  • The prediction of clad surface temperatures is important to the design and the safety anlaysis of nuclear reactor. The accurate prediction requires the detailed knowledge of the flow structure and heat transfer, which is complicate due to anisotropic turbulent phenomena. A two-equation model including anisotropic eddy viscosity model is applied to forecast the velocity distribution. And the temperature field is calculated with uniform wall heat flux. The Galerkin's weighted residual finite element method has been used to calculate the turbulent quantities right up to the wall. The numerical results show good agreement with available data and that turbulence anisotropy strongly affects on the mean flow and thus the temperature field. And Nu-P/D correlation is established for sodium coolant in close-packed equilateral triangular bundle in the P/D range of 1.05 to 1.30.

  • Nonlinear relationship between Reynolds stresses and the rate of strain of nonlinear k-$\varepsilon$models is evaluated theoretically by using the boundary layer assumptions against the turbulence-driven secondary flows in noncircular ducts and then their prediction performance is validated numerically through the application to the fully developed turbulent flow in a square duct. Typical predicted quantities such as mean axial and secondary velocities, turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds stresses are compared with available experimental data. The nonlinear k-$\varepsilon$ model adopted in a commercial code is found to be unable to predict accurately duct flows with the prediction level of secondary flows one order less than that of the experiment.

Typical predicted quantities such as axial and secondary velocities, turbulent kinetic energy and wall shear stress are compared in details both qualitatively and quantitatively with both each other and experimental data. • The objective of this study is to predict the drag of an axisymmetric underwater vehicle with bluff afterbody using CFD. FLUENT, commercial CFD code, is used to simulate high Reynolds number turbulent flows around the vehicle. The computed drag coefficients are compared to available experimental data at various Reynolds numbers. Four widely used two-equation turbulence models are investigated to evaluate their performance of predicting the anisotropic turbulence in a recirculating flow region, which is caused by flow separation arising from the base of the vehicle. The simulations with Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ SST turbulence models predict the anisotropic turbulent flows comparatively well and the drag prediction results with those models show good agreements with the experimental data.

  • It is important to predict the main feature of fully developed turbulent secondary flow through infinite triangular arrays of parallel rod bundles. One-equation turbulence model which include anisotropic eddy viscosity model was applied to predict the exact velocity field. For a constant properties, Reynolds equations were solved by the finite element method. Mean axial velocity near the wall is simulated by the law of the wall. The numerical results showed good agreement with avaiable experimental data. The strength of the secondary flow increased with Reynolds number but decreased with rod spacing, P/D (pitch-to-diameter). The secondary flow affects remarkably the distribution of the axial velocity, wall shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy in the closely packed rod array bundles.
