Toxicity of Chloramine-T on the Flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, and Bactertcidal Activity Against Fish Pathogenic Bacteria and Blue Green Algae, Tetraselmis suecica (Chloramine-T의 넙치에 대한 독성과 어병세균 및 Blue Green Algae에 대한 살균 효과)

  • CT(Sodium N-chloro-para toluenesulfonamide, Chloramine-T) known to be a strong oxidative agent was investigated to use as a candidate of disinfectant in the marine aquaculture industry by the analysis of the bactericidal activity against different aquatic microorganisms. One hundred percent mortality appeared at and above 16 ppm CT in sea water in flounder, the predominant species in the marine aquaculture of Korea, when exposed for 48hr. However, bactericidal activity was appeared to be very effective, and all different species of the fish pathogenic bacteria exposed to CT of less than 2 ppm in sea water were dead within 15 min. It allowed us to confirm that CT could be a very effective disinfectant to protect the spread of fish pathogenic bacteria derived from diseased fish or sea water in marine aquaculture. High concentration(10 ppm) with longer exposing time(24 hrs) was required for the algicidal activity of CT, at which concentration might induce the acute toxicity against fish, however, restricted the expanded use of CT for the elimination of zooplanktons at phytoplanktons in marine farms. Moreover the bactericidal activity of CT inhibited almost completely in the present of more than 10 ppm of organic materials pointed out that quality of the culturing sea water should be considered carefully for the application CT to the aquatic farms as a therapeutic agent.

Effect of Sunlight, Incandescent, Fluorescent, and Ultraviolet Lights on the Oxidation of Edible Soybean Oil (식용유지(食用油脂)의 산화과정(酸化過程)에 대한 일사광선(日射光線), 백열등광선(白熱燈光線), 형광등광선(螢光燈光線) 및 살균등광선(殺菌燈光線)의 촉진작용(促進作俑) 대하여)

  • Samples of refined soybean oil were irradiated with lights from a 20-watt incandescent tungsten lamp, a 20-watt fluorescent daylight type lamp, a 20-watt low-pressure mercury vapor germicidal lamp, and direct sunlight for an experimental period of 147 days. Some samples were stored in a dark room throughout the period as a control. The peroxide values of all samples were measured every week. The induction period of the samples was arbitrarily taken as the time required for the samples to reach a peroxide value of 15. The induction period of the control was estimated at 198 days. Those of the samples irradiated with the incandescent light, the fluorescent light, the ultraviolet light, and the sunlight were estimated at 196, 119, 52 and 6 days, respectively. The sunlight showed by far the strongest prooxidant activity whereas the incandescent light showed the weakest but distinct prooxidant activity. The small temperature differences observed among the various samples throughout the experimental period did not seem to affect the oxidation rates of the irradiated samples in any significant way.

  • Recording materials are the valuable historical and cultural parts themselves as well as the methods for exchanging informations. Therefore, the appropriate conservation treatments should be conducted to the recording materials respectively. In case of the paper records, some particular conservation treatments such as a deacidification and a sterilization are necessary to prevent both bio and chemical deteriorations. In this research, the nano-scaled ZnO and MgO with 10~30nm size were prepared for the effective and stable conservation treatment of the paper records. Deacidification and sterilization effect of nano compounds were excellent and since nano compounds had almost 100% purity(free from Pb, Cd, As), the additional damages caused by the heavy and toxic metals should not be occur to the books and papers.

상하수도 오존 고도처리시스템의 기술동향

  • 오존은, 그 강력한 산화력에 의하여 살균, 탈취, 탈색과 유기물 제거 등의 효과를 복합적으로 얻을 수 있고 또한 신속하게 산소로 분해되어 잔류하지 않기 때문에 환경개선에 사용하기에 이상적인 물질이다. 미쓰비시전기에서는 이러한 오존의 이점에 착안하여 1970년부터 오존발생기와 오존처리설비의 개발, 제품화를 추진하여 왔다. 오존에 의한 고도처리가 널리 일반에게 인정되어 그 수요가 높아지고 있는 오늘날에 있어서도 보다 많은 오존설비의 보급을 위하여 오존기술의 개발에 힘쓰고있다. 본고에서는 상하수도 오존고도처리의 기술동향의 일부로 시도되고 있는 다음의 세 가지 내용을 소개한다. (1)오존처리시스템의 자에너지, 고효율화 기술 방전갭의 단축화, 관분내압력의 고압화로 고농도$\cdot$고효율의 오존발생을 실현하여 자전력화를 가능케 한 신형오조나이저를 개발 제품화하였다. (2)오존 반응조 내에서의 산기장치특성의 파악 모델화가 곤란한 신기장치에 대하여 실설비규모의 실험설비를 사용하여 그 산기특성을 분명히 하였다. (3)과산화수소첨가 오존처리법에 의한 하수처리수의 재생이용 과산화수소첨가 오존처리법에 의하여 장기간에 걸쳐 하수처리수를 전유기탄소(TOC)3mg/$\ell$이하로까지의 처리를 달성하여 하수처리수를 수도수레벨로까지 고도로 정화할 수 있음을 실증하였다.

Effect of Electron Benm Irradiation on the Oxidative and Microbiological Stability of Ground Pork during Storage (전자선 조사가 분쇄 돈육의 저장 중 산화와 미생물적 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • Fresh ground pork was irradiated with the electron beam, and the microbiological and oxidative stability of ground pork was examined during refrigerated and frozen storage. During both storage, with the increase in the irradiation dose from 0 to 3.0 kGy, the inhibition effect of the growth of the total aerobic bacteria and the mesophiles also increased. Psychrotrophic bacteria were not detected at all in the whole experiment. On the other hand, electron beam irradiation promoted the oxidative rancidity of ground pork during refrigerated and frozen storage. The catalytic effect of oxidation was more pronounced with the electron beam dose of 3.0 than that of 1.5 kGy. As a result, the control of lipid oxidation must be achieved to fully utilize the sterilization effect of electron beam in the ground pork.

  • For the purpose of development of new agrochemical fungicide of ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ carboxanilide series a synthesis of 4-acetyl-3-methyl-N-phenyl-1,4-thiazine-2-carboxamide (6) is described. Pummerer reaction of sulfoxide 7 obtained by sulfoxidation of dihydro-1,4-thiazine methyl ester 11 gave ${\alpha}-acetoxy$ dihydro-1,4-thiazine 10a. Under the same reaction conditions, dihydro-1,4-thiazine carboxanilide sulfoxide 14 was converted to acetoxymethyl dihydro-1,4-thiazine 18 through vinylogous Pummerer reaction involving carboxanilide of sulfonium ion through intermediate 15.1,4-Thiazine carboxanilide 6 was synthesized from the treatment of ${\alpha}-acetoxy$ dihydro-1,4-thiazine 10a with acid cat-alyst followed by hydrolysis and then the reaction with aniline.

Preparation and Keeping Quality of Canned Sea Mussel using Tomato Paste (토마토 페이스트 첨가 홍합통조림의 제조 및 저장중의 품질 안전성)

  • This study was investigated for the purpose of obtaining basic data which can be applied to processing of canned sea mussel using tomato paste. Shell were washed, and then steamed and shucked. Sea mussel meat was prepared with ratio of sea mussel 90g, tomato paste sauce 65g(tomato paste 42%, gum guar 1.0%, salt 2.0%, starch syrup 2.0%, cooking wine 1%, water 52%). The sea mussel meats were packed with vacuum seamer in 301-3 can, and then sterilized for various F0 value(F0 8-12 min.) in a steam system retort at $118^{\circ}C$. The factors such as pH, VBN, amino-N, total amino acid, free amino acid, chemical composition, color value (L, a, b), texture profile, TBA value, mineral, sensory evaluation and viable bacterial count of the canned sea mussel produced with various sterilization condition(F0 8-12 min.) were measured. The same element was also measured during preservation. The results showed that the product sterilized at F0 8 min. and preserved for 90 days were the most desirable.

Antibacterial and Antiviral Activities of Multi-coating Polyester Textiles (다중 코팅 폴리에스터 섬유 여재의 항균 및 항바이러스 특성)

  • The effect of coated polyester (PET) textiles with metal oxide, chitosan, and copper ion on the antibacterial and antiviral activities was evaluated to investigate the applicability of multi-coated PET textiles as antiviral materials. Compared to coated PETs with a single agent, multi-coated PETs reduced the loading amount of coating materials as well as the contact time with bacteria for a bacterial cell number of < 10 CFU/mL, which was not detectable with the naked eyes. Metal oxides generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as free radicals by a catalytic reaction, and copper ions can promote contact killing by the generation of ROS. Chitosan not only enhanced antibacterial activities due to amine groups, but enabled it to be a template to load copper ions. We observed that multi-coated PET textiles have both antibacterial activities for E. coli and S. aureus and antiviral efficiency of more than 99.9% for influenza A (H1N1) and SARS-CoV-2. The multi-coated PET textiles could also be prepared via a roll-to-roll coating process, which showed high antiviral efficacy, demonstrating its potential use in air filtration and antiviral products such as masks and personal protective equipment.

Characteristics of Electrolyzed Water Manufactured from Various Electrolytic Diaphragm and Electrolyte (전기분해 격막 및 전해액에 따른 전해수의 특성 비교)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of surface sterilization and the physicochemical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolytic diaphragm and electrolyte. Physical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from the diaphragm system were the most effective at the following conditions; the distance between diaphragms was 1.0 mm and the supplying rate of 20% NaCl was 6 mL/min. The ORP, HClO content and pH at above conditions were 1,170 mV, 100 ppm and 2.5, respectively. And two stage electrolyzed system was more effective than one stage electrolyzed water manufactured from non-diaphragm system, with 4 mL/min supplying rate of 20% NaCl, was similar to the most effective diaphragm system. But ORP, HClO content and pH were abut 800 mV, 200 ppm and 9 level, respectively. Sealed electrolyzed water could be preserved more than one month at room temperature with ORP of 750 mV in non-diaphragm system and 1,150 mV in diaphragm system, and HClO content of 100 ppm. Twelve kinds of microorganism tested were sterilized within 30 seconds from initial total counts of 10$\^$5/∼10$\^$6/cfu/ml by electrolyzed water. Though the ORP and HCIO contents of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolyte were higher in order of NaCl>KCl>CaCl$_2$, there were no difference between the electyolytes in the efficacy of sterilization. Composite Oxidizing Agents Generation Using Electrolysis of Dilute Hydrochloric Acid (묽은 산 전기분해에 의한 복합 산화제 생성)

  • Disinfection by electrolysis would be useful for small wastewater treatment plant, combined sewer overflow, ballast water, swimming pool, and fish farming, where the transport, storage, and the use of chlorine gas is limited. This study investigated the feasibility of the electrolysis of dilute hydrochloric acid (HCl) for disinfection. The effects of HCl concentration, voltage and reaction time on the generation of oxidizing agents, HOCl, $O_3$, and $H_2O_2$, were examined in a series of batch test. The highest current efficiency was 99.3% which was found at 2.2%, 3 V, and 5 min of HCl concentration, voltage, and reaction time, respectively. Continuous electrolysis at 2.2% HCl, 3 V, and 5 min of the hydraulic retention time showed 97.4% of the current efficiency. Addition of sodium chloride up to 20 g/L linearly increased the oxidizing agents production. 92.2% of total coliforms were removed by the contact with the electrolyzed water.
