  • This paper is aimed to analyze the determinants and their relative importance that affect regional competitiveness in the era of globalization and climate change. The panel model was set by a balanced panel data for 7 metropolitan areas & 9 provinces and for the period of 2001~2010. Gross regional income per capita is used as the dependent variable and competitiveness-based factors, economic production factors, and climate change adaptation factors are selected as the explanatory variables. In this study, Model 1(typical regional competitiveness model) and Model 2 (added adaptation to climate change adaptation factors) were compared. The important findings can be summarized as follows. The most influential determinants on regional competitiveness are the ratio of knowledge-based industries and human capital and energy inefficiencies decrease the regional competitiveness. Compared to Model 1, Model 2 showed that the effects of the regional openness and the technology innovation capital are relatively more influential in Model 2. The results of this empirical study provide policy implications to strengthen the regional competitiveness in the future of the era of globalization and climate change.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among mother's depression, parenting behavior of children's problem behavior. The subjects used in this study were 203 three to five-year-old children who attended kindergarten and deycare center in Seoul and Gyonggido. The research data were collected through the 'Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)', 'Maternal Behavior Research Instrument(MBRI)', 'K-CBCL'. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and Stepwise Multi-Regression. The results of this study indicate that there were significant positive correlations among children's problem behavior, mother's depression, rejective and control parenting behavior. And there were significant negative correlations among children's problem behavior, mother's affectionate and permissive parenting behavior. Also, the mother's depression was the predicted variable that has the most significant relative effect on children's problem behavior. Moreover, the results of this study indicate that rejective parenting behavior that is subordinate factor of parenting behavior was additional predictor of stress.

  • In this study, after estimating VCI (Vegation Condition Index), TCI (Thermal Condition Index) and VHI (Vegetation Health Index) from the NDVI (Normalized Differentiation Vegetation Index) and LST (Land Surface Temperature) remotely sensed at major sites in Korea during the 2001-1919 period, the correlation between these indices and various drought indices is analyzed for the purpose of assessing the effects of ecological drought. The relative impact of VCI and TCI on vegetation health was found to vary by region. The effects of drought on vegetation in Korea's forest areas could be more clearly identified in TCI than in VCI. It is suggested that the revised VHI, reflecting the relative influence of VCI and TCI, can better explain the effects of drought on vegetation.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a model for predicting academic achievement of college students and to reveal the interrelationship and relative influence of each factor. For this, we surveyed the personal factors and learning strategy factors of 1,310 learners at J University, and analyzed the discriminant factors and patterns of the predictors of academic achievement through the decision tree analysis, a data mining method, and examined the relative effects of each factor. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed for viewing. As a result, the most important factor for predicting academic achievement was efficacy, and other factors such as motivation, time management, and depression were predictive of academic achievement. The patterns of factors predicting academic achievement were found to be high in efficacy and time management, and high in motivation for learning even if the efficacy was moderate. Low efficacy and learning motivation, and high depression have been shown to decrease academic achievement. Based on these results, the study suggested the efficacy and motivation to improve academic achievement of college students, strengthening time management education, and managing negative emotions.

  • This study is to investigate the effect of early childhood teachers' resilience and social support on job stress. The degree of resilience, social support, and job stress was measured for 250 teachers of early childhood education institutions located in City I, and the relationship and relative influence were analyzed. For data processing, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 18.0 program. As a result, first, early childhood teachers' resilience and social support were measured at a slightly higher level than average, and job stress at a slightly lower level. Second, the resilience and social support of early childhood teachers had a positive relationship, and the resilience and social support had a negative correlation with job stress. Third, as a result of analyzing the relative influence of early childhood teachers' resilience and social support on job stress, 83% explained that organizational environmental factors, material support, and behavioral factors affect job stress. These results suggest that it is most important to provide resilience and social support that can affect the reduction of job stress of in-service teachers.

  • The most important responsibility of a government is to protect citizen lives and its own territory from outside threats. Especially recent political changes surrounding the Korea Peninsula seriously threaten the korean national security. To copy the situation, perception of national security based on citizen's trust in the army is needed. Accordingly survey analysis on effect of trust in the army on perception of national security had been conducted on students of a university located in Ulsan. Result of the statistical analysis as follows. First, while social contribution and military abilities among trust in the army are highly evaluated, integrity and characteristics of organizational culture are low evaluated. Second, all the correlation coefficients among studying variables are significantly positive. But correlation coefficient between social contribution and perception of national security is relatively low. Third, integrity, characteristics, and military abilities has a significant and positive effect on perception of national security, but social contribution has no significant effect.

  • I constructed the 2003 Korean 'social accounting matrix'(SAM) to analyze the multipliers of total demand for each economic activity. I find that the relative magnitude of the influence of the welfare policy to the national economy measured by input-output production multipliers tends to be underestimated compared to SAM multipliers. This is because the total demand multipliers of SAM include the private sector effects, which is not considered in the input-output model. The result also support that income inflows in public service areas including education, health and social work, generate gains in the relative income of households.

  • Due to the nature of teenage students' common tendency of being drawn to consumption conformity engendered by popular trends, and further expanding their unique collectivist culture, this study presumes that middle and high school female students as well have an influential factor that creates their distinctive trait. This study is intended to investigate the students' personal characteristics and effects of social reference groups, and further scrutinize how these influences transcends to deviant make-up behaviors. A total of 297 subjects, middle and high school female students, participated in a survey, using questionnaires focused primarily on the degrees of color makeup and the influences imposed by classmates. The findings of the study are as follows. First, regarding makeup behavior displayed by middle and high school female students, social self-esteem had positive influence on innovation and peer pressure. Second, perceived visibility conversely had negative impacts on innovation and peer pressure. This indicates that if perceived visibility is at a salient level, this already signifies lack of innovation. Third, makeup innovation and peer pressure demonstrated by middle and high school students all showed positive influence on their makeup behaviors. Additionally, peer pressure, in comparison to innovation, had greater influence on makeup behaviors, which indicates that peer pressure play a great role in makeup behavior of middle and high school students. Fourth, makeup behaviors showed strong impacts on makeup satisfaction and rendering deviant behaviors, which indicates that a new direction and perspective regarding middle and high school students' makeup behavior is critical.
