Tactical Beamforming for Anti-Jamming Under Limited Feedback (제한된 피드백 상황에서의 항재밍을 위한 전략적 빔형성)

  • Array beamforming for anti-jamming means that jamming signals are superposed destructively, while superposing information signals constructively at a receiver. However, according to channel state variation, the anti-jamming performance of the beamforming can be degraded because of large beamwidth of the sidelobe and lower selectivity of the mainlobe. To mitigate this problem, we introduce a beamformed decoy signal which uses frequency band distinguished from the information signal to make the jammer concentrate its jamming power to a wrong target under limited feedback. In this paper, we show that the performance of the proposed scheme can approach that of optimal one with perfect feedback.

  • Downlink beamforming is very important in recent mobile communications which requires wireless internet, VOD(Video-On-Demand), multimedia services. This paper addresses and analyzes the essential considerations fur downlink beamforming of smart antenna system to provide wanted characteristics. Major considerations in this paper are HPA power allocation for downlink beamforming, received power at mobile terminal, concept and performance of auxiliary pilot channel, importance and moth of array calibration, and throughput comparison of downlink and uplink. All above mentioned items are investigated in this paper.

  • In this paper, the new multi-beamforming is proposed for Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Multicarrier-Code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) systems to overcome the decrease of performance due to multiuser interference and multiple-antenna interference. Installing the number of multi-beamformer which is equal to the number of multi-transmitter antennas and exploiting the proposed approach at the receiver of MIMO MC-CDMA, the multi-beams are formed toward each multi-antenna of desired user and null beam are formed to other interference. Therefore, the performance of MIMO MC-CDMA system is improved as removing the interference signal. BER performance improvement is investigated through computer simulation by the proposed approach to MIMO MC-CDMA system.

  • The passive ranging estimation techniques using a focused beamformer have been studied under the water. It is well known that the passive ranging estimation method using a focused beamformer is excellently evaluated. Among these, the passive ranging sonar is known to have a good performance under low signal-to-noise. ratio. However, its performance is degraded in multi-source environments. In this paper, we proposed the technique using dual focused beamformers to estimate the range. And when the sampling frequency is low, it is very difficult to steer the focused beam to the desired direction, as a result of this, the low performance occurs because of a distorted beam pattern. In this paper, we study the effect of sampling rate on passive ranging by using focused beamformer. And we verified the performance of the proposed method via computer simulation.

  • 수중 음향 탐지 시스템에서 빔 형성 기법은 오랫동안 많은 연구자들에 의해 연구되어 왔다. 빔 형성 기법은 탐지성능에 직결되기 때문에 최적의 빔 설계는 중요한 문제가 된다. 그리고 최적의 빔 형성기를 구현하기 위해서는 개별 센서에 대한 가중회로의 구성이 필수적이며, 가중회로를 구성하기 위해서는 개별 센서에 대한 등가회로 모델링과 정합회로 설계가 필수적이다. 이전의 연구에서는 센서 등가회로 모델링 Tool과 정합회로 디자인 Tool 각각의 구성과 사용방법에 대해서 소개하였다. 이 두 가지 Tool을 모두 이용하여 센서 등가회로 및 정합회로를 모델링하였고, 이를 바탕으로 실제 가중회로를 구현하였다. 가중회로는 정합회로와 트랜스포머로 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 이와같이 구성된 가중회로와 스케일 모델에 맞게 제작된 스피커 어레이를 이용하여 빔형성 실험을 하였으며, 그 결과를 이론치와 비교하였다. 이것을 바탕으로 BeamCAD, 센서 등가회로 모델링 Tool 그리고 정합회로 디자인 Tool로 이루어진 소나 센서 디자인 Tool의 타당성을 검증하였다.

Aerodynamic Noise Characteristics of High-speed Trains by the Beamforming Method (빔형성 기법을 이용한 고속철도차량의 공력소음특성 도출 연구)

  • In this paper, aerodynamic noise characteristics of high-speed trains were deduced from the beamforming method. First, pass-by noise of high-speed trains was measured by a microphone array system. This measurement suggested that the majority of the aerodynamic noise produced came from the bogie area, the pantograph and its cover, and inter-coach gaps. Then, beampower outputs of a position in high-speed trains were obtained from the beamforming method. By Fourier transform, sound characteristics of the position in the frequency domain were deduced from the beamforming power spectrum. From this study, aerodynamic noise characteristics from the major sources of high-speed trains were drawn.

  • 상대론적 전자빔 발생장치(300kV, 40kA, 60ns)를 통하여 발생하는 전자빔은 진공 중에서 공간전하한계전류값을 갖게 되어 진행이 어렵다. 이런 전자빔의 전파특성을 향상시키기 위하여 여러 가지 방법들이 실험되어졌다. 본 실험실에서 수행한 실험은 전자빔의 진행해나가는 도파관 속에 국부적인 plasma channel을 형성시키고 이에 따른 전자빔의 전파율의 향상을 유도하였다. 이때 형성되는 높은 에너지의 이온빔을 관찰하고 이온 전류밀도에 따른 전자빔의 수송효율사이의 관계를 관찰하였다. 전류밀도의 증가는 여러 가지로 응용 될 수 있다. 자유전자레이저(Free Electron Laser)는 microwave로부터 가시광선 영역을 포함해 X-ray 영역까지의 coherent radiation을 발생시킬 수 있는 개념의 장치이다. 이 장치에서 전자빔의 전류밀도는 출력되는 전자기파의 power와 직접적으로 관계하여 고출력 microwave 발생장치를 구성할 수 있다. 이번 실험에서는 일정한 국부적으로 형성된 plasma에 따른 강렬한 상대론적 전자빔의 전파효율의 향상을 관찰하였다.

Functional beamforming for high-resolution ultrasound imaging in the air with random sparse array transducer (고해상도 공기중 초음파 영상을 위한 기능성 빔형성법 적용)

  • Ultrasound in the air is widely used in industry as a measurement technique to prevent abnormalities in the machinery. Recently, the use of airborne ultrasound imaging techniques, which can find the location of abnormalities using an array transducers, is increasing. A beamforming method that uses the phase difference for each sensor is used to visualize the location of the ultrasonic sound source. We exploit a random sparse ultrasonic array and obtain beamforming power distribution on the source in a certain distance away from the array. Conventional beamforming methods inevitably have limited spatial resolution depending on the number of sensors used and the aperture size. A high-resolution ultrasound imaging technique was implemented by applying functional beamforming as a method to overcome the geometric constraints of the array. The functional beamforming method can be expressed as a generalized beam forming method mathematically, and has the advantage of being able to obtain high-resolution imaging by reducing main-lobe width and side lobes. As a result of observation through computer simulation, it was verified that the resolution of the ultrasonic source in the air was successfully increased by functional beamforming using the ultrasonic sparse array.

Study on Multibeam Forming with Improved Accuracy of Steering Angle and Sidelobe Control (높은 조향 정확도 및 부엽 제어가 가능한 다중 빔 형성 연구)

  • Herein, several multibeam forming methods that can be applied to microwave wireless power transmission are presented. Because the conventional multibeam forming methods do not consider an active element pattern(AEP), an intended beam shape will contain a steering angle error when applied to an actual system. To solve this problem, a method of considering the average of the AEP and a method of considering all the AEPs by the modified Fourier series method have been proposed. We confirmed that the proposed method reduces the error with the intended beam shape in the multibeam formation. In addition, for the side lobe level(SLL) and null control, a method of multibeam forming by applying the superposition principle to the Dolph-Tschebyscheff method is proposed. We also confirmed that SLL control can be simultaneously achieved with the multibeam formation.

Design and Implementation of FPGA Based Real-Time Adaptive Beamformer for AESA Radar Applications (능동위상배열 레이더 적용을 위한 FPGA 기반 실시간 적응 빔 형성기 설계 및 구현)

  • Adaptive beamforming algorithms have been widely used to remove interference and jamming in the phased array radar system. Advances in the field programmable gate array(FPGA) technology now make possible the real time processing of adaptive beamforming (ABF) algorithm. In this paper, the FPGA based real-time implementation method of adaptive beamforming system(beamformer) in the pre-processor module for active electronically scanned array(AESA) radar is proposed. A compact FPGA-based adaptive beamformer is developed using commercial off the shelf(COTS) FPGA board with communication via OpenVPX(Virtual Path Cross-connect) backplane. This beamformer comprises a number of high speed complex processing including QR decomposition & back substitution for matrix inversion and complex vector/matrix calculations. The implemented result shows that the adaptive beamforming patterns through FPGA correspond with results of simulation through Matlab. And also confirms the possibility of application in AESA radar due to the real time processing of ABF algorithm through FPGA.
