Solar energy is a viable source to replace fossil fuels. However, challenges associated with site selection for solar panel installation inhibit the uptake of solar energy systems. Expressway slopes offer a potentially attractive alternative for solar panel installation for the following reasons: expressway slopes are vacant public sites, they are abundant (about 4,193km in South Korea), and they are linear in nature. Traditoinally when selecting sites for solar systems conventional surveying methods are employed. Unfortunately, these methods can be dangerous, time consuming, and labor intensive. To overcome these limitations of conventional site selection methodologies, we propose an automated approach using numerical maps. First, contour and expressway polylines are extracted separately from numeric maps. The extracted contour lines are then converted into a digital terrain model; this is used to calculate aspect and slope information. Next, the extracted expressway lines are projected onto a binary image and refined to recover the disconnections, and then applied to create a buffer zone to narrow the search space. Finally, all data sets are overlaid to identify candidate sites for solar panel systems and are visually verified through comparisons with aerial photos.

The railway signalling system for safe train operation regulates the train speed to ensure the safety distance between consecutive trains by using wayside facilities such as track circuits and interlocking systems. In addition, this signalling system controls the trackside equipment such as a railway point along the train line. This ground-equipment-based train control systems require high CAPEX and OPEX. To deal with these problems, the train control system using the on-board controller has been recently proposed and its related technologies have been widely studied. The on-board-controller-based train control system is that the on-board controller can directly control the trackside equipment on the train line. In addition, if this system is used, the wayside facilities can be simplified, and as a result, the efficient and cost-effective train control system can be realized. To this end, we have developed the prototypes of the on-board controller and wayside object control units which control the point and crossing gate and performed the integrated operation simulation in a testbed. In this paper, before the field test of the on-board-controller-based train control system, we perform the preliminary field trial including the installation test, wireless access test, interface test with other on-board devices, and normal operation test.

Seismic design of braced frames that simultaneously considers economic issues and structural performance represents a rather complicated engineering problem, and therefore, a systematic and well-established methodology is needed. This study proposes a multi-objective seismic design method for an inverted V-braced frame with suspended zipper struts that uses the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II(NSGA-II). The structural weight and the maximum inter-story drift ratio as the objective functions are simultaneously minimized to optimize the cost and seismic performance of the structure. To investigate which of strength- and performance-based design criteria for braced frames is the critical design condition, the constraint conditions on the two design methods are simultaneously considered (i.e. the constraint conditions based on the strength and plastic deformation of members). The linear static analysis method and the nonlinear static analysis method are adopted to check the strength- and plastic deformation-based design constraints, respectively. The proposed optimal method are applied to three- and six-story steel frame examples, and the solutions improved for the considered objective functions were found.

The widlass base frame which is currently used is designed by lots of volume and costs so as to obtain high rigidity in spite of the greatly external load. The purpose of this research is to draw conceptual design of optimal design which can satisfy high rigidity existing windlass base frame has and lessening the body at the same time. Therefore, it progressed conceptual design by applying Topology optimization and Size optimization based on the finite-element analysis for the early model and indicated the result by comparing the early model with optimized model. As the result of Topology optimization, its stress was increased by about 6MPa and weight was decreased by about 560kg in comparison with the early model. In addition, in case of Size optimization, its stress was increased by about 7MPa and weight was decreased by about 1,560kg in comparison with the early model.

This paper dealt with electrical and optical requirements of naval vessel's LED luminaires. And the products have been tested to determine whether the products meet these requirements or not. This study analyzes the cost-effectiveness of the LED luminaires which have been implemented for the application to naval vessel since 2012. The LED requirements were proposed based on comparison among other standards/specifications such as Korean Industrial Standard(KS), Korean Defense Specification(KDS) and US Navy Military Specification(MIL). Application of the proposed requirements were then be verified by analyzing and testing the electrical and optical characteristics of both fluorescent Luminaires and LED luminaires, and the LED luminaires were installed to A1 naval vessels according to the proposed requirements. As results, approximately 40% of power consumption was saved by using LED luminaires compared to using fluorescent luminaires while luminous flux was increased by 10~15%. Moreover, using LED luminaires of the proposed requirements exhibited the effect of reducing approximately 4,900 fluorescent luminaires in 10 naval vessels in the time period between 2012 to 2015, which is equivalent to cost reduction of \0.56M approximately. Such cost reduction is further expected considering the LED luminaires will continue to be applied to naval vessels in the future.

In digital broadcasting, it is possible to multiplex maximum one hundred audio or music programs into MPEG-2 transport stream, which is suitable for transmitting through one channel. In order to check if multiplex music programs are transmitted well, we need a multiplex audio monitoring system that monitors the programs in real-time. In analog broadcasting, we have used hardware-based audio monitoring system for a small number music programs. However, the effectiveness of hardware-based audio monitoring system from the cost and function viewpoint is so low that a new system is needed for digital broadcasting. In this paper, we have designed and implemented a software-based audio monitoring system to satisfy these requirements. In this implementation, only one PC is used without other hardware facilities, and the system monitors digital broadcasting music programs effectively. Transmitted digital broadcasting streams are demultiplexed into many music programs and the realtime value of audio level and packet error information for these programs are displayed in the screen. Thus, the system detects and shows the abnormal transmitting programs automatically. Simulation results show that effective realtime multiplex audio monitoring is possible for digital broadcasting music programs.

The RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) and the WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) have technical similarities and mutual effects, they have been recognized to be studied separately, and sufficient studies have not been conducted on the technical integration of the RFID and the WSN. Therefore, EPC global which realized the issue proposed the EPC(Electronic Produce Code) Sensor Network to efficiently integrate and interoperate the RFID and WSN technologies based on the international standard EPC global network. The proposed EPC Sensor Network technology uses the Complex Event Processing method in the middleware to integrate data occurring through the RFID and the WSN in a single environment and to interoperate the events based on the EPC global network. However, as the EPC Sensor Network technology continuously performs its operation even in the case that the minimum conditions are not to be met to find complex events in the middleware, its operation cost rises. Therefore, to address the problems of the existing system, we defined the minimum conditions of the complex events to detect unnecessary complex events in the middleware, and proposed an algorithm that can extract complex events only when the minimum conditions are to be met. To examine the minimum conditions, a index and a query index are used to extract complex events. To evaluate the performance of the proposed methods, In the case of the method of extracting complex events based on a bitmap index, we used the existing extraction method and NS2 simulation to evaluate its performance and thus to show its good performance in terms of the number of operation and the processing time for the complex events.
This dissertation investigated the evaluation model of IT Service quality: concentrated on the quality components in mobile communication service. Today, mobile communication service is changing dramatically. The first and second generation's mobile communication services were designed for voice and SMS(Short Message Service). However, while the mobile communication industry grows, the mobile technology made more services available for customers. Customers' changing needs brought a new opportunities to the market. Now, mobile communication service is facing a new era as multi-functioning, multimedia service, and high speed data transfer service are being introduced. There has been a lot of theoretical literature on service quality components of mobile communication, but most of the literature was focused on the voice service and SMS(1st and 2nd generation). As mobile communication service evolves, the components may have to be altered or rebuilt. To identify which service quality components ought to be utilized, prior studies on service quality components, service quality, and customer satisfaction were reviewed. Also, a survey was conducted on the various aspects of mobile communication service. This study suggests 6 components of service quality: those are supporting facilities, cellular phone(facilitating goods), quality of the voice service(explicit service), supplementary services, supporting services, and cost. Empirical results supported that all of these components are proven as the service quality components, but, with regards to customer satisfaction, only cellular phone(facilitating goods) and supplementary services are effective. As previously stated, the relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction is also proven. This study is a point of departure for the success of upcoming generation's mobile communication service. It identifies what is valuable from the customer's point of view. Furthermore, it suggests some ideas to prepare for future market opportunities.
The development of open-pit mines leads to large-area topographical changes in highland forests and can lead to severe deterioration of forests, requiring continuous monitoring. The drone photogrammetry is performed at a lower altitude than the existing manned aerial photogrammetry, and thus has a relatively high accuracy. The purpose of this study is to construct spatial information of large open pit mine using drone photogrammetry and to evaluate the accuracy and utilization of the results. The accuracy of the drone photogrammetric results was 0.018 ~ 0.063m in the horizontal direction and 0.027m ~ 0.088m in the vertical direction. These results satisfy the permissible accuracy of 1: 1,000 digital topographic map and it can be used for open mine monitoring. The geospatial information of the open pit mine can be used in various ways, and it can be used to monitor the quantitative change of a specific area for time series change through data management by periodic data acquisition. If drone photogrammetry is applied to open-pit mine monitoring in the future, work time and cost can be greatly reduced compared to the conventional GNSS or total station method, and the work efficiency can be greatly improved because more visible data can be generated.

The IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN (Local Area Network) is widely used for wireless access due to its easy deployment and low cost. Multicast in wireless LANs is very useful for transmitting data to multiple receivers compared to unicast to each receiver. In the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, multicast transmissions are unreliable since multicast data packets are transmitted without any feedback from receivers. Recently, various protocols have been proposed to enhance the reliability of multicast transmissions. They still have serious problems in reliability and efficiency due to the excessive control overhead by the use of a large number of control packets in the error recovery process, and due to a large number of retransmissions to satisfy all receivers. In this paper, we propose an effective scheme called PTRM(Proactive Transmission based Reliable Multicast). The proposed scheme uses a block erasure code to generate parity packets and to reduce the impact of independent packet error among receivers. After generating parity packets, the PTRM transmits data packets as many as receivers need to recover error, and then requests feedback from them. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides reliable multicast while minimizing the feedback overhead.
