  • The purpose of this study is to present a rational analytical method for predicting the behavioral characteristics from crack occurrence to fracture for a one-way CFRP grid reinforced concrete slab specimen. A total of four specimens were selected by Zhang et al.(2004) as the main experimental variables for CFRP grid amount, material properties and loading method. Analysis was performed through the Nonlinear Finite Element analysis program(RCAHEST), which applied the newly modified constitutive relational equations by the author. The mean and coefficient of variation for maximum moment from the experiment and analysis results was predicted 1.38 and 7 %. The mean and coefficient of variation for displacement corresponding maximum moment from the experiment and analysis results was predicted 1.41and 9.8 %. The prediction results for the behavioral characteristics from crack occurrence to fracture were verified and evaluated. It is judged that additional research is needed to secure various experimental results and to develop a more reliable analytical method.

  • The objective of this paper is to suggest a nonlinear analysis process to predict the structural behavior and strength of composite basement wall member combined with H-Pile. Therefore, the structural behavior of composite basement wall is studied and the special nonlinear characteristics of each elements such as H-Pile, concrete wall, and shear connectors are idealized using ATENA program. Finally, the result is compared with previous test result. Research result shows that there is a good co-relation between analysis and test results even if analysis result has little bit higher initial stiffness than test result. It can be concluded that the nonlinear behavior of composite basement wall is suitably predicted by using the contact element model in ATENA program as shear connector element.

  • In this study, we evaluate the strength of steel box beam-to-column connections subjected to axial loads in steel frame piers. The T-connection strength was reduced due to the column axial force in the two-story pier structure. To examine this phenomenon, non-linear FEM analysis was carried out and the analytical procedure was verified by comparing it with experimental results. To clarify the effect of the axial force and major design parameters in connection with strength, influence of panel zone width-thickness ratio, sectional area, and axial force was investigated using FEM analysis. Also, the theoretical strength equations were suggested by stress distribution of panel zone. The strength of the T-connection was compared with one of the one-story pier structure connections. As a result, the strength evaluation equations are proposed in consideration of the panel zone width-thickness ratio and sectional area ratio for the T-connections.

  • In this study, an attempt for formulating a new and simplified rectangular finite element having only four corner nodal points is made to analyze the elastic-plastic large deformation behaviour up to the ultimate limit state of plates with initial imperfections. The present finite element contains the geometric nonlinearity caused by both in-plane and out-of-plane large deformation because for very thin plates the influence of the former may not be negligible. Treatment of expanded plastic zone in the plate thickness direction of the element is simplified based upon the concept of plastic node method so that the elastic-plastic stiffness matrix of the element is derived by the simple matrix operation without performing complicated numerical integration. Thus, a considerable saving of the computational efforts is expected. A computer program is also completed based on the present formulation and numerical calculation for some examples is performed so as to verify the accuracy and validity of the program.

  • This paper examines the flexure behavior of FRP-concrete composite structure that can replace conventional reinforced concrete structure types. In order to investigate the structural performance and behavioral characteristics in numerical analysis means, ABAQUS, a general purpose finite element analysis program, was utilized for nonlinear finite element analysis, and the various variables and their influences were analyzed and compared with experimental results to suggest values optimized to this composite structure. The concrete damage plasticity model and Euro code for concrete were used. In the implicit finite element analysis, the convergence was ambiguous when geometrical and material nonlinearity were large, so the explicit finite element analysis used in this study was deemed to be appropriate. From the comparison with the experiment about concrete damaged plasticity model, 20mm for the mesh size, $30^{\circ}$ for the dilation angle, $100Nmm/mm^2$ for the value of fracture energy, 0.667 for Kc value, and the consideration of damage parameter were suggested believed to be appropriate. The numerical model suggested in this study was able to imitate the ultimate load and cracking pattern very well; therefore, it is expected to be utilized in research of various new material composite structures.

  • A real-time hybrid test of a 3 story-3 bay reinforced concrete frame which is divided into numerical and physical substructure models under uniaxial earthquake excitation was run using a fixed iteration implicit HHT time integration method. The first story inner non-ductile column was selected as the physical substructure model, and uniaxial earthquake excitation was applied to the numerical model until the specimen failed due to severe damage. A finite-element analysis program, Mercury, was newly developed and optimized for a real-time hybrid test. The drift ratio based on the top horizontal displacement of the physical substructure model was compared with the result of a numerical simulation by OpenSees and the result of a shaking table test. The experiment in this paper is one of the most complex real-time hybrid tests, and the description of the hardware, algorithm and models is presented in detail. If there is an improvement in the numerical model, the evaluation of the tangent stiffness matrix of the physical substructure model in the finite element analysis program and better software to reduce the computational time of the element state determination for the force-based beam-column element, then the comparison with the results of the real-time hybrid test and the shaking table test deserves to make a recommendation. In addition, for the goal of a "Numerical simulation of the complex structures under dynamic loading", the real time hybrid test has enough merit as an alternative to dynamic experiments of large and complex structures.

  • A geometrically nonlinear cable finite element is presented to use in the static or dynamic modeling of offshore and onshore structures such as guyed tower, tension leg platform or mooring buoy, submarine cable, cable-stayed bridge, suspension bridge, cable roof and so on. The cable finite element is derived directly from the compatibility equations and flexibility matrix of elastic catenary cable theory for the arbitary plane loading and geome try. A general and virsatile computer program has been developed to perform the analyses of cable member itself or cable guyed or suspened structures, in which Newmark-$\beta$ method is used to obtain a time domain solution and Newton-Raphson iteration method is used to solve the nonlinear system of compatibility equations of cable and algebraic static or dynamic equations at each time step. The results from the static and dynamic analysis of a cable member by the computer program are summarized and presented.

  • For the finite deflection analysis of plates with initial deflections subjected to uniaxial compression, the formulation of incremental finite strip method is made and has been incorporated into a computer program. A new in plane displacement function varying along the load: direction has been derived from the out-of-plane displacement function by considering the curvature of a plate. Either incremental load type analysis or incremental displacement type analysis may be selected to solve incremental equibrium equations in the program. The following results have been obtained: 1. Incremental displacement type analysis is superior to incremental load type analysis in that the former converges more rapidly than the latter. 2. The finite strip method using the new displacement function gives as accurate results as analytical method and other finite element methods.
