  • The purpose of this research is to develop a facile measurement system for colorimetric analysis for zinc powder and size analyzer for zeolite particles in order to reduce the process time for their characteristic analysis. We present facile smartphone-based analysis methods to measure and estimate the size of zinc power by using colorimeteric method and the size of zeolite particles by using ImageJ program which is an open-source program. The results show a possibility of our methods to replace the previous professional analysis processes with them.

  • 대한민국 대표 축제로 자리 잡은 보령머드축제의 핵심 프로그램인 머드 셀프마사지 행사의 재미와 다양성을 부여하기 위하여, 색상이 함유된 머드에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 머드 고유의 낮은 명도를 조절하고자 이산화티탄을 첨가하여 머드의 질감을 유지하면서 색상이 발현되는 이산화티탄의 함량을 실험하고, 결정된 혼합비율에 황색산화철을 첨가하여 색상의 발현도를 색차계, 육안검사, 사용감 등으로 판단하였다. 결정된 색상은 물에 젖음 시 발색정도와 세척상태를 검토하여 보령머드 축제 프로그램인 머드 셀프마사지 행사에 사용하여 축제의 다양성을 높이고 또한 한국의 고유색인 오방색을 나타낼 수 있는 유색머드를 개발하고자 하였다.

  • 금속의 양극산화 공정(anodizing)은 전해질 내 금속에 인위적으로 전위를 가해 금속 표면에 얇은 산화막(oxide layer)을 형성하여 금속의 내식성, 내마모성을 증가시키는 공정이다. 타이타늄은 가볍고 단단하여 산업분야에 유용하게 사용되며 이와 같은 양극산화 공정을 통해 내식성, 내마모성을 크게 높일 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 항공기 부품용 타이타늄의 최적 양극산화 조건을 찾기 위해 전압의 파형, 전해액의 조성에 따라 양극산화 실험을 진행하였다. SEM, AFM, EDS, 분광측색계, 색채색차계 등을 이용하여 각 조건에 해당하는 타이타늄의 산화막($Tio_2$)의 두께, crack 형태, pore 형태, 균일도, 표면 조도, 내전압, 색 수치를 분석하였다. 그 결과 전압 DC 140 V, 주성분이 KOH $Na_3PO_4{\cdot}12H_2O$인 전해액으로 이루어진 양극산화 조건에서 가장 균일하고 색 재현성이 우수한 타이타늄의 산화막($Tio_2$)을 형성하였다.

THE COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE COLOR OF THE DECIDUOUS TEETH AND RESTORATIVE MATERIALS (유치의 치아색과 수복재의 색조선택에 관한 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the color of natural deciduous teeth in Korean children and to compare with that of composite resin specimens. The subjects were 148 children (80 boys and 68 girls) with good general condition and normal teeth color, aged between 3 and 6 years. The color of middle third of maxillary central incisor in deciduous teeth was examined with shade guide and then measured by means of the colorimeter CV300 which can be measured by CIELAB system. The data were analyzed statistically by SPSS program. The results were summerized as follows; 1. Over 90% of the color for the deciduous anterior teeth was in A1, A2, B1, B2 and P shade. 2. The means of deciduous teeth color were $L^*=58.72,\;a^*=-1.18,\;b^*=-0.63$ by colorimeter CV300. 3. $L^*,\;a^*\;and\;b^*$ prices for A1, A2, B1, B2, P were $L^*=52.52,\;a^*=-1.90,\;b^*=1.18$ in A1 specimen, $L^*=54.90,\;a^*=-1.87,\;b^*=1.60$ in A2 specimen, $L^*=59.80,\;a^*=-2.70,\;b^*=-0.63$ in B1 specimen, $L^*=56.90,\;a^*=-1.70,\;b^*=1.63$ in B2 specimen, $L^*=52.93,\;a^*=-2.33,\;b^*=1.10$ in P specimen. The means of B1 color specimen were most similar to those of deciduous teeth color. The A1 color values were similar to the P color values. 4. The standard deviation of $L^*,\;a^*$ was small among colors, but that of $b^*$, in the yellowish color, was large.

A Study on Physicochemical Properties and Components of Bamboo oil from Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis by refining process (정제과정에 따른 대나무기름의 물리화학적 특성 및 성분에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the physicochemical properties and component values of bamboo oil from Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis obtained by refining process. The tar concentration in the refined bamboo oil (RBO) was decreased to about 78% compared to crude Bamboo oil (CBO). The chromaticities of light, red, and yellow in RBO were 92.4 and 3.0, respectively. This result indicates that the chromaticity of light was increased with the decrease in the tar concentration in the Bamboo oil. The total concentrations of organic acid and phenolics compound in RBO were decreased to about 63% and 80%, respectively. The total concentration of free sugars was decreased to about 78% in RBO and the concentration of free sugar was in the order of lactose, fructose, and glucose. The palmitoleic acid and stearic acid concentrations were higher than that of other fatty acids. The concentration of total organic acid was decreased to about 88% through RBO. Among the various organic acids, the formic acid concentration was highest in the RBO. The minerals concentrations in the CBO were in the order of Ca, K, Na, and Fe. On the other hand, in the case of RBO, it was in the order of Ca, Fe, K, and Na.

Relationship between Soil Color Characteristics and Measurement Values by Colorimeter (토양의 색 특성과 색차계 측정치의 상호관계)

  • Soil color characteristics were measured by a optical instrument, colorimeter, comparing with the conventional Munsell color chart and related to the chemical properties of soils. Total of the 67 experimental soils were taken from tobacco fields that located at Cheongwon, Enmseong, Boeun, Goesan, Jincheon, and Chungju countries in Chungbuk Province having the 29 soil series including Samgag. The values of L, a, and b measured by colorimeter were closely related with hue, value, and chroma of Munsell color chart, respectively, indicating the quantitative measurement of soil color characteristics. The standard deviations in measurement for L, a, and b values was smaller in soil sample passed by 0.5 mm sieve than 2 mm sieve, suggesting that soil particle size less than 0.5 mm was better condition for colorimeter measurement. The values of L and b measured by colorimeter showed a tendency to decrease as increase of soil moisture content but nearly on difference with moisture condition for the value of a. However, correlation coefficient between air dry samples and wet soil samples(soil moisture retension of -10 hPa) for measurements of L, a and b value were more than 0.9 showing the same tendency in measurement. Consequently, air dry soil passed by 0.5 mm sieve was recommended to desirable conditions for stable measurement by colorimeter. The measured values by colorimeter were significantly correlated with organic matter, CEC, exchangeable Ca and Mg, showing the highest correlation coefficient between L value and organic matter.

Relationship Between Color Characteristic and Reflectance Index by Ground-based Remote Sensor for Tobacco Leaves (연초 엽의 색 특성과 원격탐사 반사율지표의 상호관계)

  • To determine the critical level for optimum maturity of flue-cured tobacco leaves (KF118) at the stalk position from cutter to tips, the reflectance index using ground-based remote sensors and chlorophyll meter were investigated. The sensors estimated were Crop $Circle^{TM}$ (Holland Scientific), Green $Seeker^{TM}$ (Ntech Industries), Spectroradiometer (LICOR, LI-1800), Chlorophyll meter (SPAD502, Minolta), and Field $Scout^{TM}$ Chlorophyll meter (CM-1000, Spectrum). The L, a, b values and greenness for flue-cured leaf were measured and estimated for correlation with sensor's measurement of harvested leaf. On a reflectance curve of 340nm~1100 nm, the reflectance peaks on 550nm and 675 nm for the harvested leaf were lowered as change from light green to darker green. Darker green leaf harvested produced darker flue-cured leaf. The reflectance at 675 nm for flue-cured leaf decreased as greenness increased in the harvested leaf. This result means that the red edge band of 675 nm wavelength is related to the absorbance of chlorophyll for photosynthesis. The greenness of flue-cured leaf showed significantly positive correlation with the entire reflectance indexes for harvested leaf while the L value by colorimeter showed negative correlation with greenness of cured leaf. The critical level for optimum maturity of harvested leaf were less than 22, 135, and 0.43 for SPAD reading, CM-1000 reading, and gNDVI by Crop $Circle^{TM}$, respectively. Consequently, ground-based remote sensing providing a non-destructive real-time assessment of plant greenness could be a useful tool in the selection of optimum maturity of flue-cured tobacco leaves in relation to high quality of flue-cured tobacco.

A Study on Color Difference Discrimination for PVC Deco-Film using Entry-Level Digital Device (보급형 디지털 장비를 이용한 Deco-Film용 PVC의 색차판별에 대한 연구)

  • Though digital imaging devices such as smart phones, digital cameras and office scanners have improved significantly over the past years, they are seldom used for industrial application. This may be attributable to high level of quality and performance requirement for industrial application, but there lacks a test or an objective evaluation whether the upgraded performance of entry-level device is sufficiently enough to replace existing industrial equipments or not. If there exists an industrial application area where the applicability of entry-level equipment is proved by some objective tests, then companies will be able to reduce investment on expensive industrial equipment. In this study, applicability of entry-level digital devices for color difference discrimination of PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) color sheet is tested. By testing smart phone, digital camera, and office scanner for color difference discrimination, authors have found that office scanner shows consistent result with less measurement error. Additional experiment on comparing office scanner with industrial spectrophotometer has confirmed that there exists high correlation between the two devices' results. Based on this result, office scanner may be applicable to discriminate the color difference of PVC sheet instead of expensive industrial spectrophotometer if proper management criteria are established.

Evaluation of illumination effect for on-board spectrometer system (내장형 분광광도시스템 구성에 따른 조명 영향 평가)

  • On-board spectrophotometer has been widely used as a non-contact and non-destructive measurement system in many fields. In this study, we evaluated the effect with respect to the light of on-board spectrophotometer based on a comparison with the standard spectrophotometer and color information coordinate system. Red, yellow, green and blue color paper, which were the standard reflective color paper and Munsell color paper, were used for experiments. In order to compare between a standard spectrophotometer system and an on-board spectrophotometer system, each color paper was measured 20 times. We concluded that it is possible to develop a system regardless the effect of light if the light was supplied consistently and a calibration was performed exactly while we applied an on-board spectrophotometer to non-contact and non-destructive measurement system.
