  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reproducibility and errors in landmark identification of conventional lateral cephalometric radiography and digital lateral cephalometric radiography. Fifteen conventional lateral cephalometric radiographs and fifteen digital lateral cephalometric radiographs were selected in adults with no considerations on sex and craniofacial forms. Each landmark was identified and expressed as the coordinate (x, y). The landmarks were classified into 3 groups. The landmarks of the first identification was T1, identification after one week was T2, and identification after one month was T3. The mean and standard deviation of identification errors between replicates were calculated according to the x and y coordinates. The errors between first identification and second identification were expressed as T2-T1(x), T2-T1(y) and those between first identification and third identification were expressed as T3-T1(x), T2-T1(y). Each was divided into conventional lateral cephalometric radiography and digital lateral cephalometric radiography. The independent t- test was used for statistical analysis of identification errors for the evaluation of reproducibility. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. Generally, the mean and standard deviation of landmark identification errors in digital lateral cephalometric radiography was smaller than those of conventional lateral cephalometric radiography. 2. Only a few landmarks showed statistically significant difference in identification error between conventional lateral cephalometric radiography and digital lateral cephalometric radiography. 3. The enhancement of image quality didn't guarantee decrease in landmark identification error and didn't affect tendency of landmark identification error.

  • Two unrecorded species (Sceptridium atrovirens and S. microphyllum), previously known only in Japan, were found in a forest in Dosun-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do for the first time in Korea. S. atrovirens was distinguished from other related species of the genus Sceptridium in Korea by having the thickest rhizome and root, irregularly crenulate or roughly serrate, and a shorter sporophore blade. The local name was newly given as 'Sup-go-sa-ri-sam' for the species, denoting the habitat. S. microphyllum was distinguished by having the smallest plant height, compact sterile blades, and partly lateritious tropophyll in winter. The local name was newly given as 'Aegi-go-sa-ri-sam' for species, meaning of a small size. To reveal the interspecific relationships within the genus Sceptridium in Korea, cladistic analysis was performed for 27 morphological characteristics. The morphological characteristics and illustrations of the two taxa, as well as photographs at the habitat, are provided with a taxonomic key to the species of Sceptridium in Korea.

  • The objective of this study is to suggest the possibility on land cover classification using hyperspectal imagery on area which includes lands and waters. After atmospheric correction as a preprocessing work was conducted on hyperspectral imagery acquired by airborne hyperspectral sensor CASI-1500, the effect of atmospheric correction to a few land cover class in before and after atmospheric correction was compared and analyzed. As the result of accuracy of land cover classification by highspectral imagery using reference data as airphoto and digital topographic map, maximum likelihood method represented overall accuracy as 67.0% and minimum distance method showed overall accuracy as 52.4%. Also product accuracy of land cover classification on road, dry field and green house, but that on river, forest, grassland showed low because the area of those was composed of complex object. Therefore, the study needs to select optimal band to classify specific object and to construct spectral library considering spectral characteristics of specific object.

  • This paper deals with floristic and taxonomic accounts of 47 taxa of the genus Trachelomonas collected from 58 waters in Korea. Of these, 19 taxa are added to the Korean Trachelomonas flora, and 4 taxa, T. curta var. reticulata, T. koreana, T. planctonica var. papillosa, and T. spina are newly recorded in the world flora of the euglenoids. Detailed description and illustrations are given for each species. Since 23 taxa are previously reported in the Korean freshwaters, a total of 70 taxa are listed up in the Korean Trachelomonas flora. Trachelomonas species are abundant and diverse in old or stagnant swamps or ponds, where is enriched with organic matters and nutrient salts. T. bacillifera, T. hispida, and T. volvocina formed water blooming in the natural swamps or fishery ponds in spring and summer.

  • All the urban planning process require land use informations, which should be obtained after through intensive investigation and accurate analysis about the past and current situations and conditions of a city. Until now, the generation of land use informations from remotely sensed imagery has had many limitation because of its spatial resolution. It is now expected that the availability of high resolution satellite imagery whose spatial resolution less than 10m will reduce these limitations. For the purpose of urban growth monitoring we must first establish a urban land use classification nomenclature. In this study, we would like to establish a land use nomenclature for land use classification using remotely sensed data, especially using KOMPSAT EOC imagery.

  • Given that the Korean genus Elymus L. (Poaceae) is often confused with Agropyron Gaertn., the categories and characteristics of Elymus s.l. have been reviewed morphologically. Two unrecorded taxa of Elymus, E. humidus (Ohwi & Sakam.) T. Osada and E. shandongensis B. Salomon, not previously recorded in Korean flora to date, we report here as an unrecorded species based on samples collected from Chungcheongbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeollanam-do, and Jeollabuk-do. E. humidus is distinguished from other taxa in terms of its habitat around riversides, erect inflorescences, spikelets appressed to rachides of inflorescence, and new individuals asexually propagated at the lower nodes of aerial stems. E. shandongensis is similar to E. tsukushiensis var. transiens (Hack.) H. Osada but is distinguished by the flowering time, slightly curved inflorescences, number of veins of the glumes, and spikelets appressed to the rachides. Descriptions of the two unrecorded Korean taxa, photographs, and keys to neighboring taxa are presented.
