  • Discrete-time controller design is proposed using feedback system identification in frequency domain. System Stability imposed by a new controller is checked in the function of a conventional closed-loop system, instead of a poorly modeled plant due to non-linearity and disturbance as well as unstable components, etc. The stability of the system is evaluated in view of Popov criterion. All the equations are formulated in the framework of the discrete-time system. Simulation results are shown on the plant with input saturation components, DC disturbance and a pure integration.

  • The design and synthesis of a state feedback controller assumes the feedback of all state variables of the system. However, some state variables are not physical quantifies so that sensors may not be available, or may be too expensive to measure. Hence, a state observer can be an alternative to estimate unmeasurable state variables. This paper therefore presents a scheme for state observer-based stabilization control of inverted pendulum systems. The feedback gain matrices of both the state feedback controller and the state observer are tuned by real-coded genetic algorithms(RCGAs) such that the given performance indices are minimized. The proposed method is demonstrated through simulations.

  • Condensing gas boiler units may make a big role for the reduction of energy consumption in heating industries. In order to decrease the energy consumption of a condensing gas boiler unit, the effective operations and controls of the system are necessary. In this study, mathematical models of a condensing gas boiler system were developed and programmed in order to predict dynamic behaviors of the system. These include dynamic models for a blower, a gas valve, a pump, a burner, a boiler heat exchanger, and a hot water heat exchanger. Control algorithms for the control of a gas valve, a blower, and a pump were also assumed. Simulation results showed good predictions of the dynamic phenomena of a boiler system. Therefore, the simulation program developed for this study may be effectively used for the development of control algorithms of the boiler system.

  • Technology on the proportional integral (PI) control have grown rapidly owing to the needs for the robust capacity of the controllers from industrial building sectors. However, PI controller requires tuning of gains for optimal control when the outside weather condition changes. The present study presents the possibility of reinforcement learning (RL) control algorithm with PI controller adapted in the HVAC system. The optimal design criteria of RL controller was proposed in the Environment Chamber experiment and a theoretical analysis was also conducted using TRNSYS program.

  • This paper describes the control charcteristics of thermal/flow systems. In thermal/flow systems, the transport lag plays as a dead time causing a deterioration of the controllability. Besides this, such many parameters including the temperature, pressure, and flow rate affect the system response that a control scheme which can deal with multi-input is required. Particularly in a refrigerant compressor test facility, the evaporator and condenser interact each other so that the change in the evaporator pressure cause the condenser pressure to change or vice versa. Therefore, to control the evaporator pressure, not only the cooling water flow rate in the evaporator but also the coolant flow rate in the condenser is considered. Meanwhile, the conventional PID controllers, which is suitable for a single input system, shows a large overshoot for a disturbance input. In this work, the predictive control scheme is introduced and its applicability is discussed for thermal/flow systems.

  • In the automatic operation of an urban rail vehicle, a conventional PID control algorithm is applied to run the vehicle between stations within time limit and jerk limit. But the energy consumption in the automatic operation is much higher than in the manual operation. In this study, the optimal control algorithm for automatic operation is proposed to minimize energy consumption, which satisfies automatic operation for the urban rail vehicle, compared with the conventional PID control algorithm.

  • 많은 분야에서 널리 사용되고 있는 PID 제어기의 형태는 오차를 갖는 폐루프 시스템으로 구성되며, PID 제어기는 비례, 적분, 미분 제어기로 나누어진다. PID 제어기의 형태가 여러 가지로 제안되고 있지만 보다 중요한 것은 PID 제어기의 파라미터들을 어떻게 적절히 정하느냐 하는 파라미터 조정 문제이다. 실제로 산업 현장에 설치되어 있는 PID 제어기는 대부분 숙련된 기술자에 의해 수동 조작에 의한 시행 착오(trial and error) 법으로 동조되고 있다. 이 경우는 많은 노력과 시간이 소비되고, 외란(disturbance)이 첨가될 경우 적절히 동조된다는 보장도 없다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하고자 신경회로망을 이용하여 PID 제어기의 파라미터를 동조하는 제어 방법을 제안하였다. 단일 뉴런으로 구성하여 구조가 간단하고, 학습에 의한 성능 개선이 가능하다. 오차 역전파(Error Back-Propagation) 알고리즘에 의하여 PID 파라미터가 되는 가중치를 자동 동조하는 방법이다. 제안한 방식의 유용성을 보이기 위해 DC 서보 모터와 비선형 시스템인 단일 관절 매니퓰레이터를 대상으로 시뮬레이션을 하였다.

Study of Temperature Dynamic Characteristics of Various Control Methods for MGO Chiller System (MGO Chiller 시스템의 제어 방식에 따른 온도 동특성 연구)

  • It is important that an MGO Chiller System, which is one of the sulfur oxide emission control technologies, is designed to meet the fuel temperature requirements, even with sudden engine load changes. Three different control algorithms (PI, Cascade, and MPC) were applied to an indirect MGO chiller system to compare and analyze the outlet temperature dynamic characteristics of the system through a case study. The results showed that the MPC control method had the best temperature following characteristics in the case study, and the temperature deviation range was reduced by approximately 5% compared to the PI control method.

  • This study is concerned with the optimizing method of control parameters for a hydraulic speed control system by using genetic algorithms which are general purpose search algorithms based on natural evolution and genetics. It is shown that the genetic altorithms satisfactorily oiptimized control gains of the PI speed control system of an electrohydraulic servomotor and that optimization of control para- meters can be achived without much experience and knowledge for tuning. It is also shown that optimal gains may be determined from fitness distribution curves plotted in given gain spaces.
