  • We will analyze how color is used creatively in essential work, Red Deser, directed by Michelangelo Antoioni, one of the most unique film director in film history. in Red Desert, Antonioni especially tried to focus on the use of color to develop the narrative. Therefore, through the analysis of the Red Desert, this paper will endeavor to support the perspective that the role of color is not only a mere backdrop but has the primary funtion of storytelling in this film.

  • According to former studies, people can imagine the specific taste by the specific color, not every color. Besides, studies also say that the relation between colors and tastes is decided by personal experience and frequency about the color of food. So the authors supposed that there is the specific color related the taste. To find the relation, we selected 24 colors and 24 taste adjectives mainly used by people. Then, we examined taste imagined on color with questionnaires of 20 college students who are sensitive to colors and able to use all 24 taste adjectives. Then we analyzed the result by MDS. Finally we could find 5 definite relations between colors and tastes. The result suggested that the number of colors which can be associated with tastes are quite limited. Also, only limited colors can be associated with tastes and it is different by sex. This study shows not only the relation between the color and the taste but also how closely the taste is related to other colors. This study can be used for effective food package design, advertising and so on.

  • The final aim of the present study is to build a system of converting a color image into musical elements based on a synesthetic perception, emulating human synesthetic skills, which make it possible to associate a color image with a specific sound. This can be done on the basis of the similarities between physical frequency information of both light and sound. As a first step, an input true color image is converted into hue, saturation, and intensity domains based on a color model conversion theory. In the next step, musical elements including note, octave, loudness, and duration are extracted from each domain of the HSI color model. A fundamental frequency (F0) is then extracted from both hue and intensity histograms. The loudness and duration are extracted from both intensity and saturation histograms, respectively. In experiments, the proposed system on the conversion of a color image into musical elements was implemented using standard C and Microsoft Visual C++(ver. 6.0). Through the proposed system, the extracted musical elements were synthesized to finally generate a sound source in a WAV file format. The simulation results revealed that the musical elements, which were extracted from an input RGB color image, reflected in its output sound signals.

  • Credit cards are becoming an important marketing tool that reveals brand identity beyond payment methods. The purpose of this study is to suggest an effective design strategy plan by analyzing credit card design case that provided a positive brand experience among the cases of implementing the brand identity of a domestic credit card. The design of a representative credit card brand in Korea was analyzed according to Schmidt's experience type. As a result of analysis, when designing a credit card, it maximizes the visual effect with colors suitable for each theme, presents a multi-faceted experience that stimulates the five senses of the consumer, and provides an active brand experience that can reminisce the benefits of a credit card. It was found to be effective in revealing the brand identity. This study is meaningful in that local credit card companies offer design directions that can positively imprint brands on consumers through credit card designs.

  • At the global times, each country is developing various designs, symbolizing its m country's original images. So significant and continual developments must be made in the aspect of the national identity and image promotion as well as for producing added value by commercializing the designs in the manner of discriminating against other cultures. What is the image which represents Korea\ulcorner Though there are many images, such as the national flag of Korea, a rose of Sharon, the Korean national anthem, Kimchi, Korean clothes, in this research I select "Taeguek" patterns in order not only to be able to associate the Korean national flag but to have a strong odor tone and aesthetic factors. The "Taeguek" patterns, Which stands for harmony and prosperity, have been used in the Korean buildings and in the small tolls for practical lives of Korean people from the old times. Recently we are asked to develop a variety of cultural assets for lots of international event held these days. So this research is trying to apply the patterns of "Taeguek" to our reality, the division of the Korean peninsular. In the doctrine of the five natural elements, although Um and Yang are incompatible, they can be combined and then lead to a mutual harmony by accomplishing a good balance. Just in the same way, the South and North, which seem incompatible by appearance, can live together and eventually be united. By implanting that meaning into the patterns of "Taeguek", the postcards can make the meaning of unification visually dear and can assist to speed up the unification of south and North and to show our hope to the world.North and to show our hope to the world.

  • In the early twentieth century, history of animation began by modern artists, they produced various experimental images with the newly invented film and cameras. Artists in the field of movie, photography, paintings and others manipulated images in motion. But as some animated movies won industrial success and popularity, they became the trend but experimental style of early animation preserved by so-called non-mainstreamers or experimental animators, counteracting commercialism. Disney animation also followed the trend by applying realistic Hollywood film style, the worse critics placed a low value on the animation and it tarnished the image, although it was profitable investment from a business standpoint. To make images realistic, they opened a drawing class that animators developed skills to imitate motions and forms from subjects in real life. Also some techniques and gizmos were used to mimic and simulate three dimensional objects and spaces, multiplane camera and compositing 3D CG images with 2D drawings. Moreover, they brought animation stories from fairly tales or folk tales, and Walt's personal interest in live-action movies, they applied Hollywood-film-like narratives and realistic visual, and harsh criticism ensued. On the surface early disney animations' potential seems to be weakened, but in reality it still exists by simplifying and exaggerating forms and color as modern arts. Disney animation employs concepts of the modernism paintings such as simplified shapes and colors to a character design, when their characters are placed together in a scene, that visual elements cause mental reaction. This modification gives a new internal experience to audiences. As conceptual colors in abstract paintings make images appeared to be flat, coloring characters with no shading make them look flat and comparing to them, background images are also appeared to be flat. On top of that, multi-perspective at background images recalls modernist paintings. This essay goes in details with the animation pioneers' works and how Disney animation developed its techniques to emulate real life and analyses color schemes, forms, and spaces in Disney animation compared with modern artists' works, in that the visual language of Disney animation reminds of impression from abstract paintings in the beginning of the twentieth centuries.
