A Study on Registration Correction and Layout for Multi-view Videos Implementation (실감영상 구현을 위한 다면영상 정합보정 및 화면구성에 대한 연구)

  • Realistic videos using multi-view videos are created so that the contents shown on multi-view displays or screens look realistic. These images have been mostly used for special videos for exhibition, but, recently, systems such as Screen X have given rise to multi-view images as a format for storytelling contents such as movies. This study used HD-level broadcasting digital video camera with three zoom lenses for shooting wide to close-up shots focusing on a person, in the same way as Screen X, and identified and analyzed problems found during multi-view image registration correction. The results of this study suggested, provided the shooting technique and equipment are improved, the multi-view format can be used for conveying stories and information. Future research will need to investigate and supplement relevant techniques that will enable production of high-quality multi-view image contents by using a cinema-grade camera with standard lenses, instead of using broadcasting-grade zoom lenses.

New Binarization Method of Transformed Coefficient for CABAC In H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC의 CABAC 엔트로피 부호기를 위한 변환 계수의 새로운 이진화 방법)

  • It is well-known that the coding efficiency of CABAC which is one of the entropy coding methods in H.264/AVC is lower than that of CAVLC at high bitrate in intra coding, even if CABAC shows higher coding efficiency than CAVLC. Therefore, for high quality video application, this paper proposes new binarization methods about the quantized DCT coefficients that are partitioned into four regions such that CABAC shows similar coding efficiency to CAVLC at high bitrate. The proposed binarization methods consist of separate binarization tables about the four partitioned DCT coefficients considering the statistical characteristics of the quantized DCT coefficients. The proposed binarizaton method for the quantized DCT coefficients shows higher coding efficiency than CABAC in H.264/AVC and shows very similar result to CAVLC at high bitrate.

Adaptive Macroblock Quantization Method for H.264 Codec (H.264 코덱을 위한 적응적 매크로블록 양자화 방법)

  • This paper presents a new adaptive macroblock quantization algorithm which generates the output bits corresponding to the target bit budget. The H.264 standard uses various coding modes and optimization methods to improve the compression performance, which makes it difficult to control the amount of the generated traffic accurately. In the proposed scheme, linear regression analysis is used to analyze the relationship between the bit rate of each macroblock and the quantization parameter and to predict the MAD values. Using the predicted values, the quantization parameter of each macroblock is determined by the Lagrange multiplier method and then modified according to the difference between the bit budget and the generated bits. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can generate output bits accurately corresponding to the target bit rates.

  • Frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) algorithm is an image interpolation technology that improves the frame rate of moving pictures. This solves problems such as screen shake or blurry motion caused by low frame rate video in high-definition digital video systems, and provides viewers with a more free and smooth visual experience. In this paper, we propose a video compression technique using deep learning-based FRUC algorithm. The proposed method compresses and transmits after excluding some images from the original video, and uses a deep learning-based interpolation method in the decoding process to restore the excluded images, thereby compressing them with high efficiency. In the experiment, the compression performance was evaluated using the decoded image and the image restored by the FRUC algorithm after encoding the video by skipping 1 or 3 pages. When 1 and 3 sheets were excluded, the average BD-rate decreased by 81.22% and 27.80%. The reason that excluding three images has lower encoding efficiency than excluding one is because the PSNR of the image reconstructed by the FRUC method is low.

An Analysis of the Impact of Digital Content Usage on Smart TV Usage (디지털 콘텐츠 이용이 스마트TV 이용에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • As digital content services, especially OTT(over-the-top) video services, diffuse rapidly, so do smartTVs. Based on the indirect network effect theory and the complementarity theory, this study explores the relationship between digital content services and smartTV. Using the Media panel dataset, this study analyzes how the usage of digital content service (OTT usage, OTT usage volume, the usage of various OTT service types, and online game/music/education/news service) affects smartTV usage. This study shows that OTT usage and its usage volume is positively associated with smartTV usage, and that the usage of various OTT service types is positively associated with smartTV usage compared with non-OTT users. As for online content services, the usage of online education service is positively associated with smartTV usage while the usage of online news service is associated negatively. These results support the indirect network effect theory and the complementarity theory.

  • Over the past three years, even amidst viral threats, a notable shift towards online interactions has been observed. This trend persists the presence of significant viral concerns. Our study centered on female office workers in their twenties and thirties in Korea, seeking to comprehend how they enhance and present their external image in the digital era. We explored the use of digital devices and fashion choices that enable them to amplify their self-expression in video conferences. Using a mix of surveys and in-depth interviews, we employed snowball sampling to recruit twelve participants. These women were given the opportunity to shape their digital persona either to uphold their current image or to adapt it for interactions where they weren't face-to-face. Their desired images fell into three distinct categories: an authoritative professional image, a clean modern image, and a natural image. Depending on the context, the participants aimed to convey these images independently or in various combinations. Our findings suggest the need to develop strategies for acknowledging and projecting individual fashion identities in non-face-to-face interactions. Such strategies would empower individuals to better align their online personas with their desired self-image, whether it's professional, modern, clean, natural, or a combination thereof.

Automatic Indexing Algorithm of Golf Video Using Audio Information (오디오 정보를 이용한 골프 동영상 자동 색인 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes an automatic indexing algorithm of golf video using audio information. In the proposed algorithm, the input audio stream is demultiplexed into the stream of video and audio. By means of Adaboost-cascade classifier, the continuous audio stream is classified into announcer's speech segment recorded in studio, music segment accompanied with players' names on TV screen, reaction segment of audience according to the play, reporter's speech segment with field background, filed noise segment like wind or waves. And golf swing sound including drive shot, iron shot, and putting shot is detected by the method of impulse onset detection and modulation spectrum verification. The detected swing and applause are used effectively to index action or highlight unit. Compared with video based semantic analysis, main advantage of the proposed system is its small computation requirement so that it facilitates to apply the technology to embedded consumer electronic devices for fast browsing.

The Effect of Perceived Risk, Scarcity Message in the CATV Homeshopping Ad, and Purchasing Experience on CATV Homeshopping Consumers Response (케이블 TV홈쇼핑 프로그램에서 지각된 위험과 희소성 메시지가 이용경험이 다른 소비자의 반응에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines primarily the effects of perceived risk and scarcity massage on consumers in CATV homeshopping. For consumers, the perceived risk is the cause of delaying purchase decision in CATV Homeshopping while scarcity message in the Ad facilitate purchasing intention in the CATV homeshopping. And another important characteristic of consumer which exerts impact on the response of consumer to the Ad and the product is the frequency of purchasing experience. Thus the purpose of this study is to test the effect of 3 factors on consumer's response to homeshopping Ad and product: one is perceived risk, another is scarcity message and the third is consumer's difference in purchasing. And these are defined as independent variables. The responses of the consumer, the dependent variables of this test are measured in three dimensions; 1) the purchasing intention of the product, 2) the attitude toward the Ad, and 3) the attitude toward product of the consumer. 110 housewives are sampled and assigned to 4 experimental groups. All the groups first watched a video-taped homeshopping Ad messages, and then filled up their responses on the administered questionnaire. The results of this study shows as follows: 1) Perceived risk has negative effect to consumer response. 2) Scarcity message has positive effect to consumers response. 3) But especially perceived risk has negative effect to high frequency purchasing experience group. 4) Scarcity message has also negative effect to high frequency purchasing experience group. 5) The interaction effect of perceived risk and scarcity message is most prominent to the consumers of high frequent purchasing experience.

Data Level Parallelism for H.264/AVC Decoder on a Multi-Core Processor and Performance Analysis (멀티코어 프로세서에서의 H.264/AVC 디코더를 위한 데이터 레벨 병렬화 성능 예측 및 분석)

  • There have been lots of researches for H.264/AVC performance enhancement on a multi-core processor. The enhancement has been performed through parallelization methods. Parallelization methods can be classified into a task-level parallelization method and a data level parallelization method. A task-level parallelization method for H.264/AVC decoder is implemented by dividing H.264/AVC decoder algorithms into pipeline stages. However, it is not suitable for complex and large bitstreams due to poor load-balancing. Considering load-balancing and performance scalability, we propose a horizontal data level parallelization method for H.264/AVC decoder in such a way that threads are assigned to macroblock lines. We develop a mathematical performance expectation model for the proposed parallelization methods. For evaluation of the mathematical performance expectation, we measured the performance with JM 13.2 reference software on ARM11 MPCore Evaluation Board. The cycle-accurate measurement with SoCDesigner Co-verification Environment showed that expected performance and performance scalability of the proposed parallelization method was accurate in relatively high level

A Nobel Video Quality Degradation Monitoring Schemes Over an IPTV Service with Packet Loss (IPTV 서비스에서 패킷손실에 의한 비디오품질 열화 모니터링 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel video quality degradation monitoring scheme titled VR-VQMS(Visual Rhythm based Video Quality Monitoring Scheme) over an IPTV service prone to packet losses during network transmission. Proposed scheme quantifies the amount of quality degradation due to packet losses, and can be classified into a RR(reduced-reference) based quality measurement scheme exploiting visual rhythm data of H.264-encoded video frames at a media server and reconstructed ones at an Set-top Box as feature information. Two scenarios, On-line and Off-line VR-VQMS, are proposed as the practical solutions. We define the NPSNR(Networked Peak-to-peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) modified by the well-known PSNR as a new objective quality metric, and several additional objective and subjective metrics based on it to obtain the statistics on timing, duration, occurrence, and amount of quality degradation. Simulation results show that the proposed method closely approximates the results from 2D video frames and gives good estimation of subjective quality(i.e.,MOS(mean opinion score)) performed by 10 test observers. We expect that the proposed scheme can play a role as a practical solution to monitor the video quality experienced by individual customers in a commercial IPTV service, and be implemented as a small and light agent program running on a resource-limited set-top box.
