Design Reliability Estimation of Low Energy Exploding Foil Initiator (LEEFI형 착화장치의 설계 신뢰도 추정)

  • This paper presents a simulation-based design reliability estimation method of a low-energy exploding foil initiator (LEEFI) using a meta-model and describes the design reliability estimation results. The flyer velocity of the LEEFI is critical to initiate the explosive. Evaluation of the flyer velocity from mechanistic models in open literature requires a long computation time due to the multi-physical phenomena that generate the velocity. Moreover, the higher levels of confidence required for an initiator with high reliability incur higher computation costs. Thus, a meta-model of the flyer velocity over time was constructed in order to increase the computational efficiency for a reliable estimation. For different distributions and sigma levels of the design variables, the design reliability estimation results using the meta-model are provided. Additionally, the computational efficiency and accuracy of the estimation method are analyzed.

Implementation of Joystick for Flight Simulator using WiFi Communication

  • In this paper, we propose a WiFi-based joystick with an acceleration sensor and a vibration sensor that can be used in flight simulators and VR fields. The flight simulator is a technology belonging to the ICT and SW application field and provides a simulation environment that reproduces the aircraft environment. Existing flight simulator control devices are fixed to a specific device and the user's activity area is limited. In this paper, a 3D space manipulation device was implemented for the user's free use of space. In addition, the proposed control device is designed as a WiFi communication board and display that displays information and performs 3-axis sensing for accurate and sophisticated control compared to existing VR equipment controllers. And the applicability was confirmed by implementing a Unity-based virtual environment. As a result of the implementation device verification, it was confirmed that the control device operates normally through the communication interface, It was confirmed that the sensing values in the game and the sensing values measured on the implemented board matched each other. The results of this study can be used for VR and various metaverse related contents in addition to flight simulators.

The Study on Antenna Performancet Test for Surion Radio Installation and Optimal Positioning (수리온 통신 안테나 장착 및 최적위치 선정을 위한 안테나 성능시험에 관한 연구)

  • Surion is required to install radios (U/VHF-AM, VHF-FM) capable of omni-directional communication. Therefore, this paper demonstrates the antenna performance test for the installation of the Surion communication antenna and the selection of optimal location. A simulation pattern analysis was performed employing the antenna, and a coupling test was performed by creating a new evaluation criterion. In addition, the results of the pattern flight test conducted at the previously suggested 1:20 turn and separation distance ratio were observed to be normal. However, the occurrence of voice cutoff was noted in the long-distance flight test. Therefore, in this paper, 1:300 (15 NM) is proposed as a new optimal ratio for predicting the long-distance flight test results in advance. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation criteria was verified through long-distance flight tests. Consequently, it is expected to reduce the development schedule and cost by reducing the trial and error of the performance test for the Surion model. Also, the results of this study are expected to be used as standards for the installation of communication antenna and quality tests for other helicopters.

Optimum Placement and Shape of UHF Monopole Antenna Mounted on UAV (무인항공기에 장착된 UHF 모노폴 안테나의 최적 위치 및 형상)

  • In this paper, the optimum placement and shape of UHF antenna on the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are analyzed by using the electromagnetic (EM) simulation on the various locations. The FEKO was used for the EM-simulation. In order to reduce the complexity of simulation and minimize the runtime and memory usage, the composite aircraft structure is simplified as the PEC model excluding the radome structure. The simulation was performed on the wing and ventral fin of UAV, and the antenna shape used the monopole, dipole, and bent monopole antennas. When the monopole antenna is mounted under the wing, two antennas need to be mounted under the right and left wings, and those antennas have to be switched as the direction of UAV wing to the line of sight (LOS) data-link (DL) ground antenna. In the case of mounting under the ventral fin, one antenna can be used regardless of the direction of UAV wing to the LOS DL ground antenna. Also, the antenna gain is improved by the blockage reduction. The antenna gain is further improved by using the bent monopole antenna. The optimum solution of UHF antenna placement and shape on UAV is to mount the bent monopole antenna under the ventral fin.

  • In this paper, we developed the algorithm to control longitudinal and lateral motion of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) with Infrared heat sensors and GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver. UAV was controlled to be flown horizontally and also turned coordinately maintaining the constant altitude. Accomplishing the flight test of UAV sevral times, we were able to develope low price controller to control bank angle for lateral motion, and also pitch angle and altitude for longitudinal motion simultaneously.

  • A design methodology of the redundancy management for a duplex FBW flight control system is introduced. A statistical analysis is applied to determine two design parameters in CCM(Cross Channel Monitor), threshold and persistence count. An analytic redundancy, which is implemented using a Kalman filtering algorithm is considered. The application of an analytic redundancy to the FCS design of the smart UAV has several advantages of increasing the aircraft's survivability and breaking the tie-condition for a duplex FCS. All the redundancy management algorithms are verified through the numeric simulation for the flight dynamics of the XV-15 tilt rotor.

  • The approach and landing phase of a re-entry vehicle is composed of Steep Glideslope phase, Circular Flare phase, Flare Maneuver phase. The trajectory planning algorithm with geometric parameters is studied in this paper for on-board trajectory planning. This algorithm generate reference trajectory rapidly considering safe landing of re-entry vehicle. In this paper, the Mamdani Fuzzy PD type controller for longitudinal and lateral control is designed which has robustness of nonlinear system. In addition, the simulation is performed including initial downrange and crossrange errors, and the results shows that the proposed fuzzy logic controller has good performance.

The Coordinate Conversion for Flight Dynamics Simulation (비행 운동 시뮬레이션을 위한 좌표계 변환)

  • A flight simulator is composed of engine, navigation systems and instrument modules. However, two problems exist here. First, the coordinate of each independent module is not same. To solve this problem, we design a method that mutual coordinates are capable of transformation each other. Second, the distance and bearing between two points on the earth are computed in a sphere shape using the spherical trigonometry. However, the computing time is very severe. In this paper, we project the sphere into the planar to reduce the computing time. An experimental result shows that the performance of the proposed method is excellent to both distance and bearing calculations in close region. Also, the computing time is reduced from $4.95{\times}10^{-4}$ seconds to $1.648{\times}10^{-4}$ seconds.

  • In this paper, a guidance law applicable to aircraft automatic landing is proposed and its performance is compared with the conventional ILS-type landing approach. The concept of miss distance, which is commonly used in the missile guidance laws, and Lyapunov stability are effectively combined to obtain the landing guidance law. The new landing guidance law is integrated into the existing controller and is applied to the landing approach and flare phases of landing procedure. Numerical simulation results show that the new landing guidance law is a viable alternative to the conventional strategies that directly control the longitudinal deviation or altitude.

  • When control surface failure occurs, it is conventional to correct a current control or to transform to other control. In this paper, instead of adopting a conventional way, a reconfiguration method which compensate the failure with alternative control surface deflection, depending on the level of failure, by using neural network and PCH(Pseudo-Control Hedging). The Conroller is designed of inner-loop(SCAS : Stability Command Augmentation System) with DMI(Dynamic Model Inversion) and outer-loop with Y axis acceleration feedback for a coordinate turn. Additionally, double PCH method was adopted to prevent actuator saturation and input command was generated to compensate for failure. At the end, The feasibility of the method is validated with randomly selected failure scenarios.
