Hollow fiber membranes were prepared via thermally-induced phase separation process followed by stretching process from isotactic polypropylene and soybean oil system. Various operating parameters were examined in terms of their effects on the structure variation and performances of the membrane, and were optimized. Melt viscosity of the melt sample had influence on the formation of the microfibrils, and addition of nucleating agent increased the nucleation density to enhance the interspherulitic pore formation by stretching. Annealing the membrane at its stretched state relaxed the stress induced by stretching and helped the membrane maintain the stretched structure without shrinking. Solid-liquid Phase separation is more prevalent when the nucleating agent was added, and coagulation bath temperature determined the nucleation density, which affected the pore formation by stretching. In the absence of nucleating agent, nucleation was not effective and liquid-liquid phase separation governed the structure formation, which showed the opposite trend to that of the case with nucleating agent.
In this study, simulation works for a carbon dioxide capture process using solvent absorption method have been performed for decrease of regeneration energy in applying phase transition of liquid solvent. When carbon dioxide is dissolved in 30 wt% MEA solvent, liquid mixture divided into two phase according to mole loading of dissolved carbon dioxide. Using this phenomenon, we can decrease regeneration energy about 61% than primary absorber column-stripper column process.

균일한 용액이 비용매의 첨가로 인해서 열역학적으로 불안정해지면 용액은 다른 조성을 가진 2개의 액상으로 분리되어서 $\Delta Gm$을 낮추게 된다. Liquid-liquid phase separation에는 nucleation and growth와 spinodal decomposition의 2가지 경로가 있다.

Lithium secondary batteries using lithium metal count electrode are easy to use and to analyze the specific characteristics of working electrode. Nevertheless, during the charge operation internal electrical short circuit could be caused by the dendritic growth of lithium. The cell failure by the short circuit depends on the condition of separator such as constitutive material and thickness. To prevent the cell failure caused by the dendritic growth of lithium, the electrochemical properties of the cell of lithium metal count electrode were evaluated for four different kinds of separator. Among the tested separators, GMF (glass micro-fiber filter, $300{\mu}m$) was the most promising one because it could effectively prevent the cell failure during the charge. The cell using GMF separator had relatively low impedance. Generally the cell using thicker separator than $50{\mu}m$ could effectively avoid the cell failure by internal short circuit and had the good cycleability. The highest rate capability by the signature method was acquired in the case of GMF separator.
The biologically active peptides in human blood can adjust the functions of many physiological systems. The peptides in human blood were separated on the five steps of linear gradient-elution mode by RP-HPLC with UV detection. The size of commercially available $C_{18}$ chromatographic column was 4.60$\times$150 mm with particle size of 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and pore size of 100 $\AA$. The mobile phases used were water in 0.75% trifluoroacetic acids (TFA) and organic modifier of acetonitrile. The isolation methods suggested in this work for peptides from the blood were composed of the formation of immiscible liquid layers and precipitation by centrifuge and chemicals of sodium citrate and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The some peptides were identified based on the retention times previously constructed database.

In this work, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) was added into diethylenetriamine (DETA) aqueous solution for high $CO_2$ loading via phase splitting of absorbents during $CO_2$ absorption. Immiscible two phases were formed in the range of more than 30 wt% of NMP in 2 M DETA + NMP + water absorbents because of low solubility of DETA-carbamate in NMP solution. As the composition of NMP in the absorbents increased, the difference of $CO_2$ loading between each phase increased and the volume of bottom phase decreased. In $CO_2$ absorption in packed column by 2 M DETA + NMP + water absorbents, the absorption rate decreased in the range of more than 40 wt% of NMP. It is due to the increasing of mass transfer resistance in liquid film of absorbents at the high concentration of NMP. DETA + NMP + water absorbent is expected as the promising one for reducing the regeneration energy of absorbents according to volume reduction of $CO_2-rich$ phase.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performances of the ASBR under critical conditions of solid-liquid separation, caused by extremely high solids concentration, for wider application of the ASBR to various wastes. The ASBRs and completely-mixed daily-fed control runs were operated using a municipal mixed sludge at 35$^{\circ}C$ and 55$^{\circ}C$. Conversion of completely-mixed daily-fed reactor to sequencing batch mode and changes in HRT of all ASBRs were easily achieved without adverse effect, regardless of digestion temperature. Solids accumulation was remarkable in the ASBRs, and directly affected by settleable solids concentration of the feed sludge. Noticeable difference in solids-liquid separation was that flotation thickening occurred in the mesophilic ASBRs, while gravity thickening was a predominant solid-liquid separation process in the thermophilic ASBRS. Solids profiles at the end of thickening step dramatically changed at solid-liquid interface, and slight difference in solids concentrations was observed within thickened sludge bed. Organics removals based on subnatant or supernatant after thickening always exceeded 80% in all reactors. Thickened sludge volume and gas production of the ASBRs affected mutually. Gas production increased as thickened sludge accumulated, and continuous gas evolution during thickening could cause thickened sludge to expand or resuspend. Thickened sludge volume exceeding a predetermined withdrawal level resulted in loss of organic solids as well as biomass during withdrawal step, leading to decrease in gas production ind SRT. Such an adverse mutual effect was significant in gravity thickening, while it was not sensitive in flotation thickening. Changes in organic loading had no significant effect on organic removals and gas production after build-up of solids in the ASBRs.
Separation of optical isomers of DNS derivatized amino acids by a reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography has been studied by adding a complex of an optically active amino acid (L-arginine) with the metal ion (Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Ni(II)) to the mobile phase. The separations are affected by the concentrations of acetonitrile, chelate and buffer. They are also affected by the pH and the kinds of metal and buffer. A separation mechanism, which is based on steric effect of the ligand exchange reaction for the formation of ternary complexes by the D,L-DNS-amino acids and the chiral additive associated with the stationary phase, is proposed to interpret the elution behaviors of D, L-dansyl-amino acids.
