A Study on the Semiotic Discourse of Color Expression in Impressionism Paintings -Focus on Works of Impressionism - (인상주의 회화에서 색채 표현의 기호적 담론 연구 -인상주의 작품 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • We recognize all objects by seeing. However, we are not sure that the things we see through our eyes are their essence. Here comes my question: What does it mean that humans see and recognize things? The things we see are images and so I consider recognizing an object as semiosis via our visual sensation and brain. That is because objects are defined not by their essence but as symbols we recognize. In the era of post-modernism art is a voluntary creative activity that creates a kind of spiritual value and plays an important role for appreciators who realize the fact to enjoy the life value. This paper focused on the art putting aesthetic value on humans' recognition and explored works of art in a visually perceptible way through semiosis. That is because art, an act of creating things, is symbolic and closely linked to semiotic system. Furthermore, derivative visual signs can be considered to be in line with the viewers' visual perception. If we interpreted by recognizing the works of art along with symbol, we can enjoy the works in depth through recognizing their color or shape. Therefore, I intended to discourse on color perception focusing on colors in order to analyze the relationship between art and symbol in the process of recognizing works of art. This paper looked into background of color recognition, status of colors and ways of expression for impressionist who painted with various colors and examined colors as a sensory language. In the process of interpreting art works by communication between the artist and viewers, the role of color is considered as visual symbol through the artist's experience, consciousness, emotions, and their senses. It can be interpreted the visual language through signification of the symbols when the colors are formed in works of art as a recognizable space. Therefore we expect to study in the Visual arts to be the colors symbolic analysis is extended to more effective communication tool.

HRV analysis Under Color Environment (생체 환경에서의 HRV 분석)

  • 본 연구는 색채환경이 정상인의 심전도에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 분석하여 색채 환경이 인체에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 피험자는 색맹을 가지고 있지 않고 인지기능에 장애가 없는 정상 성인 남, 여 50명을 대상으로 하였다. 색채환경의 제시는 암실에서 백색 광원에 채색 필터를 사용하여 제시하였다. 피검자는 6가지 색채 환경 안에서 심전도를 측정하였으며, HRV 분석을 하였다. HF/LF의 비를 비교 분석하여 본 결과, 남자는 녹색에서 색채 자극전보다 자극후가 HF/LF의 비가 0.508(p<0.07) 상승한 것을 볼 수 있었으며, 여자는 파랑색에서 색채자극전보다 자극후 HF/LF의 비가 0.677상승한 것을 볼 수 있었다. 이는 남자는 녹색에서 여자는 파랑색에서 더욱 편안함과 안락감을 느끼게 된다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 본연구의 결과는 색채 환경이 인체에 미치는 영향을 규명함으로써 좀 더 편안한 색채 환경의 설계에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

A study on colour appearance by the size of colour stimulation at foveal vision (중심와 시각에서 색채 자극의 크기에 따른 컬러 어피어런스 연구)

  • Next generation displays show a trend of evolving from the display device environment (represented by existing televisions) to the mobile environment. The mobile display corresponding to the personal display is similar to a home theatre; however, they are advantageous because they are small and have a relatively lower weight. Therefore, the display industry has an interest in diverse product applications of displays, reproducing more accurate colours, and offering improved image quality from display devices of various sizes. To address these interests, a psychophysical experiment was conducted in this research. The experiment compared the size of the colour stimulation corresponding to foveal vision by gradually increasing the lightness of the background. This was based on the assumption of possible differences in colours being recognized by the lightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulation. Contrary to the results of previous studies, where the colours are identified more clearly as the size of the colour stimulation increases (assuming that the lightness of the background is not considered) here the results of the experiment showed that the attributes of the identified colours were different depending on the lightness of the background and the size of the colour stimulation. Based on the experimental results, it is possible to resolve errors in colour conversion that can occur when the input image is switched from a large screen size to a mobile size display, and to reproduce the colours more accurately and improve the image quality.

A Measurement System for Color Environment-based Human Body Reaction (색채 환경 기반의 인체 반응 정보 측정 시스템)

  • The result of analyzing the cognitive reaction due to the color environment has been applied to various filed especially in medical field. Moreover, the study about the identification of patient's condition and examination the brain activity by collecting the bio-signal based on the color environment is being actively conducted. Even though, there were a variety of experiments by convention the color environment using a light or LED color, it still has a problem that affects the psychological information. Therefore, our proposed system using a HMD (Head Mounting display) to provide a completed color environment condition. This system uses the BMS(Biomedical System) to collect the biometric information which responds to the specific color condition and the human body response information can be measured by the development the Memory and Attention test on Mobile phone. The collection of Biometric information includes electro cardiogram(ECG), respiration, oxygen saturation (Sp02), Bio-impedance, blood pressure will store in the database. In addition, we can verify the result of the human body reaction in the color environment by Memory and Attention application. By utilizing the reaction of the human body information that is collected thought the proposed system, we can analyze the correlation between the physiological information and the color environment. And we also expect that this system can apply to the medical diagnosis and treatment. For future work, we will expand the system for prediction and treatment of Alzheimer disease by analyzing the visualization data through the proposed system. We will also do evaluation on the effectiveness of the system for using in the rehabilitation program.

The Effect on the Biosignal by the Color Stimulation (색채 자극이 생리 신호에 미치는 영향)

  • 색채 자극은 인간의 감성에 영향을 주며 또한 색채의 생리적인 작용을 응용하는 연구들이 보고되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 색채 자극이 정상인의 생리신호에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 정량적으로 측정해 보고자 하였다. 피검자는 정상인 성인 남,여 각 50명을 실시하였다. 색채 환경의 제시는 암실에서 백색광원에 채색 필터를 사용하여 제시하였다. EEG는 푸른색과 녹색에서 알파파가 상승하였으며, 베타파는 상대적으로 감소하였다. 심전도의 HRV분석에서는 남자는 녹색에서 부교감 신경계가 가장 활성화 되었으며, 여자는 파랑색에서 부교감신경계가 활성화 된 걸 볼 수 있었다. COP 측정에서는 녹색에서 누적거리가 가장 적은 것으로 나타났으나 통계적 유의성은 나타나지 않았다. 본 실험을 통해 색채 환경이 생리적 신호에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 임상적 응용을 위해서는 더 많은 피검자와 인지기능에 장애가 있는 환자를 대상으로 계속적인 연구가 필요한 것으로 사료된다.

Visual characteristics of brightness according to display saturation for conciseness and clarity (간결함과 명료함을 위한 디스플레이 채도에 따른 밝기의 시각적 특성 연구)

  • Colours are primarily composed of three properties - hue, brightness, and saturation, However, each property of colour is not independently visually recognised. Previous studies on saturation and brightness found that brightness was sensed differently depending on the degree of purity of the saturation; however, most of the psychophysical experiments used subtractive mixing. Therefore, fundamental research on colour perception based on display is needed. In this study, we conducted a psychophysical experiment and to investigate the visual characteristics of saturation and brightness based on a display with a self-luminous system. After selecting a certain brightness in the additive-mixed display, the experiment was conducted by adjusting the saturation of the main colours. Thus, by analysing the experimental results, we determined whether the results were the same as ones from subtractive mixing and whether the data are meaningful for the characteristics of colour perception. We also suggested future research directions.

  • 식품의 맛은 미각, 후각, 시각, 청각, 촉각에서 느낀 여러 가지 인상과 개인의 경험이나 기호가 복합적으로 적용되어 인식된다. 특히 맛을 결정하는 영향 요인 중에서 시각을 통해 인지하는 색은 실제 맛을 지각하기 전에 맛에 대한 이미지를 연상시킴으로써, 식품 선택에 결정적인 영향을 준다. 따라서 식품색을 적용함에 있어 식품 자체의 맛 이미지를 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 색을 활용함으로써, 소비자들이 좀더 관능적으로 선호할 수 있는 식품을 개발할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 소비자들이 특정 식품을 선택하여 구매하고자 할 때 인지하게 되는 맛 이미지를 효과적으로 전달하기 위한 도구로서 색채를 사용하기 위해 사례연구를 진행하였다. 사례연구는 초콜릿색에서 연상되는 맛에 관한 웹 설문을 통해 진행되었다. 설문 결과를 바탕으로 식품색에서 연상하게 되는 맛에 영향을 주는 요인을 추출하고, 초콜릿 맛의 종류와 느낌의 정도에 따른 주요 색채의 경향성을 도출함으로써 시각을 이용하여 보다 정확하게 초콜릿 맛의 공감각적 특성을 전달하기 위한 기초자료를 제안하였다.

A study of color spaces for Korean basic color names (한국인의 기본 색이름에 대응하는 색상에 관한 연구)

  • The number of basic color names and the corresponding hues used in Korea were investigated. First, we did a field study about the color terms in Korean. Our results identify the color term inventory in Korean and permit a further test of Berlin and Kay's(1969) theory of color universals. Second, 36 subjets performed a color matching task. The matching task allows the referents and the best examplars of each color names to be determined. The hue area and the central hue corresponding to the basic color names were represented in the two dimensional color space. This study provides not only basic materials of Korean color term to psychology and linguistics but also bases for further study to the internal structure of Korean color categories.

Color Sensibility Image of Naturally Dyed Silk Fabric (천연염색 견직물의 색채감성 이미지)

  • This study was aimed to consider the influence of hue-tone, dyes, and mordants of naturally dyed silk fabric on color sensibility image factors and to establish color sensibility image scales of naturally dyed silk fabric by color and image descriptors. By single or sequential dyeing with various natural dyes commercially available in domestic and foreign market on the same silk fabric, a total of 66 colored fabric stimuli were prepared and they were used to evaluate subjective color sensibility image by 40 participants. As results, four different color sensibility image factors for naturally dyed silk fabric, 'delight', 'natural', 'modern' and 'attractive' were extracted. All of factors were significantly influenced by hue-tone, dyes, and mordants. Furthermore, by using color sensibility image adjectives and colors, multidimensional image scales were established, which leads to the conclusions that the results of this study help to design color sensibility-oriented naturally dyed fabric and apparel products.

  • 사람들의 다양한 심리적인 질병으로서 분노나 스트레스, 불안, 초조, 긴장, 우울 등이 있다. 이런 심리적인 문제를 안정시키기 위해서 다양한 치료방법이 존재한다. 사람의 마음은 뇌의 영향을 받는데 마음은 의식과 무의식으로 나뉜다. 성격의 대부분을 형성하는 무의식이 마음의 대부분을 차지하지만 이는 아주 어렸을 때 형성되기 때문에 인지가 어렵다. 색채 치료에서 색채는 주관적인 심리가 강하기 때문에 개개인에 맞춰 좋아하는 색이나 안정이 되는 색을 봄으로서 심리를 안정시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 색채를 통하여 마음이 안정할 수 있도록 하는 시스템을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
