In the case of curriculum achievement standards, 'cultural understanding' was hardly included among the seven science and social-emotional learning elements, 'numeracy' and 'creative thinking' appeared high in middle school, 'critical thinking', 'social technology' and 'ethical understanding' were included with high frequency in high school. And in the case of textbook activity, the tendency of social-emotional learning elements in middle school and high school was similar. • This study was conducted to propose anti-stigma strategies by verifying the social stigma on behavioral addiction under the premise that social stigma is a main obstacle to the treatment of addiction. A research model was constructed by applying the attribution affection theory and the modified attribution affection theory, which are very useful for explaining emotional and behavioral responses to the persons with mental illness. In other words, when attributing the causes of behavioral addiction to the personally controllable things such as personality, will and lifestyle, social distance can be increased by the mediate of anger. However, when attributing the causes of behavioral addiction to biological factors that can not be controlled by an individual, there can exist two pathway, one is the arising of helping behaviors by the mediate of sympathy (the attribution affection theory), and the other is the aggravation in the social distance due to rising fear (the modified attribution affection theory). In order to verify the research model, 383 adult subjects mainly in South Gyeongsang Province were randomly presented with the vignettes of gambling addiction and internet game addiction, and asked about the causes of the problems and their emotional, prejudicial, and behavioral responses to them. As a result, all pathway had statistically significant predictive effect. Therefore, in the case of attributing to personal causes, social distance increased by the mediate of anger. In the case of attributing to biological causes, both pathway had significant predictive effect, but the indirect effect of the pathway predictive of the helping behavior by the mediate of sympathy was greater. Researchers suggested that anti-stigma strategies, which emphasize that behavioral addiction is a mental health problem requiring treatment, are necessary.

  • This study aims to examine whether emotional clarity predicts low levels of social interaction anxiety among senior citizens and to verify whether self-esteem and self-efficacy play a critical role as mediators between them. An online survey measuring emotional clarity, social interaction anxiety, self-esteem, and self-efficacy was conducted with 217 Korean senior citizens. The analysis revealed that emotional clarity in old age predicted lower social interaction anxiety. Besides, self-esteem mediated the relationship between emotional clarity and social interaction anxiety, while self-efficacy did not produce consistent results. That is, recognizing one's emotions increases one's self-esteem, which reduces social interaction anxiety, but this mediating effect could not be confirmed through self-efficacy. This result emphasizes that recognizing one's emotions in old age is an important factor in facilitating interaction with others, and shows that individuals can be comfortable in relational situations because emotional clarity increases one's self-esteem. Finally, the implications of this study and the future direction of this research area were discussed.

  • This study investigates happy life experiences and their emotional responses to these experiences with a sample of Korean students and adults. A total of 489 Korean university students and adults completed an open-ended questionnaire developed by the present researchers. Three sets of results have been found. First, while experiences of achievement and failure affect the strength of feelings of happiness or unhappiness, social relationships with family members and friends affect the frequency of feelings of happiness or unhappiness. Second, while strong positive affects are aroused by sense of achievement and pride, frequent positive affects are aroused by feeling of calmness and positive relational emotions (such as Jung - deep affection and attachment). Third, while strong negative affects are aroused by sense of frustration and sadness, frequent negative affects are aroused by anxiety and negative relational emotions (such as the sense of indebtedness and shame). These results indicate that the interpersonal relationships with family members and friends and personal achievements and failures influence the subjective well-being of feeling happy or unhappy with people's lives.

  • Present study investigated the effects of poverty and poverty-co-factors in childhood. The effect of poverty status was measured by needs-income ratio. It compared its effect on children's socio-emotional development with that of poverty proxy variables such as recipient of public assistance, financial stress, subjective perception about social class, residence in public housing. It also examined the effects of poverty-co-factors after poverty status were controlled. Results show that poverty status has a more consistent negative relationship with socio-emotional development than other proxy variables. However, the relationship between them disappeared after poverty-co-factors were controlled. Findings from the present study suggest that targeted efforts for decreasing poverty-co-factor risks should be made along with financial support.
