Before transplanting Chinese cabbage seedlings, two kinds of eggshell powder were blended into the soil of cabbage field where the club root pathogen, Plasmodiophora brassicae, was infested. The incidence of clubroot disease, the shoot and root growth of cabbages, and soil pH were examined four times at 10 to 13 days interval from transplanting Chinese cabbage. As results, the cabbages treated with eggshell powder without membrane showed the fastest growth in above ground part, and the lowest disease index for clubroot disease. The cabbages treated with eggshell powder with membrane showed better growth than the cabbages of non-treated check, but lower growth than those treated with eggshell powder without membrane. Soil pH started to increase from 3 weeks after soil blending of eggshell powder, and it reached to above 8.0. However, the soil pH of non-treated check stayed at around 6.8. In the experiment to compare the effect of eggshell powder with other calcium compounds, soil-blending of $CaCO_3$ resulted the lowest disease incidence of 1.7 and the registered fungicide, 'flusulfamide', and the resistant variety 'CR Green cabbage' followed with the incidence of 1.9. Cabbages of non-treated check scored the highest disease incidence, 3.4, and that of eggshell powder without membrane was as high as 2.7. However, the growth of Chinese cabbage showed the different pattern to the disease incidence. Chinese cabbages treated with eggshell without membrane recorded the highest average growth, around 2.1 kg. On the other hand, the average growth of CR Green Chinese cabbage was about 2.0 kg, that of flusulfamide-treatment plot was 1.7, and that of non-treated check was as low as 1.3 kg. Soil blending of eggshell powder without membrane did not inhibit the development of clubroot, but increased the growth of cabbage to a great extent. Therefore, it was confirmed that soil blending of eggshell powder before transplanting makes the Chinese cabbage culture possible even in the field infested with club root pathogen.

Pyriofenone is an aryl phenyl ketone fungicide that is newly registered in Korea in 2013 to control powdery mildew on food. The objective of this study was to develop reliable and sensitive analytical method for determination of pyriofenone residue in agricultural products for ensuring the food safety. The pyriofenone residues in all samples(Korean melon, pepper, potato, mandarin, soybean, and hulled rice) were extracted with acetonitrile, partitioned with dichloromethane, and then purified with a silica cartridge. The purified samples were analyzed by HPLC-UVD and confirmed with LC-MS. The linear range of pyriofenone was 0.05~5 mg/kg with the correlation coefficient ($r^2$) > 0.999. Average recoveries of pyriofenone ranged from 72.8% to 99.5% at the spiked level of 0.05 and 0.5 mg/kg, while the relative standard deviation was 2.3%~6.4%. In addition, the limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg, respectively. The results revealed that the developed and validated analytical method was suitable for pyriofenone determination in agricultural products.
Pepper plants were flooded at 0, 5, 10 and 15cm at seedling stage under the condition of greenhouse. Treatment of flooding times are 6, 12, 24, 48 and 120 hours. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Plant height, number of leaves, shoot and root fresh weight were not recovered the flooding damages regardless of flooding time and depth. Pepper plant died in flooding depth of 5cm or more for over 48 hours. Plants in fallen leaves were found at more than 5cm depth and 6 hours of floodings. Photosynthesis and respiration rate decreased in the 5cm flooding depth or more for 24 hours. Chlorophyll content and root activity decreased for 12 hours or more at all the flooding depth. Also, diffusion resistance of stomata cell increased as increased flooding time and depth. Diseases occurred remarkably in proportion to the depth and hours of flooding treatment. It was not possible to control the desease by fungicide, also then was no effects of foliar spray of urea. Weight of fruit per plant not decrease by the 12 hours of 0cm and the 6 hours of 5cm flooding but decreased at deeper and longer flooding. Average weight of a fruit increased. The yield could not expected in the depth of 5cm or more for over 48 hours, There was significant positive correlation between all the investigated characteristics of growth and yield. There was, however, negative correlation between number of leaf and diffusion resistance of stomata.
The dissipation patterns of a boscalid in cucumber under greenhouse condition was investigated to establish pre-harvest residue limit (PHRL) and biological half-life. Initial concentration of boscalid in cucumber at standard application rate was $7.29\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and decreased to $0.04\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ after 15 days with half-life of 1.9 day, while the initial concentration was $14.69\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and decreased to $0.11\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ after same period with half lift of 2.0 day at double application rate. PHRL was suggested by prediction curve derived from the decay curve of boscalid at double rate treatment. For example, $10.39\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ was calculated for 10 days before harvest, and $1.73\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ for 5 days. Dilution effect was major factor far the decrease of boscalid residue due to fast increasement of weight of cucumber during cultivation. Final residues level of boscalid was predicted based on the dissipation curve and guideline on safe use, when boscalid was used to control powdery mildew and gray mold. At standard rate application, $1.26\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $1.33\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ were calculated as final residue levels for control powdery mildew and gray mold, respectively, which are above the MRL(Meximum Residue Limit).
A sensitive and simple analytical method to identify flutianil residues in agricultural commodities was developed and validated using gas chromatography-electron capture detection (GC-ECD) and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The flutianil residues were extracted with acetonitrile, partitioned with dichloromethane, and then purified using a silica solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridge. The method was validated using pepper, sweet pepper, mandarin, hulled rice, soybean, and potato spiked with 0.02 or 0.2 mg/kg flutianil. The average recovery of flutianil was 76.5-108.0% with a relative standard deviation of less than 10%. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.004 and 0.02 mg/kg, respectively. The result of recoveries and relative standard deviation were in line with Codex Alimentarius Commission Guidelines (CAC/GL 40). These results show that the method developed in this study is appropriate for flutianil identification and can be used to maintain the safety of agricultural products containing flutianil residues.
To investigate the control effect of insect pests by natural enemies, sticky traps were used in commercial tomato greenhouses in Chun-cheon and the experiment fields of Gangwon-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Republic of Korea using semi-forcing culture (February to June). We selected low toxicity pesticides, environment-friendly agricultural materials (EFAM), and natural enemies of the study species, combinations of which have been previously used in farms to control insect pests. In this study, Trialeurodes vaporariorum and thrips, which are major agricultural insect pests, were studied in experimental greenhouses. The adult T. vaporariorum population was observed in mid-April and the population of thrips showed occurrences in early April. Regarding seasonal fluctuation, T. vaporariorum peaked in mid-May and thrips peaked after June. one insecticide, spiromesifen suspension concentrate (SC); one fungicide, cyazofamid SC; and two EFAMs containing neem tree extract were shown to be slightly toxic to Encarsia formosa and Orius laevigatus. The results of this study could be used to develop management models using natural enemies of control the insect pests; T. vaporariorum and thrips in semi-forcing culture of tomato.

This study was conducted to find out the proper chemicals and doses for controlling the bulb disease of Lilium Oriental hybrids 'Capablanca' and 'Marco Polo' cultivars during storage, and to ascertain any disadvantage of the treatment on shoot growth and flower development. Bulbs of 'Casablanca' and 'Marco Polo' cultivars were dipped in some fungicide solutions, including azoxystrobin, benomyl+thiram, and prochloraz, and culture broth of antagonistic bacteria for one hour. The rot was apparently inhibited by azoxystrobin and prochloraz solution dippings and it was not by benomyl+thiram in bulbs produced domestically. To improve physiological integrity, calcium chloride was treated. However, this treatment had no positive effects on bulb rot of lily. When bulbs were dipped in one-fifth of diluted broth. But the bulb rot was inhibited effectively as compared with untreated during storage. Benomyl+thiram and that with calcium inhibited the sprouting in 'Casablanca' and 'Marco Polo' cultivars during cultivation. Calcium and benomyl+thiram treatments decreased growth of leaf and flower but with no statistically significant difference. Other fungicidal materials treated to bulbs showed no effect on vegetative growth and flower quality.

Layered copper hydroxides [LCHs, $Cu_2(OH)_3{\cdot}NO_3$] has the agricultural potentials as a fungicide because of its high crystallinity, excellent anion exchange capacity, and its regular layered particle size. The study, for the first time, has synthesized LCHs in highly concentrated solution and evaluated its physicochemical properties including the crystallinity and suspension stability. Optimal synthetic condition of LCHs was determined by crystallinity and stability of suspension as follow; 1) concentrations of $Cu(NO_3)_2$ and NaOH solutions were 3.0 M respectively, 2) reaction temperature and solution pH were $25^{\circ}C$ and 6.0, respectively, and 3) aging time after reaction was 2hr. Crystallinity of LCHs enhanced with increase in pH up to 9.0. Whereas, stability of suspension was decrease by increase in crystal size. Especially, increase in reaction temperature decreased stability of suspension. XRD patterns and SEM images exhibited that LCHs had regular layered particle size with 0.2~0.8 ${\mu}m$ and high crystallinity in optimal synthetic condition. The particle size was increased with increase in reaction temperature and pH. These results showed that LCHs synthesized in highly concentrated solution exhibited high stability of suspension as well as high crystallinity suitable to their potential as a fungicide.
Isotianil is a novel fungicide which induces systemic acquired resistance in plants. It has excellent preventive effects as low dosages against rice blast which is one of the most serious diseases in rice. The Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of Isotianil in republic of korea was set to 0.1 mg/kg in rice, so it is necessary to determine levels of Isotianil residues in agricultural commodities for controlling food safety. Therefore, The purpose of this study was to develop analytical method for the determination of isotiical residues in agricultural commodities using GC-NPD/MSD. Isotianil was extracted with acetonitrile from apple, chinese cabbage, hulled rice, mandarin, pepper, and soybean. The extract was diluted with saline water, and then dichloromethane partition was followed to recover this fungcide from the aqueous phase. A solid phase extraction with Florisil cartridge was additionally employed for final clean up. Isotianil was analyzed and quantitated by GC-NPD and confirmed by GC-MSD. Average recovery of Isotianil ranged from 70.0 to 103.9% in six representative agricultural commodities with relative standard deviations less than 10%, and limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.05 mg/kg.
The herbicidal properties of perfluidone [1,1,1-trifluoro-N-2-methyl-4-(phenylsulponyl) phenyl methanesulfonamide] were investigated in pots and paddy fields. At the rate of 2.0kg prod./10a, perfluidone did not cause any injury to the 4 leaf stage (LS) rice seedlings. Although the crop injury increased with increasing the application rate, the injury caused by 16kg prod. perfluidone/10a gave rise to only 30% yield reduction. The crop injury was greatest when perfluidone was applied 2 days before transplanting and decreased as the application time delayed. Perfluidone showed greater crop injury to the 3 LS seedlings, at more than 7cm water depth, and at high temperature than to the 4 LS seedlings, at 3-5cm water depth, and at low temperature. Indica and indica ${\times}$ japonica rice varieties were generally more sensitive to perfluidone than japonica rice variety. Perfluidone effectively controlled most of annual weeds and such perennial weeds as Sagittaria pygmaea MIQ., Potamogeton distinctus A. BENN, Cyperus serotinus ROTTB, Scirpus maritimus L., Eleocharis kuroguwai OHWL, and Scirpus hotarui OHWL, whereas Sagittaria trifolia L. and Polygonum hydropiper SPACH. were tolerent to perfluidone. The weeding effect decreased with increasing the leaching amount of water and the overflowing of irrigated water within 24 hours after the herbicide application. When the application time was done later than 8 days after transplanting, the perennial weeds were shown at deeper soil layers, and the standing water was deeper than 7cm, the effect tended to decrease. However, there was no difference in the weeding effect between soil types. Downward movement of perfluidone in flooded soil ranged from 2 to 8cm deep. The movement increased with increasing the leaching amount of water and the application rate and at a sandy loam soil which possessed less adsorptive capacity. Residual effect of perfluidone was found at 35 to 80 days after application, which varied such factors as Soil types. Increase in the leaching amount of water resulted in decrease in the period of the residual effect. The period was shorter at non-sterilized soil than at sterilized soil. The 0.75kg ai perfluidone + 1.5kg ai SL-49 (1,3-dimethyl-6-(2,4-dichlor-benzoyl)-5-phenacyloxy-pyrazole)/ha and 1.5kg ai perfluidone + 1.05kg ai bifenox (2,4-dichlorophenyl-3-methoxy carbonyl-4-nitro phenyl ether)/ha showed less crop injury than 1.5kg ai/ha perfluidone alone. However, the weeding effect of the former was similar to that of the later.
