needed to obtain a reasonable amount of biomass data because the destructive sampling of a given crop is usually used. The Kinect sensor, which has a combination of image and depth sensors, can be used for estimating crop biomass without using destructive sampling approach. This approach could provide more data sets for model development and validation. The objective of this study was to examine the applicability of the Kinect sensor for estimation of chinese cabbage fresh weight. The fresh weight of five chinese cabbage was measured and compared with estimates using the Kinect sensor. The estimates were obtained by scanning individual chinese cabbage to create point cloud, removing noise, and building a three dimensional model with a set of free software. It was found that the 3D model created using the Kinect sensor explained about 98.7% of variation in fresh weight of chinese cabbage. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient between estimates and measurements were highly significant, which suggested that the Kinect sensor would be applicable to estimation of fresh weight for chinese cabbage. Our results demonstrated that a depth sensor allows for a non-destructive sampling approach, which enables to collect observation data for crop fresh weight over time. This would help development and validation of a crop model using a large number of reliable data sets, which merits further studies on application of various depth sensors to crop dry weight measurements.

  • Human pharynx is unique, acting as a complex interchange between the oral cavity and esophagus, and between the nasal cavity and lungs. It is actively involved in the transport of food and liquid, producing the forces that guide that bolus into the upper esophagus and away from the adjacent larynx and lungs. This study intended to develop a biomechanical model of the human pharynx, utilizing Finite Element Method(FEM). Within each model changes in cross sectional intralumenal area were calculated and compared with the area from the computer-generated FE model. Area matching allowed estimation of intraluminal pressure gradients during swallow. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradient varies from one region to another. The estimated pharyngeal pressure gradients showed different patterns for upper four levels and lower four levels. The contraction velocity for upper four levels is much higher than lower four levels. The higher contraction velocities and pressure gradients in the upper levels are consistent with the bolus velocities required for efficient swallow.
