Design of e-Science Gateway for Computational Chemistry (e-Science 기반 계산화학 교육환경(e-Chem) 설계)

  • 요즘 들어 컴퓨터 처리 능력의 향상에 따라 사이버인프라스트럭처(Cyberinfrastructure)를 이용하는 계산과학이 주목을 받고 있다. 그 중에서도 대용량 데이터의 복잡한 계산과 시뮬레이션을 동반하는 계산화학 연구 분야에서의 컴퓨터 활용은 매우 중요하다. 계산화학을 간단하게 설명하자면 컴퓨터를 이용한 계산을 통하여 이론 화학의 문제를 다루는 화학의 한 분야라고 말할 수 있다. 계산화학 분야의 연구를 위하여 고성능 컴퓨터와 데이터를 처리, 분석하는 계산화학 도구는 이론연구자 및 실험연구자 모두에게 있어 필수적인 요소이다. 더불어 계산화학 연구자간의 협업과 원격지에 있는 사이버인프라스트럭처 자원의 활용을 위해 e-Science 환경에서의 연구 및 교육 환경이 개발되어야 한다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)이 보유 및 운영하고 있는 사이버인프라스트럭처(고성능 컴퓨터, 초고속 네트워크)를 기반으로 컴퓨터에 익숙하지 않은 계산화학 관련 연구자 및 전공자들이 인터넷 상에서 계산화학 분야 교육을 받을 수 있는 e-Science 기반 계산화학 교육을 위한 환경을 설계하고자 한다. 이를 위해 1) 세계적으로 유명한 GridChem, CICC, NBCR 웹사이트를 이용하여 발표된 논문을 분석하였으며, 2) 분석된 결과를 가지고 주로 사용되는 계산화학 도구의 통계를 산출하여, 3) 이를 바탕으로 KISTI 사이버인프라스트럭처를 활용한 e-Science 기반 계산화학 교육 환경(e-Chem)을 설계하였다.

  • Cyber attacks on aircraft and aeronautical networks are not much different from cyber attacks commonly found in the ground industry. Air traffic management infrastructure is being transformed into a digital infrastructure to secure air traffic. A wide variety of communication environments, information and communications, navigation, surveillance and inflight entertainment systems are increasingly threatening the threat posed by cyber terrorism threats. The emergence of unmanned aircraft systems also poses an uncontrollable risk with cyber terrorism. We have analyzed cyber security standards and response strategies in developed countries by recognizing the vulnerability of cyber threats to aircraft systems and aviation infrastructure in next generation data network systems. We discussed comprehensive measures for cybersecurity policies to consider in the domestic aviation environment, and discussed the concept of security environment and quick response strategies.

  • This study purposes to suggest a next generation research and education environment which is possible by the linkage of two sectors based on cyberinfrastructure. It is to design a new research-education linkage system which can apply the results of R&D to the higher education in natural science and engineering areas. literatures were reviewed on new paradigms of R&D triggered by the advent of cyberinfrastrcuture. A couple of overseas and domestic cases of such paradigm were introduced. With the backgrounds of case studies and theoretical models, a new research-education linkage environment system was suggested. Specially e-AIRS system was introduced as an example of new model in Korea. In addition, some policy issues were discussed as related to the successful promotion of such programs.

  • 최근 들어 정보기술의 발전으로 인해 타 연구 분야와 정보기술을 접목하여 새로운 연구를 수행하려는 IT 융합 연구의 비중이 커지고 있다. 지구환경 보호를 위해서 국내외 환경 및 생태학 분야에서도 정보기술을 기반으로 한 연구가 많이 수행되고 있다. 하나의 예로 미국 위스콘신대학교를 중심으로 정보기술자와 생태학자가 협력하여 미국, 뉴질랜드, 대만 등의 호수와 하천의 생태학적 관측 자료를 수집하여 웹기반으로 연구자에게 제공하는 GLEON(Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network) 연구 사업이 진행되고 있다. 국내에서도 강원대학교에서 소양호와 의암호 등지에 센서를 설치하여 고해상도 모니터링을 시도한 사례가 있었다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 하천 및 호수에 설치된 센서에서 수집되는 다량의 데이터를 처리하여 환경 및 생태학자들이 활용 가능하도록 한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)이 보유한 사이버인프라스트럭처를 기반으로 환경.생태분야 e-Science 게이트웨이를 설계하고자 한다. 이를 위해 1) GLEON 등의 해외 관련 사이트를 조사하였으며, 2) 강원대학교에서 설치하여 운영 중인 소양호, 의암호 등에서 센서 관측 데이터를 수집하고, 3) 수집된 데이터를 처리하기 위한 메타데이터와 데이터베이스 스키마를 설계하고, 4) 환경.생태학자들이 연구에 활용 가능하도록 웹 기반 e-Science 게이트웨이인 KLEON(Korean Lake Ecological Observatory Network)을 설계하였다.

  • Recently, a new theoretical and methodological approach for computational science is becoming more and more popular for analyzing and solving scientific problems in various scientific disciplines and applied research. Computational science is a field of study concerned with constructing mathematical models and quantitative analysis techniques and using large computing resources to solve the problems which are difficult to approach in a physical experimentally. In this paper, we present R&D of EDISON open integration platform that allows anyone like professors, researchers, industrial workers, students etc to upload their advanced research result such as simulation SW to use and share based on the cyber infrastructure of supercomputer and network. EDISON platform, which consists of 3 tiers (EDISON application framework, EDISON middleware, and EDISON infra resources) provides Web portal for education and research in 5 areas (CFD, Chemistry, Physics, Structural Dynamics, Computational Design) and user service.

  • Computational science is a field of study concerned with constructing mathematical models and quantitative analysis techniques and using large computing resources to solve the problems which are difficult to approach in a physical experimentally. Recently, a new web-based simulation environment for computational science is becoming more and more popular for supporting multi-user access without restriction of space or time, however, to develop web-based simulation applications, the researchers performed their works too much difficulty. In this paper, we present automated web interface generation tool that allows applied researchers to concentrate on advanced research in their scientific disciplines such as Chemistry, Physics, Structural Dynamics.

  • As computer technology continues to evolve, the Computational Sciences utilized in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Life Sciences have been attracting more attention. In Korea, to compensate for the drawbacks in Computational Science, students and researchers have been using the EDISON platform. The EDISON platform provides a web portal service for education and research and an environment for addressing complex issues involving five fields, e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Nanophysics, Computational Chemistry, Structural Dynamics, and Computational Design. As the platform and user scale increase beyond service provision, the need for efficient operation of its currently running data management system is on the rise. In this study, we resolve the data synchronization issues between the existing EDISON platform and web portal. As the EDISON platform is integrated with the web portal, a file management service is implemented to integrate the management of user data and files, which ultimately improves the overall efficiency of file management.
