  • This study attempts to investigate the trajectories of socio-economic deprivation on the depression trajectories among middle-aged individuals using a latent growth model over the last five years. Using the Korea welfare panel study data ranged from the year 2013 (8th wave) to the year 2017 (12th wave), a sample of 7,437 aged over 40 was selected. Three hypothesis was proposed as follows. Is the trajectory of depression changing over the years? Are the initial values of socio-economic deprivation causally related to the initial values of depression? Are the rates of change in socio-economic deprivation causally related to the rates of change in depression? Results showed that the growth curve of depression tended to decline negatively over the five-year period. As the intial values of socio-economic deprivation increased, so did the initial values of depression move upwards. Finally, as the changes of socio-economic deprivation tended to get larger, those changes of depression also accordingly increased as well. The public policy implications based on the current study were discussed to pay more attention to those middle-aged individuals suffering from socio-economic deprivations.

  • In this study, we aimed to identify the impact of socioeconomic characteristics on the health status of Chinese, which suggests that there might be the phenomena of health inequality in China. We used the year 2000, 2004 and 2009 pooled cross-sectional data of China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), and utilized the Ordinary Least Square model (OLS) and Ordered Logit Estimation Method for this purpose. Empirical results showed that socioeconomic status and year dummy variables have a meaningful impact on Chinese health status. Therefore, we conclude that the phenomenon of health inequality has existed in China since 2000.

  • In order to develop practical implications for depression among the elderly, this study examines socioeconomic and health-behavioral risk factors of geriatric depression diagnosis. Sample consists of 964 elders aged 65 and over, living in an urban community. Using the Short-form Geriatric Depression Scale(SGDS), study subjects were screened for geriatric depression to those who presented 10 points and over in SGDS. Descriptive statistics shows that about 22.2% elders are estimated to suffer from geriatric depression. Predictors of geriatric depression diagnosis were examined through logistic regression. Results show that elders who live with family, who have medical insurance, who have higher education, who don't smoke, and who do more physical activities were less likely to suffer from geriatric depression. These findings indicate that socioeconomic position such as health insurance, education and health behaviors such as smoking, physical activities are closely related to geriatric depression, suggesting that interventions on socioeconomic position and health behaviors may be effective to reduce depression among the elderly.

  • Recently the systematic change in the fire and disaster prevention administration, which was less studied than other administrative systems, has been in progress. In particular, the fire service demands are increasing and forms are diversified. The first thing you must do is to make up the fire service power according to the fire service demands. Such an allocation results in social welfare satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of fire service force. And this study investigates that fire service demand is affected by socioeconomic factor. To do this, this study reviews fire service force, the fire service demand, socioeconomic factor and financial factor. And this study sets up four hypotheses based on the theoretical backgrounds and the past research. The statistical method used for the verification of hypotheses are multiple regression analysis and structural equitation analysis. The analysis showed that fire service demand and financial factor were positive significant variable for fire service power. But socioeconomic factor was a negative significant variable. Also the analysis showed that social factor was a positive significant variable and economic factor was a negative significant variable for fire service demand.
