Due to recent climate change, big typhoon and heavy rainfall happen frequently not only in Korea but also all over the world. It leads to collapse of levee by extraordinary flood. It lead to collapse of levees by extraordinary flood. These natural disasters give the life and property damages in near region. In this study, it was performed that a stability in levee using seepage analysis. It has been evaluated hydraulic gradient of exit zone according to variations in levee crest width, gradient. As a result, it showed that hydraulic gradient of exit zone was decreased due to increase of levee crest width and gradient, and it was evaluated that vertical hydraulic gradient was decreased than that of the horizontal hydraulic gradient.

The present paper studies the effect of the slope gradient of a fully permeable submerged breakwater using a newly developed numerical model that is able to consider the flow through a porous midium with inertial, laminar and turbulent resistance terms, i.e. simulate directly WAve-Structure (submerged breakwater)-Sand seabed interaction and can determine the eddy viscosity with LES turbulence model in 2-Dimensional wave field (LES-WASS-2D). The developed model was validated through the comparison with an existing experimental data, and further used for various numerical experiments in oder to investigate the complicated hydrodynamics on the varying slope gradient of permeable submerged breakwater. We found an acceptable phenomenon, as we expect intuitively, that reflection and transmission coefficients decrease simultaneously as slope gradient decrease. In addition, the breaking point, the circulation flow and mean vorticity around a submerged breakwater are throughly discussed.
A standard slope stability analysis was undertaken for new railway sections, based on the slope of sedimentary rock layers and filling material (sand), to evaluate the stability of the cut-off slope in the section passing through a zone of sedimentary rock. The stability analysis was undertaken during the dry and rainy seasons, accounting for earthquake occurrence, based on slope design criteria. It was found that if the slope of the sedimentary rock formation was <10°, the effect on the safety rate of the cut-off slope was insignificant. Furthermore, a slope relief of 1:1.0 or more should be applied with slopes of 10~20°, and 1:1.2 or more with >20°. This study provides an important reference for evaluation of slope stability when railway and road construction is undertaken in areas of sedimentary rock.
In the design of slopes during rainfall, the groundwater level is assumed to be located at the ground surface, based on the change in characteristics of rainfall. In addition, stability investigations are performed for large cut slopes in the design of slopes while standard inclinations specified in the design criteria are applied for the slopes that stability investigations are not performed. In spite of the strengthened criteria of groundwater location, slope failures continuously occur during heavy rainfall, regardless of magnitude of slopes. In order to investigate the cause of the failures, stability investigations have been performed on standard inclination of slopes suggested in the design criteria for both dry and rainfall cases by ground condition in this research. Despite that standard inclination of slopes specified in the design criteria should be stable for both dry and rainfall cases, the results show that standard factor of safety has not been obtained in many cases; more than 50% of total cases for dry cases and more than 65% of total cases for rainfall case. Based on the results, this paper indicates the problems in the current design criteria and proposes the plans for establishment of countermeasure.
Slope stability is affected by duration of precipitation, probable rainfall intensity, unsaturated soil property, and soil strength. The recent analyses of slope stability tend to include unsaturated analysis based on infiltration properties of soil, while researches of unsaturated soil slope tend to include the analysis of deformation and stress distribution of soil over time. However, infiltration property of unsaturated soil slope depends not only on intensity or duration of precipitation, but also on relief and surface condition, which is not considered in status quo. This research uses hydrologic model parameters of soil in order to consider effects of inclination on filtration, and carries out analysis of unsaturated soil slope to confirm the effects according to slope inclination and surface condition. In conclusion, using slope stability analysis, the need to consider infiltration rate according to inclination and surface condition was confirmed even under the same precipitation conditions.
This study was carried out to assess the characteristics of gabion on road cut-slopes, and analyze the scenic view preference for the gabion in Korea. 97 gabion sites from road cut-slopes were selected and were classified into 10 application types of gabion. The classification types of gabion were mostly related to the erosion and collapse prevention across road cut-slope. Gabion work sites in this study were classified into 30 sites (31%) for below 10% gradient, followed by 31 sites (32%) for 11~30% gradient, 20 sites (21%) for 31~50% gradient, and 16 sites (16%) for 51~80% gradient. Gabion works were constructed mostly in low gradient than in high gradient. 34 gabion sites (35%) among 97 sites were not covered by vegetation and 52 gabion sites (54%) showed vegetation cover rates of 1~30%. On the scenic preference analysis, public groups understood that the scenic view of gabion in cutting slope can be improved by vegetation cover, whereas expert groups prefer to scenic view of gabion only. However, expert groups encouraged subsequently vegetation covering to improve scenic view during gabion works in cutting slope.
This study analyzed the characteristics of the disaster occurrence and disaster-prone zones on the 85 forest roads in the Jeollabuk-do area by referring to their forest environment factors. The on-site survey reveal the types of forest road disasters as follows: erosions of cutting slopes 54.1%, erosions of the filling slope 35.3%, collapses of cutting slopes with filling slope 9.4%, and erosions of road surface 1.1%. Disasters most frequently occurred in the vertical location (the hillside) and the horizontal location (the slope), and the forest factors affecting the road disasters were degree of cutting slopes in $31^{\circ}{\sim}40^{\circ}$, degree of filling slopes in $21^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$, and the soil texture of SiL. The most significant factors on the most frequent occurrence of forest road disasters were forest type of coniferous, slope aspect northeast, forest age of plantation and felling area, and rainfall in 1601~1700. An analysis of the occurrence of the forest road disasters in the Jeollabuk-do area showed a positive correlative relationship with the following factors of the forest environment within a 1% error: degree of cutting slope in $31^{\circ}{\sim}40^{\circ}$, annual accumulation rainfall in 1601~1700. and showed a positive correlative relationship with the following factors of the forest environment within a 5% error: horizontal location of valley, forest type of coniferous, length of slope more than 20 m, forest age of plantation and felling area, soil texture of SiL.
When the revegetation of the slopes is required, it is more desirable to consider it from the ecological view point rather than from the disaster-preventive one because the environment is critical for the introduction of pioneer plants to the denuded slopes. The ecological point of view adheres to the maintenance of the present, original ecosystem of the construction area. The new revegetation technology is presented using native microorganisms and its effective usuage was discussed based on the data in the research field. Direct seeding is recommended and explained in detail than planting seedlings. The importance of inclination angle of slope face is shown for the successful revegetation from its relationship with the thickness of soil. It is indicated that the introduction of pilot plants to the slopes should include their ability to ease the acid rain effects as much as possible. Finally every construction may not be desirable for the maintenance and improvement of the global ecosystem without the consideration of the opinions mentioned above.
This study was carried out to investigate flora and vegetation in cutting slope along a construction age sequence (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) of forest roads in Yongchiri, Younghyunmyon, Sacheonshi, Geyongsangnamdo. Mean slopes of the cutting and banking slopes of forest roads constructed were ranged from $42^{\circ}$ to $54^{\circ}$. Soil texture in the cutting and banking sides of forest roads constructed in 2012 was loam, while sandy loam in the cutting and banking slopes of forest roads constructed between 2007 and 2011. Vegetation cover percentage was higher in the banking slopes (66%) than the cutting slopes (49%) of forest roads. Total flora were higher in the banking slopes (50 species) than the cutting slopes (46 species) of forest roads. Species diversity was generally higher in the banking slopes than in the cutting slopes in all forest roads. In addition, the species diversity index was the highest in the cutting slopes (1.4015) of forest roads constructed in 2011, while the highest in the banking slopes (1.5603) of forest roads constructed in 2012. The results indicate that evenness index in the cutting and banking slopes of recent construction roads was high compared with old construction roads because of the distribution of simple plant species.
