  • This study is to find the convergence effect of a spouse's support on postpartum depression and self-efficacy in primipara. The subjects were 37 primipara who gave birth to normal full term babies and their spouses. Each spouse supported their mother and baby from the period of postpartum 1st to 6th week after finishing three sessions of postpartum mother and baby care using teaching material. The data was collected in the 1st and 6th week postpartum and analyzed using SPSS 20.0. The prevalence of postpartum depression in the 1st and 6th week were 24.3% and 0% each. The spouses' support lowered mothers' postpartum depression and increased self-efficacy(p<.001). And, the factors affecting to mothers' postpartum depression were additional personnel for postpartum management, income and antepartum depression, and to their self-efficacy was hospital treatment during pregnancy(p<.05). The results could be used in developing intervention programs on lowering primiparas' postpartum depression and increasing their self-efficacy after further studies with wider range of subjects and setting control group.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of postpartum depression intervention program performed in Korea and to evaluate its effectiveness. Of the Korean academic journals reported until November 2018, 13 experimental studies were selected and used for final analysis. The average age of the subjects was 26.9 to 34.4 years, and subjects were puerperal women or couples. The sample size was 6~39 (mean: 20.4) in the experimental group, 5~40 in the control group (mean: 20.0), and the intervention program consisted of 0.5~12 weeks/2~14 sessions/10~120 minutes per session. The design of all the studies was a non-equivalent control group pre-post test design. The main dependent variables, postpartum depression, fatigue, and maternal role self-confidence, were all found to have a statistically significant median level of effect size in the meta-analysis. This study confirms the composition and effects of various experimental studies used to mediate postpartum depression in Korea. This could be used as specific evidence-based data to form an optimal postpartum intervention program.

  • Purpose: To examine effects of a postnatal care program on self-efficacy, self-management, and glycemic control in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized quasi-experimental design was used. Sixty-two women with GDM were enrolled and assigned to either an experimental group (n=30) or a control group (n=32). The experimental group received an intervention which was postnatal care program for women with GDM. The postnatal care program for GDM included an individual education with leaflet and mobile web-based video with three times of telephone counseling. Effects of the intervention were measured with self-efficacy, self-management questionnaire, and a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (75g OGTT). Statistical significance was examined using independent t-test and $x^2-test$. Results: Although there was no significant difference in 75g OGTT ($x^2=.11$, p=.748) or self-management (t=-1.28, p=.206), there was a statistically significant increase in self-efficacy (t=-2.02, p=.048) in the experimental group compared to that in the control group. Conclusion: A postnatal care program is needed for women with GDM to improve their self-efficacy. Further studies are warranted to improve self-management and glycemic control through tailored education for GDM postpartum women.

Results: For maternal fulfillment of postpartum care and postpartum fatigue, there was no significant difference in the interaction between group and time. In terms of parent-newborns attachment, the interaction between group and time showed a significant difference for mothers (F=13.63, p=.001) and fathers (F=6.51, p=.001). In marital intimacy, the interaction between group and time showed a significant difference for mothers (F=14.40, p<.001) and fathers (F=9.46, p=.004). In parenting stress, the interaction between group and time showed a significant difference for mothers (F=31.8, p<.001) and fathers (F=11.69, p=.001). A significant difference was found for the mothers' postpartum sleeping hours (F=0.14 p=.004).
