Highly enriched oxygen is used in energy-efficient combustion due to decreased non-flammable nitrogen, while high purity nitrogen is used for explosion proof in the LNG ships and keeping the freshness of green stuffs. Membrane technology can be used in these $O_2$ and $N_2$ generation with low energy consumption. In this study, PES was used as a membrane material and 1-methyl-2-pyrollidone (NMP) and acetone were employed as a good solvent and nonsolvent addictive (swelling agent to PES), respectively. Dope solutions were prepared by changing the content of acetone (0, 6.5, 15, 25, 31.5 wt%) in 37 wt% PES solutions. Hollow fiber spinning was performed at 0~10 cm of air-gap distances for each dope solution. $O_2/N_2$ selectivity and permeability were investigated by comparing of hollow fibers coated or not by silicons. $O_2/N_2$ selectivity increased and permeance of $O_2$ and $N_2$ decreased with increasing air-gap height independently of acetone addictions. Optimized PES hollow fibers were obtained with 37/6.5/56.5 wt% PES/acetone/NMP dope solution and 10 cm air-gap, which showed 7.3 of $O_2/N_2$ selectivity and 4.3 GPU of $O_2$ permeability after silicon coating.

$SrCo_{0.8}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ oxide was synthesized by solid state reaction method. Dense ceramic membrane was prepared using as-prepared powder by pressing and sintering at $1250^{\circ}C$. XRD result of membrane showed single perovskite structure. The oxygen permeability were measured under 0.21 atm of oxygen partial pressure ($P_{O_2}$) and between 800 and $950^{\circ}C$. The oxygen permeation flux of $SrCo_{0.8}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ membrane was increased with the increasing temperature. The maximum oxygen permeation flux was $1.839mL/min{\cdot}cm^2$ at $950^{\circ}C$. Long period permeability experiment was carried out to confirm the phase stability and $CO_2$-tolerance of membrane containing Nb in the condition of air with $CO_2$ (500 ppm) as feed stream at $900^{\circ}C$. The phase stability and $CO_2$-tolerance of $SrCo_{0.8}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ were investigated by XRD and TG analysis. The result of $SrCo_{0.8}Fe_{0.1}Nb_{0.1}O_{3-{\delta}}$ which exposed carbon dioxide for 100 hours indicated 8wt% of $SrCO_3$. But it was known that the level of $SrCO_3$ production dose not have a significant effect on oxygen permeability.
ln an attempt to define the effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on the lipid peroxidation and oxygen See radical reactions in rats exposed to carbon monoxide, we studied malondialdehyde(MDA) level and activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase in the heart of the rats exposed to carbon monoxide. Male Sprague-Dawley albino rats weighing 240 to 260gm were used. Experimental groups consist of Control group (=breathing with air), HBO group(=exposed to hyperbaric oxygen(HBO, 3ATA, 100%) after air breath), CO group(=exposed to CO(3,970 ppm) after air breath), CO-Air group(=exposed to CO after air breath followed by air breath) and CO-HBO group(=exposed to CO after ai. breath followed HBO treatment). The CO group showed significantly higher MDA level, catalase activity and SOD activity as compared to that of control group. The CO-HBO group showed significantly lower MDA level as compared to that of CO group, and did not show significantly lower catalase activity and SOD activity as compared to that of CO group. These results suggest that the excessive oxygen free radicals is an important determinant in pathogenesis of Co-induced cardiotoxicity and HBO inhibits the lipid peroxidation caused by excessive oxygen free radicals in the heart of the rats exposed to carbon monoxide.
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)/functionalized-MWNT hybrid films were prepared by the solution intercalation method, using 4-cumylphenol-MWNT (CP-MWNT) as the functionalized-MWNT. The variation of the thermomechanical properties, morphology, gas permeability, and optical transparency of the hybrid films with CP-MWNT content in the range of 0$\sim$2.00 wt% were examined. The newly synthesized UHMWPE/functionalized-MWNT hybrid films were characterized by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and a universal tensile machine (UTM). It was found that the addition of only a small amount of functionalized-MWNT was sufficient to improve the thermomechanical properties of the UHMWPE hybrid films, with maximum enhancement being observed in the CP-MWNT loading in the range 0.50 to 1.00 wt%. The maximum enhancement in the oxygen gas barrier was also found at the functionalized MWNT content of 1.00 wt%. In this work, the thermomechanical properties and gas permeability of the hybrid films were found to be better than those of pure UHMWPE.
This study was designed to develope the functional anti-diabetes drink, Dia-D using silkworm (Bombyx mori L) extract Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats (160${\pm}$10g) were fed basic diet (control group), and experimental diets (SWE-l0, 30, 60 groups and Daonil-40, 80 groups) added silkworm extract 10, 30 and 60mg/day or diabetes drug prepared and marketed by Handok Pham. Co., Daonil 40 and 80 mg/day for 12 days. Blood glucose contents were significantly decreased 25-30% in SWE-30 and SWE-60 groups, and about 35% in Daonil 40 and Daonil 80 groups compared with control group. Triglyceride (TG) and lipid peroxide (LPO) contents were significantly inhibited 10-16% and 8-13%, respectively, in SWE-30 and 60 groups, whereas these contents were 13-30% and 15%, respectively, in Daonil-40 and 80 groups compared with control group. Hydroxyl radical (OH) contents were significantly inhibited 19-20% in SWE-30 and 60 groups, and 7-12% in Daonil-40 and 80 groups compared with control group. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were significantly increased 11-14% in SWE-30 and 60 groups, and 12-29% in Daonil-40 and 80 groups compared with control group. In results of clinical test using normal subjects, blood glucose content tested in NIAST subjects as anti-diabetes drink, Dia-D willi 100mg/vial was significantly decreased 17.5%, and these content tested in PKNU subjects as anti-diabetes drink, Dia-D with 150mg/vial was significantly decreased 20.5% compared with control group. These results suggest that administration of Dia-D as an anti-diabetes drink prepared with silkworm extract may playa very effective role in a decreasing of blood glucose in hyperglycemia patients.

Flumazenil is a competitive antagonist of benzodiazepines. It is usually administered intravenously. However, if the intravenous route is not available then other routes of drug administration should be considered. This study was designed to evaluate the reversal effects of flumazenil after nasal administration. Twenty-five young, healthy adult volunteers participated in this clinical trial. The dosage of 0.08mg/kg midazolam was administered intravenously to induce deep sedation. Ten minutes after midazolam administration, 0.5mg of flumazenil was dropped nasally, over a period of one minute. Blood samples were taken to measure the concentration of midazolam and flumazenil at 0, 5, 10, and 20min after nasal administration of flumazenil, using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The degree of sedation was evaluated with sedation score and bispectral index (BIS), Statistical analysis was performed by multivariate ANOVA and correlation analysis (P<0.05). Peak serum flumazenil concentration was reached in 10min. Sedation score decreased after midazolam administration and showed a significant increase after flumazenil administration. However, BIS decreased during the first 10min after midazolam administration and then no significant changes after flumazenil administration. There were two instances representing rapid and complete reversal of midazolam after intranasal administration of flumazenil. In conclusion, intranasal flumazenil administration may be effective in some patients when intravenous route is not available in condition of benzodiazepine overdose.
Correct packaging enables processors to pack fresh produce and extend its shelf life. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of different packaging materials on the weight loss, pH, $O_2$, $CO_2$ and sensory characteristics of soybean sprouts during their storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for seven days. Soybean sprouts ($320{\pm}20g$) were packaged with oriented polypropylene (OPP) and cast polypropylene (CPP) films, respectively. The $O_2$ transmission rate of the packaging materials was set to have a control of $10,000cc/m^2$.day.atm, and an OP15 and CP15 with $15,000cc/m^2$.day.atm through a pre-screening test. The average weight loss of the soybean sprouts during their storage was less than 10%, and that of the soybean sprouts with a CPP film was higher than that of the OPP film. The pH of the soybean sprouts increased during their storage regardless of their packaging materials; but compared to the pH of the soybean sprouts packaged with OPP, those packaged with CPP were higher. The $CO_2$ content of the packaging increased with a decrease in the $O_2$ content. The ratio of $CO_2$ to $O_2$ in the soybean sprouts with the OPP film was 3.5 times higher than in the soybean sprouts with the CPP film. The results of the overall sensory test showed that the marketability of the soybean sprouts packaged with OPP film and stored at $5^{\circ}C$ seemed to have been maintained effectively for six days (at a $15,000cc/m^2$.day.atm $O_2$ transmission rate). When the correlation coefficients of the control, OP15 and CP15 were analyzed, the highest correlation was shown between a control and OP15 (0.986; p<0.01).
This study was to evaluate the effects of tramadol and medetomidine administration on minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane in dogs. MAC of isoflurane was determined in four occasions; 1 ml saline (Control), $2{\mu}g$/kg medetomidine (M2), 4 mg/kg tramadol (T4), $2{\mu}g$/kg medetomidine-4 mg/kg tramadol combination (M2T4). Heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, end-tidal carbon dioxide concentration, saturation of hemoglobin with oxygen and body temperature were recorded. After administration of M2 ($0.81{\times}0.18%$), T4 ($0.81{\times}0.14%$) and M2T4 ($0.62{\times}0.12%$), less isoflurane was required than the control value ($1.13{\times}0.19%$). Significantly lower heart rate than the control value was detected after treatment of M2, T4, and M2T4. When only M2T4 was administered, blood pressure was significantly higher than the control value. In conclusion, administrations of tramadol, medetomidine and medetomidine-tramadol combination decreased the MAC of isoflurane in dogs. Especially, medetomidine-tramadol combinations could be useful as a premedication because of the anesthetic sparing effect and moderate changes in cardiovascular system.
For the determination of anti oxidative effects of Korean red ginseng extracts, 100 mg/kg body weight of paraquat(1,1-dimethyl-4,4-bipyrimidinium dichloride) was injected to peritoneal cavity of 6 weeks 23-27 g of ICR mail mice which were pretreated with 200 mg/kg body weight of korean red ginseng extracts(total saponin, water extracts, alcohol extracts, lipophilic extracts) and ascorbic acid for 5 days. Most of mice died of paraquat toxicity within 4 days except only $30\%$ of ascorbic acid group. The hepatic total-SOD activity in liver was highest in ascorbic acid group and lipophilic ginseng extracts group next (p<0.0l). The level of hepatic hydroperoxide was lowest in the order of in alcohol extracts group, lipophilic extracts group and ascorbic acid group (p<0.0l). The highest catalase activity was induced by ascorbic acid followed by water extracts and lipophillic extracts (p<0.01). Finally, the lipid peroxidation level (malondialdehyde:MDA) was the lowest in water extracts group and ascorbic acid next (p<0.01). The highest MDA level was appeared in praquat group and next total saponin group next. In conclusion, the order of effectiveness of antioxidants was found to be ginseng water extracts> ascorbic acid> lipophillic extracts> other ginseng extracts. It was also found that any predominant antioxidant was not effective evenly to all of antioxidant test.
Transdermal drug delivery offers an alternative method to the conventional oral and injection delivery method. Its advantages include its ability to deliver drugs directly into systemic circulation. However, there have been restrictions in its application to deliver drugs because of the skin's barrier function. In this study, we try to combine a Sonophoresis and oxygen Pressure method in order to increase the Permeability of the skin. we used water as the compound and by utilizing the skin impedance method. we measured the hydration Permeability of skin Ultrasound was applied using a sonicator(Solcare-U1000. Solco, Korea) operating at a frequency of 1MHz. oxygen Pressure was applied using a compressor(Oxyjet-Pointer, Nora Bode. Germany) operating at a pressure of 2Bar/cm2. Experiment was performed in vivo for 42 People. We divided the subjects into four smaller groups. A different transdermal drug delivery method was applied for each group on the back of their hand. We measured the skin impedance variations on the hand. during a 20-minute time Period. The control group did not show any significant increase or variation of skin impedance to water. In comparison to the control group(Passive diffusion) the hydration Permeability of the ultrasound group and the oxygen Pressure group was approximately 25 and 30 times higher consecutively. Futhermore, the hydration permeability of the combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure group was about 70-fold higher in comparison to the control group(passive diffusion) . The results reveal that a combination of ultrasound and oxygen Pressure will significantly enhance transdermal water transport compared when only one of them is used.
