  • In this research, a high temperature superconducting(HTS) motor is designed which is adequate for an electrical aircraft by generating high power density and the potentiality of its application to an aircraft is studied. The designed motor is based on YBCO plates, HTS coils composed of Bi-2223, and ironless air cooled resistive armature. The HTS motor is designed to generate power equivalent to O-360 engine with 180HP at 2700RPM which is used for Cessna and equivalent to CFM56 engine with 18000HP at 5000RPM which is used for B-737. Also, power densities of HTS motors are compared with power densities of aircraft engines so that we can estimate the potentiality of the HTS motor as an aircraft engine.

  • Radiation shielding clothing for medical institutions is used based on lead equivalent of 0.25 mmPb. However, this study intends to study the shielding suit that can guarantee the user's activity while considering the sensitivity of each part of the body. By manufacturing based on eco-friendly shielding material, it was attempted to solve the weight problem and environmental problem of existing lead aprons, and to present the same shielding performance as lead equivalent in thickness. The fabric of the produced shielding sheet was manufactured through a calendar process that adjusts the thickness of the shielding sheet from lead equivalent 0.12 mmPb to 0.32 mmPb. In addition, the usability evaluation of the manufactured shielding clothes was conducted for the subjects who were workers in medical institutions. As a result, the activity became easier and the weight was reduced by 0.26 kg. In the future, it is thought that it is necessary to improve the shielding suit design considering the activity.

  • Dissolution procedures of Monsanto catalyst which has been used to produce acrylronitrile by ammoxidation of propylene have been studied. Optimum dissolution condition of the catalyst supported on silica was obtained by microwave digestion system with mixed of HCl, HF and $H_2O_2$. When a safety device was activated by increased pressure in microwave vessel, Bi, Fe, Mo, Sb and U were not volatilized even though silica was volatilized as $SiF_4$. Quantification results by this method were $SiO_2$ $50.5{\pm}0.4%$, $Sb_2O_3$ $29.6{\pm}0.6%$, $UO_2$ $10.2{\pm}0.1%$, $Fe_2O_3$ $6.1{\pm}0.1%$, $MoO_3$ $0.73{\pm}0.01%$ and $Bi_2O_3$ $0.49{\pm}0.01%$ by ICP-AES and the relative error was within ${\pm}10%$ except bismuth.

  • It is requested to improve negative electrode of Ni-Zn battery for industrial application. Ni-Zn battery has main problems not to commercialize because of short life cycle, heavy gassing and fast electrolyte vaporization so far. It has been studied on 8 cells performances under promoting electric, additional materials and binders changed. With these materials($Ca(OH)_2$, $Bi_2O_3$), negative electrolyte can be manufactured equal and tight as well as low gassing. Furthermore, to supply EG-EP#12(gravity 1.26), keeping stable electrolyte gravity in battery, the life cycle of Ni-Zn battery is extremely improved 200~300% than initial performance.

  • The Ssangjeon tungsten deposit is located within the Yeongnam Massif. Within the area a number of hydrothermal quartz veins were formed by narrow open-space filling of parallel and subparallel fractures in the metasedimentary rocks as Wonnam formation, Buncheon granite gneiss, amphibolite and/or pegmatite. Mineral paragenesis can be divided into two stages (stage I, ore-bearing quartz vein; stage II, barren quartz vein) by major tectonic fracturing. Stage I, at which the precipitation of major ore minerals occurred, is further divided into three substages (early, middle and late) with paragenetic time based on minor fractures and discernible mineral assemblages: early, marked by deposition of arsenopyrite with pyrite; middle, characterized by introduction of wolframite and scheelite with Ti-Fe-bearing oxides and base-metal sulfides; late, marked by Bi-sulfides. Fluid inclusion data show that stage I ore mineralization was deposited between initial high temperatures (≥370℃) and later lower temperatures (≈170℃) from H2O-CO2-NaCl fluids with salinities between 18.5 to 0.2 equiv. wt. % NaCl of Ssangjeon hydrothermal system. The relationship between salinity and homogenization temperature indicates a complex history of boiling, fluid unmixing (CO2 effervescence), cooling and dilution via influx of cooler, more dilute meteoric waters over the temperature range ≥370℃ to ≈170℃. Changes in stage I vein mineralogy reflect decreasing temperature and fugacity of sulfur by evolution of the Ssangjeon hydrothermal system with increasing paragenetic time.

  • Color stability of pulp-capping material is considered vital to the final aesthetic result since the material is placed in the coronal area. The purpose of this study was to compare the color stability of various pulp-capping materials by analyzing color change of tooth over time. A cavity was formed in the crown of the extracted premolar, and 4 types of pulp-capping materials were filled. Color assessment was performed with a spectrophotometer at different intervals: before placement; immediately after material placement; 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks after placement. Proroot white MTA® and TheraCal LC® showed a significant decrease in the L* value and an increase in the ∆E* value over time. In contrast, Biodentine® and Well-RootTM PT showed no significant change in the L* value and maintained a steady ∆E* value. The application of pulp-capping materials containing bismuth oxide as a radiopacifier may result in a color change of teeth. Long-term color stability of pulp-capping materials should be considered when treating teeth with thin enamel thickness or in aesthetically important area.
