The purpose of painterly rendering is to express real painting work from input image. For expression of real pain ting impression, drawing condition is one of main element. In this paper, we propose new algorithm for using density of edges. Drawing condition of new algorithm uses color difference and density of edges. And for finding next position from current position, we used dynamic grid. We did direction interpolation for coherence direction. Also using various texture brush, we express the feel of a material effective. We show results of images rendered more realistic oil painting effect, and discuss long-term goals for more effective result.
In this paper, we present a new algorithm which imitate real pencil strokes. The purpose of research on NPR(Non-Photorealistic Rendering) is simulating automatically manmade artistic expressions such as pen-and-ink illustrations, watercolor paintings, pencil sketches and pastel drawings with computers. Recently, there has been a great deal of research works on NPR. One of them is researching in pencil illustration methods for NPR, and a lot of researchers have investigated into the LIC(Linear Integral Convolution) techniques which would change the initial images into the output images by directional vector field images for generating effects of pencil. However, the LIC techniques can not be applied to real-time drawing tools because they are post processing techniques. This paper presents a real-time pencil strokes algorithm which is based on an observation of how pencils(from 6B to 6H) draw lines. Although this algorithm using some pencil variables and noise generation is simple, it is fast and also can draw real-time pencil strokes similar to real manmade pencil strokes in a GUI drawing tool.
We proposed the method for photomosaic generation using a programmable GPU. We design vertices to generate a photomosaic through a graphics pipeline and suggest a texture representation of an image database whice is used for tile. Both the source image and the tiles are stored to texture, which are matched by a vertex shader and drawn by a fragment shader. This is much faster than several techniques which achieve the best match for each tile.
In this paper, we suggest a stroke level of detail (LOD) based on a saliency density. On painter]y rendering, the stroke LOD has an advantage of making the observer concentrate on the main object and improving accuracy of expression. For the stroke LOD, it is necessary to classify the detailed and abstracted area. We divide the area on the basis of saliency distribution and the level of detailed expression is controlled based on the saliency information. 'We define that the area of which the saliency distribution is high is a major subject that an artist tries to express, it is described in detail. The area of which the saliency distribution is low is abstractly described. Each divided area has the abstraction level. And by adapting the brushes of which sizes are appropriate to each level, it is possible to express the area which needs to be expressed in details from the one which needs to be expressed abstractly.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm which represents the distance depiction technique of real painting that named "Aerial Perspective" in painterly rendering. It is a painting technique that depicts the attenuations of light in the atmosphere, and the scattering effect is changed by the distance, altitude and density of atmospheres. For the reflection of these natures, we use the depth information corresponding to an input image and user-defined parameters, so that user changes the effect level. We calculate the distance and altitude of every pixel with the depth information and parameters about shot information, and control the scattering effects by expression parameters. Additionally, we accentuate the occluding edges detected by the depth information to clarify the sense of distance between fore and back-ground. We apply our algorithm on various landscape scenes, and generate the distance-emphasized results compared to existing works.
The ultimate objective of painterly rendering is to express an inputted image as if it is hand drawn. The factors to express this painterly effect are thickness of the brush, direction, texture and the establishment of criteria judging if the produced brush will be drawn on to the canvas. In this paper, the algorithm using density of the edges in determining the criteria whether the brush will be drawn onto the canvas is proposed. Density of edges refers to the quantity of edge in the specific area. And uses the method of finding the location of the brush to be drawn as a unit of dynamic grid as well as expressing consistent directional through direction interpolation. Also, the texture is expressed using various textured brushes. Considering density of edges,We can express detailed area and abstract area. And it result in more human effect of oil painting.
We present a novel scheme for generating line drawings from 2D images, aiming to facilitate effective visual communication. In contrast to conventional edge detectors, our technique imitates the human line drawing process to generate lines effectively and intuitively. Our technique consists of three parts: line extraction, line rendering, and user guidance. In line extraction, we extract lines by estimating a likelihood function to effectively find the genuine shape boundaries. In line rendering, we consider the feature scale and the blurriness of lines with which the detail and the focus-level of lines are controlled. We also employ stroke textures to provide a variety of illustration styles. User guidance is allowed to modify the shapes and positions of lines interactively, where immediate response is provided by GPU implementation of most line extraction operations. Experimental results demonstrate that our technique generates various kinds of line drawings from 2D images enabled by the control over detail, focus, and style.
