In this study, impact behavior of aluminium and glass-fiber structure is studied under low impact velocity. Compression test is carried out to investigate the compressive strength of the specimens. The degree of damage is observed using microscopy and compared with the experimental analysis data. The maximum load capacity, impact strength and elastic energy of glass-fiber honeycomb sandwich panel are more than the aluminium honeycomb sandwich panel.
This paper decided the 3D shape of sandwich composite for the cradle of CT instrument, suggested the stacking sequence with satisfaction on structural criteria using the Finite Element Analysis, and introduced the manufacturing method to meet the X-ray transmission performance uniformly. The design of Cradle was considered the space between other parts, fixing method, and assembly condition with headrest part. It is decided the stacking sequence to meet the criteria that the deflection at the end point is less than 20 mm when it is applied to 135 kg load at the specific locations. In site of manufacturing method, at first, it is used the hand lay-up for carbon UD and carbon fabric/polyester resin, but it had the ununiform X-ray transmission performance due to the void and excess resin. For solving this problem, it was replaced with the infusion method for the first layer of face material and the application of carbon UD or fabric/epoxy resin prepreg for other layers. Therefor, the property of X-ray transmission was improved.
A sandwich panel is a composite material composed of a double-sided noncombustible material and insulation core which is used in the inner, outer walls, and roof structure of a building. Despite its excellent insulation performance, light weight and excellent constructability, a flame is brought into the inside of the panel through the joint between the panels, melting the core easily and causing casualties and property damage due to the rapid spread of flame. The current Building Law provides that the combustion performance of finishing materials for buildings should be determined using a fire test on a small amount of specimen and only a product that passes the stipulated performance standard should be used. This law also provides that in the case of finishing materials used for the outer walls of buildings, only materials that secured noncombustible or quasi-noncombustible performance should be used or flame spread prevention (FSP) should be installed. The purpose of this study was to confirm the difference between the dangers of horizontal and vertical fire spread by applying FSP, which is applied to finishing materials used for the outer walls of buildings limitedly to a sandwich panel building. Therefore, the combustion behavior and effects on the sandwich panel according to the application of FSP were measured through the construction to block the spread of flame between the panels using a full scale fire according to the test method specified in ISO 13784-1 and a metallic structure. The construction of FSP on the joint between the panels delayed the spread of flame inside the panels and the flash over time was also delayed, indicating that it could become an important factor for securing the fire safety of a building constructed using complex materials.

Recently, many researches are carried for high-speed and light craft. In this study, the optimum structural design procedure and the computer program are developed to minimize the hull weight of SES(Surface Effect Ship) built of composite materials. Three types of composite materials-Sandwich, Single Skin and Hybrid type- are considered and the efficiency of each type is investigated. In design process, the optimum design of main members is performed at first considering longitudinal strength. And then, the transverse member design is performed considering torsional strength SSDP(Structural Synthesis Design program) of U.S. Navy is adopted for design algorithm and DnV classification nile for design loads and strength criteria. For optimum structural design, ES 1+1 optimization technique is used.

Carbon nanotubes reinforced copper matrix laminated nanocomposites were developed and the mechanical properties were evaluated by using micro-tensile testing system. Sandwich-type laminated structure constituted with carbon nanotube layers as a reinforcement and electroplated copper matrix were fabricated by a new processing approach based on selective dip-coating of carbon nanotubes. The mechanical properties of nanocomposites were improved due to an enhanced load sharing capacity of carbon nanotubes homogeneously distributed within the in-plane direction, as well as a bridging effect of carbon nanotubes along the out-of-plane direction between the upper and lower matrices. The universality of the layering approach is applicable to a wide range of functional materials, and here we demonstrate its potential use in reinforcing composite materials.
This study aims to investigate the residual strength of sandwich composites with Al honeycomb core and carbon fiber face sheets after the quasi-static indentation damage by the experimental investigation. The 3-point bending test and the edge-wise compressive strength test were used to find the mechanical properties, and the quasi-static point load was applied to introduce the simulated damage on the specimen. The damaged specimens were finally assessed by the 3-point bending test and the compressive strength test. The investigation results revealed the residual strength of the damaged specimens due to the quasi-static indentation. The both test results showed that the residual strength of the damaged specimen was decreased according to increases of the damaged depth.

The main objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the effect of adhesive thickness and environmental conditions on the failure and strength of sandwich-to-laminate bonded joints. Three different adhesive thicknesses (t=0.2, 2 and 4 mm) and two different environmental conditions were considered. Environmental conditions include the RTD(room temperature and dry condition) and ETW(elevated temperature and wet condition). Test results show as the adhesive thickness increases from 0.2 mm to 2 and 4 mm, the joint strength decreases 16 and 30%, respectively. Regarding the effect of environmental conditions, except for one case, the joint strength in the ETW conditions turned out to be 12% higher than those in the RTD conditions. In the joints with adhesive thickness of 0.2 mm, remarkable difference from RTD condition was not found.

Low-velocity impact on composite sandwich panel has been investigated. For the study, a finite element program is coded using 18-node assumed strain solid element and Newmark-beta method. Contact force is calculated from a proposed modified contact low. The finite element code is verified by solving typical example. The calculated impact behavior agreed well with experimental result.

This paper was about experimental test properties by mechnical joint of CF1263/Epoxy Al honeycomb panels. In case of mechanical joint using screw, nut shall be secured over than minimize third screw pitch. In case of insert backsheet for increase of joint force, increase weight for assemble by screw pitch. In case of insert backsheet with CF1263/Epoxy, predominant save weight and minimazer of displacement by tensile weight moreover predominant strength. In case of mechanical joint by rivet, rivet of Monobolt has over-hole in hole of CF1263/Epoxy but rivet of PROTRUDING has predominant of mechanical joint.

The absorption and the interference shielding of the electromagnetic wave problem have been a very important issue for commercial and military purposes. This study dealt with the simulation reflection loss for electromagnetic absorbing sandwich type structures in X-band(8.2Ghz~12.4GHz). Glass/epoxy composites containing conductive carbon blacks were used for the face sheets and styrofoams were used for the core. Their permittivities in X-band were measured using the transmission line technique. Simulation results of 3-1ayered sandwich type structures showed the reflection loss using the theory about transmission and reflection in a multi-layered medium.
