Estimation of Nitrogen Uptake and Biomass of Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Using Ground-based Remote Sensing Techniques (지상 원격측정 센서를 활용한 벼의 생체량과 질소 흡수량 추정)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the usefulness of ground-based remote sensing for the estimation of rice yield and application rate of N-fertilizer during growing season. Dongjin-1, Korean cultivar of rice was planted on May 30, 2006 and harvested on October 9, 2006. Chlorophyll content and LAI (leaf area index) were measured using Minolta SPAD-502 and AccuPAR model LP-80, respectively. Reflectance indices were determined with passive sensors using sunlight and four types of active sensors using modulated light, respectively. Reflectance indices and growth rate were measured three times from 29 days to 87 days after rice plating and at harvesting day. The result showed that values of growing characteristics and reflectance indices were highly correlated. Growing characteristics to show significant correlation with reflectance indices were in order of followings: fresh weight > N uptake > dry weight > height > No. of tiller > N content. Chlorophyll contents measured by chlorophyll meter (SPAD 502) showed high correlation with nitrogen concentration (r=$0.743^{**}$), although the correlation coefficients between remote sensing data and nitrogen concentration were higher. LAI was highly correlated with dry weight (r=$0.931^{**}$), but relationship between LAI and nitrogen concentration (r=$0.505^*$) was relatively low. The data of CC-passive sensor were negatively correlated with those of the near-infrared. NDVI correlation coefficients found more useful to identify the growth characteristics rather than data from single wavelength. Both passive sensor and active sensor were highly significantly correlated with growth characteristics. Consequently, quantifying the growth characteristics using reflectance indices of ground-based remote sensing could be a useful tool to determine the application rate of N fertilizer non-destructively and in real-time.

Hormonal Effect on the Callus Induction from Perennial Weeds (다년생잡초(多年生雜草)로부터 Callus 유도(誘導)와 생장조절제(生長調節劑)의 영향(影響))

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate effect of various hormones on callus induction, and on plantlet formation on various media, and to detect of Londax [Methyl 2-[[[[[(4,6-dimethoxy pyrimidin-2-yl) amino] carbonyl] amono] sulfonyl) methyl] benzoate] and Basta[Ammonium-(3-amino-3-carboxy-propyl)-methyl phosphinate] on callus growth and reaction of succinate dehydrogenase in callus against TTC, using various species such as Eleocharis kuroguwai, Cyperus serotinus, Oryza sativa (samgangbyeo) and Echinochloa crusgalli P. Beauv. var. caudata Kitagawa. The optimal levels of 2,4-D in MS medium seems to be different among species tested, 2.0 ppm for rice and E. crusgalli, 1.0 ppm for Eleocharis kuroguwai, and 4.0 ppm for C. serotinus derived callus from shoot-tip. In case of combination of 2,4-D with BA, 1.0 plus 0.3 ppm appeared the most appropriate level to induce callus from rice and E. kuroguwai, and I.0 plus 0.1 ppm for C. serotinus and E. crusgalli. When 2,4-D treated with TIBA, 1.0 plus 0.5 ppm appeared the most appropriate rates to induce callus derived from seeds of rice, E. crusgalli, seeds of C. serotinus and E. kuroguwai, 1.0 plus 0.3 ppm for shoot-tip of C. serotinus. Positive reaction of succinate dehydrogenase against TTC was observed regardless of calli and herbicides tested, indicating that they all are alive, and these herbicides were not able to kill the calli tested within the short period of time 20 hrs treatment. Regardless of plant species used, the rate of plantlet formation from callus was very low. However, some plantlet formed from E. crusgalli at 0.8 ppm of 2,4-D plus 8.0 ppm of kinetin, and from E. kuroguwai at 1.6 ppm of 2,4-D plus 16.0 ppm of kinetin, showing effectiveness of 2,4-D with kinetin mixture treatment. No callus was induced from C. serotinus treated with Basta from $10^{-6}M$ to $10^{-3}M$. In general, rice was the least susceptible to Basta among plant species tested, followed by E. crusgalli, and E. kuroguwai. In Londax treatment, rice showed the least inhibition rate in callus growth. Callus was induced from rice even at $10^{-3}M$ of Londax. However, $10^{-3}M$ of Londax completely inhibited callus induction from the test species. Rice showed most tolerant to both herbicides, indicating the existence of different responses among plant species.

Studies on the Bioavailable Amino Acid of Feather Meals Processed by Different Methods - Available Amino Acid on the Meal Feeding of Semipurified and Purified Diet with Chick - (가공방법을 달리한 우모분의 아미노산 이용율에 관한 연구(I) -순수사료와 준순수사료의 Meal Feeding 하에서의 아미노산 이용율 -)

  • This study was conducted to bioassay of amino acid availability of feather meal processed by a different methods, commercial feather meal and raw feather meal, The feather meals were processed by labolatory pressure cooker(autoclave) at 2kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 30 minutes ; 3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 90 minutes : 4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 120 minutes. Chick employed in the present experiment were Abor Acre strain, male or meat type (body weight, 100-140g), fed with semipurified diet and protein free diet was given during the determination of the metabolic and endogeneous amino acid. The contents of amino acid of samples were investigated by ion-exchange chromatography. The results were as follows; 1. The amino acid availability of raw, 2kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 30 minutes, commercial, 4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 120 minutes and 3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 90 minutes of feather meal were -3.09, 63.28, 67.47, 71.22 and 73.75% respectively. 2. The essential amino acid availability of raw, 2kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 30 minutes, commercial, 4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 120 minutes and 3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 90 minutes of feather meal were 2.55, 66.78, 66.89, 72,56 and 73.62%, respectively. 3. In individual amino acid of the different processing loather meal and commercial feather meal, biovailabilities were increased methionine, phenylalanine, leucine, arginine, threonine, isoleucine, however, histidine, lysine and aspartic acid were remarkely decreased. In conclusion, the bioavailability or amino acid for the feather meal processed at 3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 90 minutes was superior to those of other treatment or raw feather meal.

Effects of a 12-week, school-based obesity management program on obese primary school children (12주간의 학교 비만 관리 프로그램이 초등학교 비만 아동에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : This study was designed to determine the effects of a school-based obesity-management program on obese primary school children. Methods : A total of 995 children (6-2 years old) in a primary school were screened in March 2008, and of those, 101 obese students (44 boys and 57 girls, body mass index (BMI) ${\geq}95$ percentile) were enrolled for a study group. The schoo-lbased, obesity management program, which includes physical exercise and nutritional education, was conducted as part of an extracurricular program for 12 weeks. The measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure (BP), and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) was performed before and after the program.Results : Height and weight increased significantly (P <0.05). The BMI and obesity index decreased significantly (P <0.01). Systolic and diastolic BP decreased significantly (P <0.01). BMI decreased in 61.4% of boys and 66.7% of girls. Protein and basal metabolic rate (BMR) increased significantly on the BIA (P <0.01). Fat decreased significantly (P <0.05). The total body water (TBW) and percent body fat (PBF) decreased significantly (P <0.01). The changes in protein, fat, TBW, PBF, and BMR significantly correlated to the change in BMI (P <0.05). In a multiple logistic regression analysis, BMI change was significantly correlated to the changes in protein and fat content (P <0.01). Conclusion : The school-based obesity management program is a very effective way to manage obesity for obese primary school children.
