  • This study develops a technique training program to enhance the completion of Kolman, the high air flight technique, and applies it to two national athletes of the horizontal bar, one of the gymnastic events, for eight weeks. After that, their improvement was measured through 3D motion analysis to help them elevate their performance. The training program includes swing, hand release, twist, and bar hold, and its implementation produced the results stated below. They were made to practice the motion in the following way. After the hand-standing of giant swing which initiates the motion, they lift their body upward a little bit more. Next, they take their body down almost like a vertical descent and make a deep tap swing. Instead of doing the tap swing which widens the flection of hip and shoulder joints, while body revolution is more emphasized in particular, they release the bar as raising the centroid of their body sufficiently. During the flight, they try to narrow every joint in their body. As a result, the bar's elasticity becomes greatly increased, and since the backing rate of their body gets higher, the centripetal force of the swing is improved that they can release the bar in the higher position. In addition, because they can erect their body faster during the flight, they can perform comfortable twist and revolution in the air. They can also adjust the direction of the flight easily without too much concern for the proper timing of hand release as they rise. Thereby, they can not only maintain adequate distance from the bar for the bar hold but also ensure enough distance for body revolution and twist.

  • This study aimed to investigate the penetration characteristics of a segmented penetrator with normal and inclined angles. The length to diameter ratio (L/D) of the segmented penetrator was varied as 1.0, 0.5, and 0.25. Moreover, impact velocities of 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 km/s and inclination angles of $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ were successively applied. The AUTODYN-3D code was used to simulate the penetration performance of the segmented penetrator. The results show that the penetration performance of the segmented penetrator with steel plates was obviously higher than that of the corresponding continuous penetrator with steel plates. The outstanding penetration performance of the segmented penetrator can be observed when the impact velocity was 2.0 km/s and L/D = 1. In this case, the penetration performance of the segmented penetrator was 7% higher than that of the corresponding continuous penetrator. This trend was attributable to the interaction between the reactive plate and the projectile. The extent of the interaction relies on the relative velocities of the plate and projectiles, inclination angle, and number of segmented penetrators. It was proven that the penetration performance of the segmented penetrator can be improved by increasing the impact velocity, number of segmented penetrators between segments, and penetrator length.

  • The characteristics of shear zone in granular soils largely affect the stability of geo-structures. The goal of this study is to evaluate shear zone in a direct shear test using shear wave, electrical resistivity, and cone tip resistance. Bender elements and electrical resistivity probe are embedded into the wall of a direct shear box made of transparent acrylic material to estimate the shear wave velocities and the electrical resistivity at shear and non-shear zones. At the point of peak and residual strength, micro cone penetration test which can be available to measure tip resistance has been performed. Experimental results show that the shear wave velocities at upper shear zone increase during shearing while the values remain constant at bottom and lower shear zone. Also, resistivities at lower shear zone depend on relative density while resistivities at bottom remain constant. The results of cone penetration test demonstrate the correlation of the cone tip resistance and small strain shear modulus at shear zone. This study suggests that the application of the modified direct shear box including shear wave, electrical resistivity and the micro cone tip resistance may become effective tools for analyzing the characteristics of a shear zone.

  • This experimental study is aimed at evaluating the hydrodynamic performance of newly designed self-expandable graft stents under steady flow condition. Two graft stents with different coating materials and a bare TiNi metallic stent for comparison test were used in the experiment. Pressure variation and velocity distribution at the upstream and downstream of the stents were measured at flow rates of 5, 10, and 15 l/min, respectively. Pressure loss due to insertion of the stent increased with increasing flow rate exponentially as expected. At a flow rate of 15 l/min, pressure loss of Polyure-thane(PU)-coated graft stent was 6 times higher than that of TiNi metallic stent, while the pressure loss of a porous Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)-coated graft stent was comparable to a bare TiNi metallic stent. Velocity profiles of the porous PTFE-coated graft stent were similar to those of a bare TiNi metallic stent regardless of flow rate. Furthermore, the velocity profile of PU-coated graft stent revealed an asymmetrical and relatively low central velocity at a higher flow rate than 10 1/min, expecially, where the effects resulted in increases of wall shear stress and normal stress. The worse hydrodynamic behavior of PU-coated graft stent than the other two stents might be attributed to formation of folds due to poor flexibility of coated material when inserting the graft stent into the pipe with a more smaller size, which later gave rise non-symmetry of flow area, increase of surface roughness and jet flow via the crevice between the stent and cylinder wall.

  • To predict accurately the thermal hydraulic behavior of light water reactors during normal or abnormal operation, the accurate estimation of the void distribution is required. Up to date, many techniques for predicting void fraction of two-phase flow systems have been suggested. Among these techniques, the drift-flux model is widely used because of its exact calculation ability and simplicity. However, to get more accurate prediction of void fraction using drift-flux model, slip and flow regime effects must be considered more properly In the drift-flux method, these two effects are accounted for by two drift-flux parameters ; $C_{o}$ and (equation omitted). At earlier stage, $C_{o}$ is measured in a circular tube. In this study, $C_{o}$ is experimentally determined by measuring local void fraction and vapor velocity distribution in a rectangular subchannel having 4 heating rods which simulates nuclear subchannels. The measurements are peformed with two-electrical conductivity probes which are known to be adequate for measuring local parameters. The experiments are performed at low flow rate and the system pressure less than 3 atmo spheric pressure. In this experiment, (equation omitted), is not measured, but quoted from well-known empirical correlation to formulate $C_{o}$. Finally, $C_{o}$ is expressed as a function of channel averaged void fraction. fraction.

  • The regular RC structures have been transformed into irregular RC structures by alternate load of RC structures during explosive demolition. Numerical simulation programs have contributed to a better understanding of large displacement collapse behavior during explosive demolition, but there remain a number of problems which need to be solved. In this study, the 1/5 scaled 1, 3 and 5 stories RC structures were designed and fabricated. To consider the collapse possibility of upper dead load, fabricated RC structures were demolished by means of felling method. To observe the collapse behavior of the RC structures during felling, displacement of X-direction (or horizontal), displacement of Z-direction (or vertical) md relative displacement angle from respective RC structures were analyzed. Finally explosive demolition on the scaled RC structures using felling method are carried out, collapse behavior by felling method is affected by upper dead load of scaled RC structures. Displacement of X and Z direction increases gradually to respective 67ms and 300ms after blasting. It is confirmed that initial collapse velocity due to alternate load has a higher 3 stories RC structures than 5 stories.

  • This study was conducted to get basic information about making windbreak forest around Saemanguem reclaimed lands by analyzing the vegetation structure of 8 windbreak forests along the west coast of Korea and considering the methods of structural improvement. The total plants existing in the study areas were 25 families 40genus 43 species, and every tree layer consisted of only one tree species, Pinus thunbergii. There were 2 windbreak stands consisted of a species, and 2 consisted of multiple layer with a species. While, 4 windbreak stands consist of various species with several species. To make ecological system and functions of windbreak forests stabler, TL, STL and SL should be together in the vertical point, moreover, TL should be appeared at the in side and SL should be planted at the out side in the horizontal point. It is considered that mixed stand forest might be suitable for increasing the windbreak forest's functions and decreasing damage caused by disease and insects.

  • The effect of carbon fiber orientation on the tribological properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites used as a reflecting material for the electromagnetic wave has been investigated. It was found that the carbon fiber/epoxy composite which slides normal to prepreg lay-up direction had less friction and wear that those slides parallel to prepreg fiber lay-up direction due to the increase of delamination between carbon fiber and epoxy. Composite with unidirectional orientation($0/0^{\circ}$) had higher tribological properties than those with multidirectional orientation($0/45/90/-45^{\circ}$ and $0/90^{\circ}$) when the sliding direction was normal to prepreg lay-up direction. This was caused by the debonding between carbon fiber and epoxy which is proportional to contact area between the sliding surface and carbon fiber. Opposite results have been found when the sliding direction was parallel to prepreg lay-up direction due tot he tensile force applied on carbon fiber. In addition, it was shown that wear factor increased with increasing sliding velocity but the friction coefficient did not depend upon the sliding velocity.

  • Shear behavior obtained by direct shear tests is dependent on shear box and boundary condition. The objective of this study is to analyze problems of conventional direct shear test (type-A) and provide the reliable results by developing type-C direct shear apparatus. Experimental tests are carried out for Ulleung sand by using type-A and -C direct shear devices. The soil specimens, which are prepared at the relative density of 60%, and are applied to vertical confining stresses of 50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 kPa, are sheared at a constant shear strain rate of 0.5 mm/min. By comparing the results obtained by type-A and -C direct shear apparatus under constant normal load (CNL) condition, the performance of new one is verified. In addition, two constrained conditions including constant normal load (CNL) and constant pressure (CP) are applied to type-C one. Experimental results show that type-A direct shear apparatus has some problems such as rotating of loading plate and upper shear box, and the frictional forces between soil and inner wall of upper shear box. Thus, the shear strengths obtained by type-A device are overestimated or underestimated depending on shear box and boundary condition. On the other hand, type-C device produces clear and consistent test results regardless of constrained conditions. This study represents that type-C direct shear apparatus not only can solve the problems of type-A direct shear apparatus but provide the reliable results.
