The power measurement of main propulsion system on the new vessels can be classified with the direct method acquired from the shaft's strain using strain gauge and the indirect method converted and summed from all of cylinders combustion pressure using mechanical or electrical pickup device during the sea trial. This power is fluctuated by external factors which was influenced by various sea motions with long time interval and by internal factors which was influenced by varying torques of torsional vibration and bending moment, due to mis-aligned shaft and whirling vibration with short time interval. In this paper, the statistical analysis method for the shaft power measurement and assessment using strain gauge in marine vessels are introduced. And these are identified by the low speed two stroke diesel engine model and four stroke medium speed diesel engine model including reduction gear.

Stiffened plate structure, which is generally used in the various structural design to develope the load carrying capacity, is classified in two groups; one is the plate stiffened with stiffeners, the other is corrugated plate. In the studies on those structures, the studies on the stiffened plates with stiffeners have been much studied with both quantities and qualities according to requirements of the minimum-weight structural design and the development in many industrial fields, especially automobile, ship and aerospace fields, but the studies on the corrugated plates are undeveloped in comparison with the stiffened plates, and also the analytical stiffness on the corrugated plates remains as the imperfect. In the present studies, the analytical method on the stiffness of corrugated plates made by folding is proposed, and the stiffness equation of corrugated plates with some angle is derived and generalized. The purpose of the present study is to contribute to the design of corrugated plates and to determine the optimum aspect ratio for parameters that decide the aspect of corrugated plates.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the static behavior of a horizontally curved prestressed concrete (PSC) girder. A 30m long full-scale curved PSC girder with 80.0m radius is fabricated by a portable curved form system. Deflections and concrete strains at the middle of span were measured. The obtained experimental results have been compared to those from F.E.A. analysis. When a initial crack developed, the applied load was 1.3 times the service design load and the vertical deflection at the middle of span satisfied the requirement for a live load state according to the Korea Bridge Design Specifications (2010). Also, the ductility of the full scale specimen satisfied the limit in the Specifications (2010). To verify the experimental results, a numerical F.E. analysis was carried and confirmed that the data were similar with results from the test above. The horizontally curved PSC girder fabricated on site was found to have enough strength for safety under and after construction.

This study aims to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet under a periodic forced vibration. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were employed. A high-speed camera was used to capture the various deformation characteristics of a droplet-mode shape, detachment, separated secondary droplet, and skewed deformation. The comparison between the theoretical and the experimental approaches shows a ~10% discrepancy in the prediction of the resonance frequency, which appears to be caused by the effect of contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and experimental uncertainty. Owing to contact-line pinning and smaller amplitude, the droplet shape becomes symmetric and the size of each lobe at the resonance frequency exceeds that at the neighbor, which is out of resonance.

The aeroelastic stability analysis of a soft-in-plane, composite hingeless rotor blade in hover and in forward flight has been performed by combining the mixed beam method and the aeroelastic analysis system that is based on a moderate deflection beam approach. The aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the blade are obtained using the Leishman-Beddoes unsteady aerodynamic model. Hamilton's principle is used to derive the governing equations of composite helicopter blades undergoing extension, lag and flap bending, and torsion deflections. The influence of key structural modeling issues on the aeroelastic stability behavior of helicopter blades is studied. The issues include the shell wall thickness, elastic couplings and the correct treatment of constitutive assumptions in the section wall of the blade. It is found that the structural modeling effects are largely dependent on the layup geometries adopted in the section of the blade and these affect on the stability behavior in a large scale.

This research is concerned with the dynamic modeling of the multi-purpose satellite with deployable solar arrays equipped with strain energy hinges(SEH). To this end, we proposed the use of the equivalent torsional spring for the SEH and derived the equations of motion assuming that the satellite and solar arrays are being rigid. We also considered the effect of the support string for the ground experiment model, which has been observed as a critical factor affecting the deployment in the ground experiments. From the numerical simulation results, it is found that solar arrays are deployed in a similar pattern but the hub motions are different because of the support strings. It was concluded that the non-gravity deployment of the solar arrays can be approximately simulated by the ground experimental facility. The effects of the support string are also investigated by varying the length of the string. It was found that the current length of the string is adequate for the ground experiment. Ground experimental results will follow.

This paper presented the theory related to a two dimensional linear cross-sectional analysis, recovery relationship and a one-dimensional nonlinear beam analysis for composite beam with initial twist and high aspect ratio. Using VABS including related theory, preceding research data of the composite wing structure has been modeled and compared. Cross-sectional analysis was performed and 1-D beam was modeled at cutting point including all the details of real geometry and material. The 3-D strain distribution and margin of safety at recovery point was calculated based on the global behavior of the 1-D beam analysis and visualize numerical results.

This paper contains the test method to obtain aerodynamic hinge moments acting on the control surface of air vehicle wing. During the flight, hinge moments make difference between actual control surface angle and control angle which is measured by sensor of actuator. The hinge moments can be obtained by using this difference. Static ground load test and calibration test were conducted to obtain torsional stiffness of control surface actuation system. This results are used to calculate hinge moments. In addition, the mechanical errors of actuation system such as slip angle of mounting point and backlash could be estimated. Using flight test results, this experimental measurement method of hinge moment acting on control surface is conducted. The results of this method are similar to those of numerical simulation method, and the validity of this method is proved.

In this work, the effect of composite couplings on hub loads of a hingeless rotor in forward flight is investigated. The hingeless composite rotor blade is idealized as a laminated thin-walled box-beam. The nonclassical effects such as transverse shear, torsional warping are considered in the structural formulation. The nonlinear differential equations of motion are obtained by applying Hamilton's principle. The blade response and hub loads are calculated using a finite element formulation in space and time. The aerodynamic forces acting on the blade are calculated by quasi-steady strip theory. The theory includes the effects of reversed flow and compressibility. The magnitude of elastic couplings obtained by MSC/NASTRAN is compared with the classical pitch-flap $({\delta}3)$ or $pitch-lag({\alpha}1)$ coupling. It is found that the elastic couplings have a substantial effect on the behavior of $N_b/rev$ hub loads. Nearly 10 to 40% of hub loads is reduced by appropriately tailoring the fiber orientation angles in the laminae of the composite blade.
Among several types of element tests to predict soil behalf.iota in a laboratory, the torsion shear apparatus, in which the directions of principal stresses could be rotated during shearing, wra explained. In this study, this torsion shear apparatus was improved so as to be used in tests on clay specimens . And some undrained torsion shear tests u.ere performed on remolded specimens of Ko-consolidated clay to investigate the influence of reorientation of the principal stress directions on the stress-strain behavior The soil behavior by the torsion shear apparatus without torque was compared It.ith that by the conventional triaxial compression tests . The stress path, provided by both vertical loads and torque during torsion shear tests, has much effect on the stress-strain behavior, the pore pressure and the effective principal stress ratio . The rotation angle of the principal stress and the b-value were gradually increased with increasing shear strain, but converged to the values at failure.
