  • The purpose of this study was twofold: 1) to analyze the impact factor of clothing and textile-related journals by utilizing the average number of cross-citation that evaluates the relative importance of an academic journal and 2) to provide a list of journals with higher impact factor by analyzing closeness and betweenness among individual journals through graph networks. To fulfill this, a total of 10 clothing and textile-related journals, which are accredited by National Research Foundation of Korea, were analyzed. For analysis of the average number of cross-citation, the targeted research papers were limited to those published between 2008 and 2011 and they were derived from the Korea Citation Index. The software used for network analysis was R ver. 2.15. The results of the study were as follow: First, 'The Korean Society of Knit Design' was indicated as the highest rate of self-citation, followed by 'Journal of the Korean Fashion & Costume Design Association.' Secondly, the average impact power of clothing & textile-related journals was relatively lower (0.681) compared to that (1.00) of 23 journals under the human ecology discipline. 'Korean Journal of Human Ecology' was found to have impact factor of 1.24, which was higher than the average impact factor of human ecology-related journals. Lastly, together with 'Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles.'

  • As far as the universities in south Korea are concerned, they have to meet the need of the situation as the number of the incoming students are decreasing because of the population-reducing in south Korea. The Ministry of Education Science and Technology is enforcing the restructuring of an universities by evaluating all the universities in Korea by using some indices (employment rate, supplement rate of students etc.). Most of the universities in Korea are widely permitting the changes of the major study as a method to improve the 'supplement rate of students' among some measures. These changes of major study (moving in and moving out) can give rise to difficulties in managing an university because there might be the departments with a small number of students as they moving out from low level departments to high level ones. Moreover, as raising the change rate of the major study, there is no loss from the university's point of view but a department could be in a difficult situation. The purpose of this study is to grasp the characteristics for changing major study by a general statistical analysis and graphs produced by a social network analysis with the D university's case. The results of this study are as follows; (a) category is from the engineering to humanity-society, (b) entrance level is from low to high, and (c) employment rate is from low to high as well.

  • Human resources are one of the most essential elements of an organization. In particular, the more closed a group is, the higher the value each member has. Previous studies have focused on personal attributes of individual, such as medical history, and have depended upon self-diagnosis to manage structures. However, this method has weak points, such as the timeconsuming process required, the potential for concealment, and non-disclosure of participants' mental states, as this method depends on self-diagnosis through extensive questionnaires or interviews, which is solved in an interactive way. It also suffers from another problem in that relations among people are difficult to express. In this paper, we propose a multi-faced diagnosis model based on social network analysis which overcomes former weaknesses. Our approach has the following steps : First, we reveal the states of those in a social network through 9 questions. Next, we diagnose the social network to find out specific individuals such as victims or leaders using the proposed algorithm. Experimental results demonstrated our model achieved 0.62 precision rate and identified specific people who are not revealed by the existing methods.

  • Collaborative Filtering is one of the most used recommender systems. However, basically it cannot be used to recommend new products to customers because it finds products only based on the purchasing history of each customer. In order to cope with this shortcoming, many researchers have proposed the hybrid recommender system, which is a combination of collaborative filtering and content-based filtering. Content-based filtering recommends the products whose attributes are similar to those of the products that the target customers prefer. However, the hybrid method is used only for the limited categories of products such as music and movie, which are the products whose attributes are easily extracted. Therefore it is essential to find a more effective approach to recommend to customers new products in any category. In this study, we propose a new recommendation method which applies centrality concept widely used to analyze the relational and structural characteristics in social network analysis. The new products are recommended to the customers who are highly likely to buy the products, based on the analysis of the relationships among products by using centrality. The recommendation process consists of following four steps; purchase similarity analysis, product network construction, centrality analysis, and new product recommendation. In order to evaluate the performance of this proposed method, sales data from H department store, one of the well.known department stores in Korea, is used.

  • This study aims to explore structural properties and central actors of the local water policy system through a network approach, and to suggest practical implications for establishing collaborative water governance at the local level. Especially, this study conducts a social network analysis to empirically analyze the actors' roles and relationships of water management in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and represent them with sociograms. In this study, the local water management network is divided into two dimensions: official work network, public-private policy network based on information-sharing and consultation. Also, the networks are divided into a whole network and two sectoral networks(water-use/water-quality). This study found some meaningful differences of structural properties and central actors not only in the official work networks and the policy networks but also in the water-use networks and the water-quality networks. Thus, public managers should diagnose and manage the relational properties among multiple stakeholders in local water sector through a network perspective. In particular, (1)co-operation between the administrative departments responsible for water-use and water-quality, and (2)information-sharing and consultation among public and private stakeholders should be improved to establish collaborative local water governance.

  • P2P (Peer to Peer) techniques have been well applied to file sharing due to its cost-effectiveness and convenience. Dynamic network evolution is another good thing for P2P according to addition and deletion of nodes and change of files a node has. Our research proposes a P2P-based KMS (Knowledge Management System). Knowledge of enterprises spreads all over sub-organizations like oversea factories and sales departments and is changed in dynamic manner. P2P techniques are, therefore well matched with knowledge management domain. In order to increase search efficiency, we introduce social network theory into P2P-based KMS. Social network technique makes the most similar nodes (in KMS domain, nodes which has the most similar knowledge) its own neighbors, which makes eventually search efficiency increase. We developed our prototype system P2P-SN-KMS and evaluated by simulation.

  • Graphical models can be used as an intuitive tool for modeling a complex stochastic system with a large number of variables related each other because the conditional independence between random variables can be visualized as a network. Graphical least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) is considered to be effective in avoiding overfitting in the estimation of Gaussian graphical models for high dimensional data. In this paper, we consider the model selection problem in graphical LASSO. Particularly, we compare various model selection criteria via simulations and analyze a real financial data set.

  • Despite the growing online exposure of retailes, offline retail channels still outperform online channels in the total retail volume of some countries. There is much interest in the physical layout plans of retail stores to expand sales. Product placement that have a large impact on customer purchasing behavior at offline retailers influences customer movement and sales volume. But in many cases, each retailer relies on unsystematic and autonomous product placement. When multiple products are sold with one purchase, the customer's movement for shopping may be evaluated in terms of customer efficiency and additional impulse purchase. In this paper, the social network is applied to sales data of a retail store and the result is used for evaluation of product placement and customer path. The frequent sales product composition was identified using k-core from sales data in the form of shopping baskets. The location was checked for the identified compositions of products, the spatial variance was measured and the customer's path was identified. With these results, the store arrangement of products was evaluated with appropriate improvement directions. The analysis method of this paper can be an alternative analysis approach for better layout of retail stores.
