In suddenly changing multimedia periods, department store not only plays the role of local culture centre but also meets keen competition in working out marketing strategies, especially in the field of differentiating Promotion Surroundings Image, in order to cope with the varied consumers' pattern according to customers' pursuing new lifestyle. In particular, cosmetic stores located in the first floor of the department store have high sales rate in spite of its comparative small area, because cosmetic stores have been much essential to women's daily life who are very strong for desiring the Beauty and also in them men's buying trends have been upwards speedily. The color and P.P.(Point of Sale Presentation) of the cosmetic store design are preferred after the quality and the price of the goods, staff's services by this survey of female clients' attitude to buy cosmetics at department store in Seoul. So that cosmetic companies seem to be needed to offer the differentiated color code in each brand and display the goods' P.P.(Point of Sale Presentation) intensively to promote the sales effectively. This thesis aims at suggesting the way how cosmetic firms get and enhance their goods' competitiveness when they develop their visual merchandising strategy by considering each brand's attribute and customers' life style by age, preference factors for buying the goods through showing high qualified sonics in their differentiated displayed stores.
This study examined and compared the two perspectives of consumers and employees on the perceptions toward visual merchandising (VMD) of fashion brands in a department store. Importance of VMD elements, roles of VMD, evaluations of VMD elements, and brand and store images were measured and compared. The two types of questionnaires were used to collect data from consumers and employees. A total of 327 consumer samples and 317 employee samples were analyzed. The results showed that there was no difference between the two groups in what VMD elements were the most important. While employees perceived of the role of VMD higher than consumers, consumers evaluated two VMD element factors higher than employees and showed higher store image. Such results were not different by brand types. The study implies that the higher VMD perceptions of consumers are desirable to manage VMD from the employees' perspective.

The current fashion market is experiencing a lot of difficulties in fashion forecasting due to consumers' fast-changing lifestyle on fashion, changes in consumer behavior, and the segmentation of the fashion market. To cope with this harsh reality, many fashion enterprises have paid much attention to the SPA (Specialty Retailer's Store of Private Label Apparel) brand as a promising fashion marketing strategy in terms of which they can survive in the extremely competing fashion market. The SPA brand is in the stage of inception in Korea, but the SPA brands such as MUJI and UNIQLO are already dominating the fashion business in Japan. Korea has just started developing the SPA brand, but its technological development, which was triggered by the success of 'BASIC HOUSE', is rapidly evolving. Under these circumstances, the SPA brand is getting vital for the fashion market in efficiently realizing consumers' requirements, revolutionizing the method for providing product information and the process of Marketing Mix Program, and expressing the value of shop. This paper studies the nature of the SPA brand and fashion merchandising system, and in turn examine the differences between the visual merchandising of the existing fashion brands and the Japanese SPA brands that are used as the fashion marketing strategy which is driven by the up-to-date technological system. Centering around these issues, we propose a visual merchandising system for fashion enterprises which serves to develop Korean-style SPA brands.

Focusing on the communication effects of fast fashion visual merchandising (VM), this paper examines the effects of a fast fashion store's VM attributes on consumer's perceptions of store image towards newness and prestige that influence the time spent at stores as well as the frequency of visits. This study was conducted by collecting data online using males and females in their twenties to forties; subsequently, a total of 382 samples were analyzed. The VM communication effect model utilized in fast fashion stores was developed and tested on structural equation modeling. The findings of the study were as follows. First, the show window presentation and ancillary facilities of VM elements have a positive effect on the perception of newness, while merchandise display, layout, and signage have a positive influence on the perception of prestige. Therefore, the VM elements in the fast fashion stores that affect the perception of newness and prestige are unique. Second, the perceptions of newness and prestige have a positive impact on time spent in fast fashion stores; however, only the perception of store's newness has a significant effect on the frequency of visits. Third, show window presentation and facilities are VM elements that directly influence the time spent and frequency of visits. Finally, we confirm that store image partially mediate between VM elements and shopping behavior at a fast fashion store.
Retail firms have begun to pursue the marketing strategies, which stimulate consumers' sensibility and lead people to purchase their products. The visible effects of visual merchandising (VM) arouse consumers' interest and play an effective role in having busy people efficiently choose products. Apparel retail stores such as SPA use the offline store to be the experiential environment of their branding. Consumers' sensitivity and response toward various visual merchandising strategies needs to be accessed. The purpose of this study is to identify VM consciousness and VM evaluation attribute factors. Relationship of such variables with other variables were accessed. As consequence variables, product satisfaction and unplanned purchase behavior were included in the study. An empirical survey data was collected from men and women of various ages. Results indicated that VM consciousness and VM evaluation attribute factors were not correlated with consumer demographic variables. VM evaluation attributes were factored into appropriateness, attractiveness and functionality dimensions. Clothing involvement and brand orientation significantly influenced product satisfaction and unplanned purchase. The direct and indirect effect (via VM consciousness) were significant. For unplanned purchase, brand orientation only had indirect effect. The influence of VM evaluation attribute factors were significant. Appropriateness had stronger effect on product satisfaction whereas attractiveness had stronger effect on unplanned behavior. Functionality dimension had only indirect effect on product satisfaction but did not show significant direct and indirect effects on unplanned purchase. This study identified the pivotal role of VM consciousness in various shopping and purchasing circumstances in offline retail store of apparel brands.
This study investigates the effect of visual merchandising congruity perception on brand attitude and purchase intention. In addition, this study examines the mediating role of perceived risk in the process. Four retail fashion brands with classic image were selected in the previous research to avoid the influence of different brand images. Questionnaires were distributed to 200 customers leaving the four fashion retail stores which were chosen by the previous research. A total of 167 completed questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 7.0 statistical packages. The results were summarized as follows. First, visual merchandising congruity perception positively affected brand attitude. This result supports the match-up hypothesis. Second, brand attitude positively influenced purchase intention. Third, visual merchandising congruity perception did not directly affect purchase intention. Visual merchandising congruity perception indirectly influenced purchase intention by mediating brand attitude; however, it did not directly influence purchase intention. Therefore, the strategic approaches to enhance favorable brand attitude through visual merchandising congruity perception should be tried. Fourth, visual merchandising congruity perception negatively affected perceived risk. Fifth, perceived risk negatively affected brand attitude. Sixth, visual merchandising congruity perception affected brand attitude by mediating perceived risk. Therefore, it is needed to devise the visual merchandising strategy that lowers the perceived risk in order to make a positive brand attitude.

A total of 203 questionnaires collected from shop masters working for women's wear fashion brands were analyzed. Results revealed that VM manual was used most often as a VM supporting activity, and casual brands offered VM training and professional VM help more often than designer brands did. Shop masters' attitude toward necessity, participation and usefulness to VM supporting activities were related to each other as well as to the perceived importance of VM. There were differences in the perceived importance of VM and attitude to VM supporting activities by age and sales career and in the VM management by income. Brand knowledge, the perceived importance of VM, and participation to VM supporting activities affected VM management of shop masters.
