  • In order to investigate the effect of split application of silicate fertilizers on the rice plant, this studies, designed with two kinds of silicate material, wollastonite and high concentrated fused silicate material, and 4 types of application dates on the pot experiment without chemical control against diseases, have conducted the silica analysis of rice plant and diseased rates of plant during the all growing stages. The silica contents in rice plant with basal application were increased most highly compared with the split applications during the all growing stage, but they were all much the same between the basal and split application at the harvest. High concentrated fused silicate material was more useful to increase the silica content in rice plant than wollastonite and effect of split application of silica was dominant with this fused silicate material. The diseased leaf area by rice blast was decreased from the 50% of uncontrolled plot to 20~40% by the split application with wollastonite and to 5~15% with high concentrated fused silicate material. Also percents of deseased panicles were decreased to 20% with wollastonite and to 10% with high concentrated fused silicate material.

  • In order to develop the nutrient material for growing plants, tobacco leaf debris (T.L.D) that is a residual product of cigarette processing was carbonated at about 50% of its weight and neutralized its alkalinity by nitric and phosphoric acid. This material ($T.L.D+3N-HNO_3+1N-H_3PO_4$ (10:1:1), as a consequence, contained 4.1% of nitrogen, 2.1% of phosphte, and 6.6% of potassium in value of about pH 7. It was very effective on seedling growth to apply 1 Kg of nutrient material per 110 1 of bed soil as basic dressing because of containing not only quick-acting nitrate but also slow-releasing organo-nitrogen and sufficient potassium.

  • To elucidate the effect of the organic carbon compounds included in a separate from glutamic acid fermentation residue (G. A. F. R) on the improvement of the physico-chemical properties of soil, on a soil low in organic matter content, treated with G. A. F. R and compost, observations on the total organic matter, humic acid, fulvic acid, C. E. C. and the development of aggregates were made. From the results of the investigations it was concluded that, the organic carbon compound in the tested G. A. R. F. is more effective than compost in increasing the total organic matter, humic acid, fulvic acid and C. E. C. of soil and in enhancing the development of soil aggregates.

  • When a football field is constructed using sand medium, the fertilizer management has to be adjusted because of the low nutrient holding capacity and higher leaching rate. The objective of this study was to test the effects of slow release fertilizers on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) growth in simulated sport field rootzones with PVC pipe pots. Data of turfgrass color, uniformity, growth rate, biomass above ground, and the nitrate content in the leaching solution was collected at different growing stages and during four simulated rain fall periods. The result showed that the nutrient release rate of urea was the highest and that of controlled release nitrogen fertilizer was the lowest. Effects of the controlled release nitrogen fertilizer lasted 14 days more than other lawn fertilizers and 28 days longer than regular urea with acceptable quality levels of turf. The slow release fertilizer also restrained excessive growth of the grass, reduced the times of mowing. Slow release fertilizer used in this study reduced $NO_3$-N leaching by almost 50% at the beginning of turf establishment.

  • In order to compare the effectiveness of different phosphorus forms (pulverized as regranulized) and formulars (compound fertilizers) of fused phosphate and to compare the effectiveness of boron from different forms (straight borax, granulized with fused phosphate and included in compound fertilizer), a field experiment was conducted on a relatively fertile upland soil using soybean as a test crop. Results are summarized as following. 1. Yield of soybean was significantly higher in the plots fertilized with P when compared to check plot (no p). However, no significant differences were observed among the different forms or formulars of fused phosphate, indicating that the regranulization or formulation of compound fertilizer did not influence the effectiveness of phosphorus. 2. The application of boron, regardless of its formular, brought about higher B content in plant tissue and higher grain yield. There was a tendency that boron contained in ragranulized fused phosphate was more effective than straight borax. The results also indicated that when boron is to be included in NPK compound fertilizer, its content should be at the least 1.5% as $B_2O_3$. 3. The effectiveness of boron appeared as increased number of pod, higher B, and Ca contents in plant and the amounts of uptake of these elements by soybean. 4. The analysis of soil after the experiment indicated that different forms or formulars of fused phosphate were similarly effective in increasing the available P, Ca, and Mg contents in the soil. 5. Slight increase in available B contents in the experimental plot soils applied with boron fertilizer was observed after the trial.

  • The effect of completed mineral fertilizer on barley was investigated on ordinary upland and newly recrimed soil derived from granite, basalt and shale. 1. Yield of barley grains with application of completed meneral fertilizer 1 level varied from 100.8% to 233.1% on various soils in different parents rock, and 2 levels of the fertilizer varied from 250.1% to 309.5% on ordinary upland and newly recrimed soil derived from granite compared with control plot. But no effect on newly recrimed soil derived from basalt and shale. 2. $P_2O_5$, MgO and B contents in straw were increased, but Mn contents was decreased on all of soil. N contents in straw was decreased on the soil derived from granite, but $K_2O$ contents was increased on the soil derived from basalt and shale. 3. Relation between the yield and absorbed nutrient had related with positive correlection of 1-5%. 4. N and Mn contents in soil were decreased by application of completed mineral fertilizer, but soil pH, C.E.C. $Av-P_2O_5$, Ex-CaO, Ex-MgO and B contents were increased. Especially soil pH and C.E.C. were increased remarkably. 5. Relation between the yield and Ex-CaO and Ex-MgO contents in soil had related with positive correlation, but Mn contents had related with negative correlation.
