  • It is prerequisite that we have to fomulate the nonlinear mathematical modeling to design the guidance and control system of rotorcraft-based unmanned aerial vehicle using a small-scaled commercial helicopter. The small-scaled helicopters are very different from the full-scale helicopters in dynamic behavior such as high rotation speed and high frequency dynamic characteristics. In this paper, the formulation of the mathematical model of the small-scaled helicopter to minimize the complexity is presented by component and source build-up approach. It is linearized at the trim condition of hovering and forward flight and analyzed the flight modes. The results of this approach have general trends but a little difference. To verify this approach, it is necessary to compare this theoretical model with experimental results by system identification using flight test as a next research topic.

  • Post-installed anchors were widely used due to its workable benefits. Regarding the resistance performance of anchors, the critical edge distance is presented to minimize the impact of concrete splitting. In the case of actual anchors, however, it is difficult to obtain the ideal edge distance. The purpose of this study is to identify resistance performance and behavior characteristics that contain complex elements such as concrete crack occurring under tensile load. Tensile tests were conducted based on the standard method. Failure shape and the resistance characteristics that do not have the critical edge distance were derived by tensile load. Parametric analysis according to the boundary condition was performed to simulate the actual tensile behavior, through a nonlinear finite element model based on the specimen. Consequently therefore, verifying analysis results the resistance mechanism can be applied through boundary conditions.

  • A novel pre-equalization method for terrestrial DTV transmitters is presented. A pre-equalizer has been used in transmitters to correct group delay and amplitude distortions caused by a channel filter. In the proposed pre-equalizer, an equation-error adaptive IIR filtering scheme is adopted unlike the conventional pre-equalization using FIR filtering schemes. The pole-zero modelling property of IIR filters improves the signal-to-noise ratio and may deal with diverse linear distortions existing in DTV transmitters as well as the channel filter distortion. Simulation results show that the proposed IIR pre-equalizer performs better than the FIR pre-equalizer in terms of the residual mean-square error.

  • This study is to analyse how trust and asset specificity among partner firms affect on performance of international joint venture(IJV). Especially, the analysis was mainly based on a quadratic model. While it assumes that the previous studies was based on linear model in the relationship between trust, asset specificity and the performance, this study proceeds a empirical analysis by setting up a hypothesis; it would be quadratic relationship between trust, asset specificity and performance which are based on social capital theory and transaction cost theory. The survey was held with 74 manufactures who were established as an IJV by Korean and foreign firms together. In the result of the empirical analysis, trust shows an inverted U-shaped relationship with IJV performance. Also, asset specificity shows the U-shaped relationship with IJV performance. The results suggest that it needs to control and maintain the trust level among the partners in order not to lose an appropriate control caused by too much trust. In order to minimize the cost generated by asset specificity and to transform it into positive impact, it needs a control and the operation of monitoring system on the opportunistic action of the partners. Furthermore, it needs to keep organizational flexibility and innovativeness to continuously develop new capabilities.

  • A three dimensional (3D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes of thick, circular and annular plates with nonlinear thickness variation along the radial direction. Unlike conventional plate theories, which are mathematically two dimensional (2D), the present method is based upon the 3D dynamic equations of elasticity. Displacement components u/sub s/, u/sub z/, and u/sub θ/ in the radial, thickness, and circumferential directions, respectively, are taken to be sinusoidal in time, periodic in θ, and algebraic polynomials in the s and z directions. Potential (strain) and kinetic energies of the plates are formulated, and the Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem thus yielding upper bound values of the frequencies by minimizing the frequencies. As the degree of the polynomials is increased, frequencies converge to the exact values. Convergence to four digit exactitude is demonstrated for the first five frequencies of the plates. Numerical results we presented for completely free, annular and circular plates with uniform linear, and quadratic variations in thickness. Comparisons are also made between results obtained from the present 3D and previously published thin plate (2D) data.

  • In the development of clothing design through virtual simulation, it is essential to minimize the differences between the virtual and the real world as much as possible. The most critical task to enhance the similarity between virtual and real garments is to find simulation parameters that can closely emulate the physical properties of the actual fabric in use. The simulation parameter optimization process requires manual tuning by experts, demanding high expertise and a significant amount of time. Especially, considerable time is consumed in repeatedly running simulations to check the results of applying the tuned simulation parameters. Recently, to tackle this issue, artificial neural network learning models have been proposed that swiftly estimate the results of drape test simulations, which are predominantly used for parameter tuning. In these earlier studies, relatively simple linear stiffness models were used, and instead of estimating the entirety of the drape mesh, they estimated only a portion of the mesh and interpolated the rest. However, there is still a scarcity of research on non-linear stiffness models, which are commonly used in actual garment design. In this paper, we propose a learning model for estimating the results of drape simulations for non-linear stiffness models. Our learning model estimates the full high-resolution mesh model of drape. To validate the performance of the proposed method, experiments were conducted using three different drape test methods, demonstrating high accuracy in estimation.

  • In this study, a continuous optimum design model with its application program for plane steel frame structures developed. In the model, the sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT) transforming the nonlinear optimization problem with multidesign variables and constraints into an unconstrained minimization problem and the refined plastic hinge analysis method as one of the most effective second-order inelastic analysis methods for steel frame structures were implemented. The total weight of a steel frame structure was taken as the objective function, and the AISC-LRFD code requirements for the local and member buckling, flexural strength, shear strength, axial strength and size of the cross-sectional shapes of members were used for the derivation of constraint equations. To verify the appropriateness of the present model, the optimum designs of serveral plane steel frame structures subject to vertical and horizontal loads were conducted.

  • This paper proposes an image-based modeling method which recovers 3D models using projected line segments in multiple images. Using the method, a user obtains accurate 3D model data via several steps of simple manual works. The embedded nonlinear minimization technique in the model parameter estimation stage is based on the distances between the user provided image line segments and the projected line segments of primitives. We define an error using a finite line segment and thus increase accuracy in the model parameter estimation. The error is defined as the sum of differences between the observed image line segments provided by the user and the predicted image line segments which are computed using the current model parameters and camera parameters. The method is robust in a sense that it recovers 3D structures even from partially occluded objects and it does not be seriously affected by small measurement errors in the reconstruction process. This paper also describesexperimental results from real images and difficulties and tricks that are found while implementing the image-based modeler.

  • Underwater transient signals are complex, variable and nonlinear, resulting in a difficulty in accurate modeling with reference patterns. We analyze one type of underwater transient signals, in the form of whale sounds, using the MFCC(Mel-Frequency Cepstral Constant) and synthesize them from the MFCC and the weighted $L_2$-norm minimization techniques. The whales in this experiments are Humpback whales, Right whales, Blue whales, Gray whales, Minke whales. The 20th MFCC coefficients are extracted from the original signals using the MATLAB programming and reconstructed using the weighted $L_2$-norm minimization with the inverse MFCC. Finally, we could find the optimum weighted factor, 3~4 for reconstruction of whale sounds.

  • We developed a fiber-optic CT for large current monitoring in power systems. We used a FRG fiber sensor coil to suppress CT output degradation caused by linear birefringence, and different optical sources were used to compare their noise characteristics. From the experiments, we obtained output variation less than $\pm$0.4(%) when the sensor coil suffered mechanical perturbations, and the ASE source showed -23(㏈) less noise in the output than singlemode laser diode.
