The Relation of the Awareness of Teacher Librarians about the Performance-Based Pay System and Their Job Satisfaction (사서교사의 교원 성과급제에 대한 인식과 직무만족과의 관계)

  • This study is to analyze teacher librarians' awareness about the performance-based pay system, their job satisfaction and the relationship between the two in an attempt to help make the pay system serve as catalyst in creating a positive competitive climate in the teacher community and boosting the qualifications of teacher librarian. As a result, the teacher librarians' grades were 4.1% in S, 27.5% in A, 62.5% in B, and 5.9% in the exception of incentive. The teacher librarians' awareness of the performance-based pay system level was only 2.15 point out of 7, and their job satisfaction level was 4.60 out of 7. The teacher librarians' were more satisfied with performance-based pay, participation, fairness of evaluation criteria, fairness of evaluation process and results. In conclusion, higher awareness of the teacher librarians' performance incentives showed higher job satisfaction. And we might be able to suggest the improvement plan for teacher librarian evaluation in teacher performance system.

Analytical Study on the Job Characteristics and Job Satisfaction of Administrators in Small Libraries (작은도서관 운영자의 직무특성과 직무만족도에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to investigate the job characteristics and the job satisfaction of the administrators in small libraries. Also, it is to catch individual differences between the administrators and provide the preliminary data which is helpful to the operation of organizations and offer of information service with selection, supplement of administrators in small libraries and employment placement which is regarding individual characteristics that perceive specific job, and the job satisfaction. As a result, individual characteristics, such as marital status, gender, and age, don't affect the job characteristics, but certificates, and formation of employment influences meaningfully to the job characteristics. It convinced that the individual characteristics, such as marital status, age, and formation of employment, influence to the job satisfaction.

A Study on Job Satisfaction Level of Employees in Special Libraries by Institutional Characteristics and Personal Backgrounds (기관특성과 개인환경에 따른 전문도서관 직원의 직무만족도 연구)

  • This study aims to evaluate job satisfaction level of employees working at special libraries by analyzing their affiliated institution and personal backgrounds. Results indicated that the job satisfaction level in private institutions was higher for 'remuneration', 'promotion', and 'overall satisfaction' in comparison to public counterparts. Also, employees working at institutions with independent libraries had higher level of satisfaction for 'work itself', 'remuneration' and 'co-workers' in comparison to those working in non-independent libraries. In terms of employment status, satisfaction level for 'remuneration' and 'promotion' was high among permanent employees, whereas 'superior and supervisor' was relatively higher among temporary employees. In terms of position, supervisors had higher level of satisfaction for 'remuneration', 'job system', 'promotion' and 'overall satisfaction' in comparison to non-supervisors. Employees with degrees in library and information science had higher level of satisfaction for 'work itself', 'job system', 'promotion' and 'institutional environment' in comparison to non-majors. This study clarified desires and emotions of employees working at special libraries and eliminated obstacles to higher job satisfaction. These findings may have implications for the improvement of work efficiency in libraries.

An Analysis on Job Satisfaction & Disposition of Human Resources for Effective Administration in Korean School Libraries (효과적인 학교도서관 경영을 위한 인적자원의 배치 현황 및 직무만족도 분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the job satisfaction of school library employees with independent variables. and to discern the variables that cause the greatest impact on job satisfaction. The study's 254 questionaries were collected from December 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006 from 327 school library employees. In this study, it is proved that there are differences between the job satisfaction of school library employees and independent variables: gender, the level of school library, length of service. and employment style. Tips for the inherent roles of school library media center were Provided based on inadequacies and other findings revealed through this study.

A Case Study on the Operation of the Qualification Training Curriculum for Level 1 Librarian Teachers (사서교사 1급 자격연수 교육과정 운영 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the actual state of the curriculum on how qualification training is organized and operated based on the operation case of the K University Education and Training Institute, which operated librarian teacher (level 1) qualification training was held during the summer vacation of 2021. As a result of the study, a total of 111 librarians participated in the actual qualification training, of which 50 librarian teachers (4 males, 46 females) were from elementary schools, 24 (4 males, 20 females) from middle schools, and 37 (5 males, 32 females) from high schools. In addition, the curriculum for qualification training consisted of core competencies and subjects that met the scope of the job of the 'learner strength development' and the 'librarian role statement', and the satisfaction ratio of the 111 librarian teachers who participated in the qualification training averaged 4.76 out of 5. Overall, the satisfaction was high, but it was suggested on the areas that were either the lowest or lower than average.

Rethinking Catalogers' Professionalism (정리사서 전문성 재고에 관한 연구)

  • The study aims at identifying catalogers' perception of competencies in cataloging. The study focuses on cataloging and classification knowledge, library systems, materials, metadata formats, authority control, foreign language, computer skills, and interdependence and personal skills. It discusses the gap between previous studies and catalogers' perceptions of competencies required for the job. It provides implications for cataloging education. It has values in that the study as an exploratory study urges continuous studies to identify how catalogers' perceptions are changed according to information environment. It will be a base to develop job descriptions for catalogers.

A Study on Measuring the Effects of Continuing Education of Librarian Teachers Using Kirkpatrick Education Model (Kirkpatrick 평가모델을 활용한 사서교사 계속교육 효과 측정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to systematically measure the effectiveness of continuous education of librarians using the Kirkpatrick education evaluation model. A three-stage educational evaluation was conducted on 136 librarian teachers who participated in the 『Qualification training for librarian teacher level 1』 in the summer of 2022. The first stage was a satisfaction survey on the overall education, and the second and third stages were investigated before and after education, and the actual effect of education was measured by pre-post difference analysis. The second stage is learning evaluation, and the third stage is job competency improvement evaluation. As a result of the study, high measurement scores were calculated at all stages, and the before and after effect of education was statistically significant in the second stage of learning evaluation. In the third stage of the job competency improvement evaluation, the score fell after education, but it was not statistically significant. Significant results were derived from the second stage of evaluation, and future studies suggested that the evaluation model should be supplemented and that a balanced curriculum should be designed to produce valid results.

A Study on Analysis of Importance-Performance on Teacher Librarians' Competencies (사서교사 직무 역량에 대한 중요도·만족도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze priorities of competencies and to find the direction of development of teacher librarian training and retraining program. A total of 238 subjects were used for the final analysis. They were analayzed using IPA, Borich's needs analysis and the Locus for Focus model. As a result, First, teacher librarians perceived that the importance and performance of teacher and manager competency were higher than information specialist and cooperative leader. Second, they needed competencies of data-science, coding, Internet of Things in the field of information specialist as changing educational environment. Third, they needed competencies of information ethics, copyright instruction, and digital and media literacy education in the field of teacher. Fourth, they needed competencies of facility designing for future education, online and offline school library marketing skills, and establishment of makerspaces and learning commons in the field of ibrary manager. Fifth, they needed competencies of library based instruction, library cooperative instruction, and building a collection related to subject in the field of cooperative leader. Sixth, the highest required competency for teacher librarians was suggested for teacher librarians' role area.

A Study on the Effect of Reading Activities on Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment of Public Library Employees (공공도서관 직원의 독서활동이 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of reading activity of employees in public libraries on their job satisfaction and organizational commitment which was suggested by previous studies proving the relationship among the variables in the business area. The results from the survey indicate that there were significant differences in job satisfaction, satisfaction with human relationship, satisfaction of self-realization, affective commitment, and continuance commitment in terms of the frequency of participation in a book club. Additionally, the number of employees' reading books and hours spent for reading significantly influenced their job satisfaction and the hours spent for reading significantly influenced affective commitment. It was also found that participation continuity for a book club influenced on satisfaction level of social recognition, continuance commitment, and normative commitment. Job satisfaction level had a complete mediation effect between reading hours and affective commitment, and satisfaction from social recognition had a complete mediation effect between participation continuity in a reading meeting, continuance commitment, and normative commitment. Based on these results, this study suggests a plan for constructing a good environment for employees to read through introducing a reading management as follows. Firstly, managers of public libraries need to take an active interest in reading management and various programs to encourage employees to read need to be provided. Secondly, public libraries are required to encourage their employees' participation in book clubs and support them, so that the employees are able to participate in the book club consistently. Finally, institution-level consistent motivation is needed for an active reading activity.

A Study on the Employment Status and Treatment of Temporary Librarians in the School Libraries (학교도서관 비정규직 사서의 고용실태와 처우개선 방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the temporary librarians' employment status that have been placed in over 80% of the school libraries and deduce the issues of their job status for proposing some solutions to improve their job performance. To achieve the above research purposed in this study, the related literature was reviewed and analyzed and an interview was conducted with the librarians in the Chungbuk province and a survey was distributed in the same province. As a result, first, a high correlation was found between the total satisfaction and the factors as follows; 'working satisfaction', 'employment conditions', 'working environment', 'interpersonal relations' etc. In the difference verification based on the satisfaction in accordance with the employment status, a difference of satisfaction was found between the pre and post analyses of the unlimited contractions. Second, the most overall review of the temporary librarians' job performances in relation to the 'reading and lending performances was conducted, regardless of the librarian certification. Third, the temporary librarians working at the school libraries responded that 'the manpower developer' was the most difficult consideration in relation to their employment statuses. And, asked about the solutions for the improvement of their job conditions, most of the librarians wanted their job security.
