The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of RC bridge piers and to provide the data for developing improved seismic design criteria. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process may be enhanced by the use of sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. n boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected, local discontinuity in deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel and concrete. In the companion paper, the proposed numerical method for seismic damage evaluation of RC bridge piers is verified by comparison with the reliable experimental results.

Recently, High Tensile Steel is adapt to thin plate on the steel structure and marine structure is used widely. It is possible for buckling happens great. Specially, Initial deflection of ship structure happens in place absence necessarily by heat processing of welding or cutting etc. This Initial Deflection is exerted negative impact when thin plate absence complicated nonlinear behaviour accompanied secondary buckling. As a result, must idealize initial deflection that occurrence is possible to endow stability and accuracy in the hull structure or marine structure and reflect in early structure design considering secondary buckling. Longi direction of compressive load interacts and analyzed finite element series analysis that apply various kinds initial deflection shape measured actually on occasion that is arranged simply supported condition in this research. Applied ANSYS (elasto-plasticity large deformation finite element method) to be mediocrity finite element program for analysis method and analysis control used in Newton-Raphson method & Arc-length method.

For the finite deflection analysis of plates with initial deflections subjected to uniaxial compression, the formulation of incremental finite strip method is made and has been incorporated into a computer program. A new in plane displacement function varying along the load: direction has been derived from the out-of-plane displacement function by considering the curvature of a plate. Either incremental load type analysis or incremental displacement type analysis may be selected to solve incremental equibrium equations in the program. The following results have been obtained: 1. Incremental displacement type analysis is superior to incremental load type analysis in that the former converges more rapidly than the latter. 2. The finite strip method using the new displacement function gives as accurate results as analytical method and other finite element methods.

In this study, an attempt for formulating a new and simplified rectangular finite element having only four corner nodal points is made to analyze the elastic-plastic large deformation behaviour up to the ultimate limit state of plates with initial imperfections. The present finite element contains the geometric nonlinearity caused by both in-plane and out-of-plane large deformation because for very thin plates the influence of the former may not be negligible. Treatment of expanded plastic zone in the plate thickness direction of the element is simplified based upon the concept of plastic node method so that the elastic-plastic stiffness matrix of the element is derived by the simple matrix operation without performing complicated numerical integration. Thus, a considerable saving of the computational efforts is expected. A computer program is also completed based on the present formulation and numerical calculation for some examples is performed so as to verify the accuracy and validity of the program.

The seismic design of solid reinforced concrete bridge columns has been committed to, based on accumulated research and design specifications. The rational confinement model and seismic performance evaluation, however, are insufficient because of the lack of domestic and foreign design specifications about the experimental and analytical difficulties in the case of circular hollow reinforced concrete columns. In this paper, the seismic behavior of circular hollow reinforced concrete columns and its dependence on design variables are understood and explained. These research results can be used to derive the rational and economical design specifications for circular hollow sectional columns based on the result from the nonlinear analysis program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology).

The flexural behavior of HSB plate girder with a non-slender web, due to inelastic lateral-torsional buckling, under uniform bending was investigated by the nonlinear finite element analysis. Both homogeneous sections fabricated from SM570-TMC, HSB600 or HSB800 steel and hybrid sections with HSB800 flanges and SM570-TMC web were considered. The flanges and web of selected noncomposite I-girders were modeled as thin shell elements and the geometrical and material nonlinear finite element analysis was performed by the ABAQUS program. The steel was assumed as an elasto-plastic strain hardening material. Initial imperfections and residual stresses were taken into account and their effects on the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior were analyzed. The flexural strengths of selected sections obtained by the finite element analysis were compared with the nominal flexural strengths from KHBDC LSD, AASHTO LRFD, and Eurocode and the applicability of these codes in predicting the inelastic lateral torsional buckling strength of HSB plate girders with a non-slender web was assessed.

The objective of this paper is to suggest a nonlinear analysis process to predict the structural behavior and strength of composite basement wall member combined with H-Pile. Therefore, the structural behavior of composite basement wall is studied and the special nonlinear characteristics of each elements such as H-Pile, concrete wall, and shear connectors are idealized using ATENA program. Finally, the result is compared with previous test result. Research result shows that there is a good co-relation between analysis and test results even if analysis result has little bit higher initial stiffness than test result. It can be concluded that the nonlinear behavior of composite basement wall is suitably predicted by using the contact element model in ATENA program as shear connector element.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete pier walls under cyclic out-of-plane loading and to develop improved seismic design criteria. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced by using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. A 4-node flat shell element with drilling rotational stiffness is used for spatial discretization. The layered approach is used to discretize the behavior of concrete and reinforcement through the thickness. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The method is verified a useful tool to assess the seismic performance of reinforced concrete pier walls subjected to cyclic out-of-plane load through comparing with reliable experimental results.

In this paper, precision and efficient nonlinear structural analysis for the aircraft wing-box model is developed. Herein, nonlinear shell element based on the co-rotational (CR) formulation is implemented. Then, parallel computing algorithm, the element-based partitioning technique is developed to accelerate the computational efficiency of the nonlinear structural analysis. Finally, computational performance, i.e., accuracy and efficiency, of the proposed analysis is evaluated by comparing with that of the existing commercial software.

Spatial structure is an appropriate shape that resists external force only with in-plane force by reducing the influence of bending moment, and it maximizes the effectiveness of structural system. With this character of the spatial structure, generally long span is used. As a result, large deflection is accompanied from the general frame. the structure is apt to result in a large deflection even though this structure experiences a small displacement in absence. Usually, nonlinear analysis in numerical analysis means geometric nonlinearity and material nonlinearity and complex nonlinearity analysis considers both of them. In this study, nonlinear equation of equilibrium considering geometric nonlinearity as per finite element method was applied and also considered the material nonlinearity using the relation of stress-strain in element. It is applied to find unstable result for tracing load-deflection curve in the numerical analysis tech. especially Arc-length method, and result of the analysis was studied by ABAQUS a general purpose of the finite element program. It is found that the present analysis predicts accurate nonlinear behavior of plane and space truss.
