Lower leaves of aromatic tobacco are also much lower in Quality than upper leaves. So feasibility test of no harvesting and curing of lower leaves was conducted under high planting density and high nitrogen conditions with conventional cultural system. Effect of harvesting time on yield and Quality were investigated under 2 nitrogen levels. Among harvesting methods of conventional harvest with priming under high planting density, no-harvest of first priming, removal of lower leaves which relevant to first prime stalk before maturity, no-harvest of first and second priming. no-harvesting or pruning of first prime stalk before maturity was best in yield, price and in crude income. The shortor the harvest period became, the lower the yield, price and contents of reducing sugar and nicotine became, but reverse in this trends with total nitrogen and protein nitrogen. So 6 or 8 days interval of harvest is most recommendable.

Excess nitrogen (N) uptake of rice, which could cause much lodging, disease and reduction of rice quality, could be occurred at the paddy field with previous upland condition at which much soil N could be mineralized by soil-drying effect. N fertilizers of 0, 3, and 6 kg N $10a^{-1}$ were applied to early-maturity rice, cultivar Joanbyeo at the paddy field of first and second year after upland condition, and rice growth and nitrogen uptake were investigated to know the increase of rice N uptake at the paddy field with previous upland condition for one-year. Total dry matter (DM) and N uptake of rice at the paddy field with previous upland condition increased more than continuous paddy field. Total DM and N uptake of rice at the paddy field with previous upland condition increased linearly to N fertilizer 6 kg $10a^{-1}$ at the paddy field owing to vigorous growth compared to continuous paddy field. Rice N uptake was higher at the paddy field of the first year than the second year after upland condition in considering N uptake at the plot of no N fertilizer. Vigorous growth at the paddy field with previous upland condition resulted in higher rice yield which was related with high panicle and spikelet, but much N fertilizer as much as 6 kg $10a^{-1}$ at the paddy field with previous upland condition resulted in higher lodging and protein content of brown and milled rice. Particularly, protein content of brown and milled rice increased more when the same N fertilizer was applied two times splitly at transplanting and panicle initiation stage than when N fertilizer was applied one time at transplanting as basal N. N application with under 3 kg $10a^{-1}$ as only basal N was recommended at the paddy field with previous upland condition to obtain high quality rice without lodging.
In order to evaluate the effects of nitrogen (N) rate and application method on the recovery of N fertilizer applied in spring and summer by Satsuma mandarins (cv. Miyakawa Wase), N as urea was surface-applied at the rates of 50 (applied with 20 mm water; 50% N application) and 100% (three treatments; applied as solid, with 5 or 20 mm water) of the recommended rate ($150kg\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$) on 25 March and 12 June with an application ratio of 50 and 20%. The labeled N was applied only once in spring or summer. There were no differences among the four treatments in fruit yield, fruit quality except acid content of juice, and N content of leaves. The recovery of fertilizer N applied in spring by a tree ranged from 7.8 to 8.3% and that of N applied in summer ranged from 11.3 to 14.2% at the three recommended N rates and was 18.0% for the 50% N application. The recovery of fertilizer N applied in spring in the upper 40 cm of soil ranged from 32.1 to 37.7% at the three recommended N rates and was 55.8% at the 50% N application. For N applied in summer, it was 69.8% for surface application of the recommended N rate and ranged from 80.7 to 84.4% for the three N applications with water. The total (tree+soil) recovery of N fertilizer applied in spring was highest (64.1%) for the 50% N application and ranged from 40.3 to 45.5% for the three recommended N rates. The total recovery of N fertilizer applied in summer was also highest (99.4%) for the 50% N application and tended to be higher for the application of N with water than surface application and to increase with increasing irrigation amount of N application.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mixed-sowing of legume forage and applying of cattle manure on the productivity of organic rye to provide dairy farmers with safe organic feeds. Also the present study aimed to evaluate optimal applying level of cattle manure and carrying capacity of Korean native cattle (Hanwoo) per unit area. The amount of crude protein was significantly higher in the mixed-sowing of legume forage (average 760~786 kg/ha) than in the single-sowing of rye (average 353 kg/ha) (p<0.05). The mixed-sowing of forage peas and the single-sowing of rye tended to improve by increasing the level of nitrous fertilization rather than the fertilization treatment. The amount of crude protein on the rye according to the mixed-sowing of legume was significantly higher in the mixture (average 8.29~9.90%) than in the single (average 4.93%) (p<0.05). The comparison by the level of nitrogen fertilization indicated significantly high for the rye in 50 kg N/ha than in fertilization treatments (p<0.05). Total digestible nutrients (TDN) amount in the single-sowing of rye was average 46.86% and has lower than average 49.96~50.12% of the mixed-sowing of legume, and especially the mixed-sowing of forage pea was the highest with 54.55% in 150 kg N/ha for the level of nitrogen fertilization (p<0.05). The breeding ability of annual organic livestocks per unit area according to the feed value of rye presented significantly higher ability in the mixed-sowing of legume (3.72~4.12 heads) than the single-sowing of rye (average 2.26 heads) (p<0.05). By summarizing above results, the mixed-sowing of legume is required to improve the productivity and the feed value of rye for increasing organic livestock breeding ability in southern area of Gyeongbuk regions, and the study for identifying the appropriate fertilization level using livestock excretions is further necessary.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of concentrated pig slurry and byproduct liquid fertilizer on the growth and yield of chinese cabbage. The experiment was conducted in a rain-shelter house which was installed in the agriculture farm. Plants were fertilized with concentrated slurry (CS), byproduct fertilizer (BF), mixture of concentrated slurry and byproduct liquid fertilizer (CS+BF), combined organic and chemical fertilizer (CS+BF+BF) and chemical fertilizer (CF) as control. 1. The pH level of byproduct liquid was decreased from the 3rd to the 7th day and increased 9 day to 14th day, but pH of concentrated slurry (CS) was not greatly varied. EC of concentrated slurry (CS) and byproduct liquid was increased gradually during the fermentation. 2. The concentrated slurry (CS) was low in phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, rich in potassium and unbalanced as a low nitrogen and high potassium. But byproduct liquid fertilizer was balanced in nitrogen and potassium ratio. 3. The leaf number, head height, head width of chinese cabbage in treatment with organic and chemical fertilizer (CS+BF+N) showed significant difference compared with control. The plant and head weight of chinese cabbage in treatment of concentrated slurry was severely decreased, but that in treatment organic and chemical fertilizer (CS+BF+N) were increased 8, 10% compared with control chemical fertilizer (CF), respectively. 4. The content of $K_2O$ in plant tissue and in soil was increased after using concentrated slurry. On the other hand, mineral content of except $K_2O$ did not differ significantly between any of the treatments. In conclusion, organic and chemical fertilizer (CS+BF+N) could improve growth and head weight of chinese cabbage.
The objective of this research was to investigate the impact of Ca fertilizer on the growth of mother plants, physiological disorders, and occurrence of daughter plants in propagation of 'Seolhyang' strawberry through plastic bag cultivation. To achieve this, chemicals of 1.125 mM $Ca(OH)_2$, 0.375 mM $MgCl_2$, 1.250 mM KCl were blended and designated to combined fertilizer (CF). Then, the effect was compared to the treatment of no Ca application (control) and a commercial fertilizer, CalMag (13-0-1.9-16-6:N-$P_2O_5$-$K_2O$-CaO-MgO), when those were applied every two weeks with controlled electrical conductivity (EC) of solution such as 0.6 or 1.0 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The number of plants showing Ca deficiency symptoms was the highest in control treatment, but those decreased significantly in CF or CalMag treatments. The differences between CF and CalMag in appearance of Ca deficient plants were not significant when two fertilizers were applied with same EC. The fresh and dry weights of mother plants were the greater in the treatments of CF or CalMag than those of control treatment. The treatments of 1.0 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ of CF or CalMag were more effective than those of 0.6 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ on the fresh and dry weight of the mother plants. The runner lengths in the treatment of 1.0 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ of CF were the longest among the all treatments tested. The treatments of 1.0 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ were more effective than those of 0.6 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ of CF or CalMag in lengths and fresh and dry weight of runners. The fresh and dry weights of daughter plants were heavier in the treatments of CF than those of CalMag. Based on the above results, we concluded that the Ca deficiency in raising 'Seolhyang' strawberry can be lessened by the application of Ca containing fertilizers, but combined application of Ca, K and Mg was more effective than that of Ca alone for seedling production.

This field experiment was carried out to determine the effects of thirteen different fertilizer levels of nitrogen(N), phosphorus($P_2O_5$) and potassium($K_2O$) on the content of crude protein, crude fiber, mineral constituents of product and tree growth forest pasture with 40-50% shading. The experiment was arranged as a randomized block design and performed in the suburban forest of Suweon in 1984. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Crude protein content and total protein yield were higher in the plot of 28 and 42kg $N/_{10a}$, regardless of $P_2O_5\;and\;K_2O$ level, while those were the lowest in zero fertilizer and N-zero fertilizer plots. 2. The contents of lignin and silica were significantly low in the high N fertilizer level, and the contents of NDF, ADF, cellulose and hemicellulose were not affected by different fertilizer levels. However, the content of crude fiber tended to be low with high N, regardless of $P_2O_5\;and\;K_2O$. 3. The contents of N,K and $SiO_2$ of grasses were influenced by different fertilizer levels. However, those of P,Ca,Ma and Na showed little differences. 4. The recovery percentage of NPK was higher in the plot of standard fertilizer level with 28-20-24 kg/10a, and higher recovery percentage was observed in $K_2O$, followed by N and $P_2O_5$ in that order. 5. The growth of tree was increased as the level of N fertilizer was increased, but no such trend was noted by $P_2O_5\;and\;K_2O$ levels. 6. Crude protein, crude fiber, some mineral contituents of grasses, and growth of tree were influenced by N level, regardless of $P_2O_5\;and\;K_2O$. And the optimum fertilizer level of $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ seemed to be 28-20-24 kg/10a for the production of grasses with higher quality and more yield in the forest.
An incubation study was conducted to examine the effect of soil pH and temperature on nitrification potential of 8 different soil series applied with no-N and 200 ugN/g soil as a compound fertilizer at 60 % moisture content of maximum water holding capacity for 8 weeks, whose series were ranged from acid to mild alkali as Gopyeong(Jincheon, pH 4.51), Yesan(Jincheon, pH 4.54), Jigog(Eumseong, pH 4.71), Songsan(Goesan, pH 5.01), Angye(Seongju, pH 5.34), Banho(Seongju, pH 5.73), Weongog(Jincheon, pH 5.93), and Banho(Seongju, pH 7.70), respectively. Interrelationship between the nitrifiable and the net $NO_3-N$(N added plot-no-N plot) accumulated in the soil and tobacco yield in the no fertilizer plot were investigated as well. 1. Nitrification response was various according to soil characteristics at each temperature condition showing that nitrifiable $NO_3-N$ values of the soils were much higher at $25^{\circ}C$ than $15^{\circ}C$. And difference of nitrification potential affected by temperature was markedly distinguishable from 2 weeks after incubation and was showing a tendency to reduce with increasing of soil pH. 2. At each temperature condition, net $NO_3-N$ accumulated at 2 and 4 weeks after incubation was positively correlated with soil pH. 3. Tobacco yield in the no fertilizer plot was more highly correlated with the values of nitrifiable and net $NO_3-N$ accumulated at $15^{\circ}C$ similar to soil temperature in rhizosphere of early stage of tobacco growth than those at optimum temperature($25^{\circ}C$).
Understanding the net nutrient balance in a farming system is crucial in assessing the system's sustainability. We quantified N, P and K balances under vegetable organic farming in a Eutric Haplud and in West Java, Indonesia in five planting seasons from 2005 to 2007. The ten treatments and three replications, arranged in a completely randomized block design, included single or combined sources of organic fertilizers: barnyard manure, compos ts or green manures. The organic matter rates were adjusted every planting season depending on the previous crop responses. The result sshowed that the application of ${\geq}20$ t $ha^{-1}$ barnyard manure per crop resulted in positive balances of N, P, and K, except in the second crops of 2006 where potassium balance were -25 to -11 kg $ha^{-1}$ under the treatments involving cattle barnyard manure, because of low K content of these treatments and high K uptake by Chinese cabbage. Application of 20 to 25 t $ha^{-1}$ of plant residue or 5 t $ha^{-1}$ of Tithonia compost also resulted in a negative K balance. Soil available P increased significantly under ${\geq}25$ t $ha^{-1}$ barnyard manure and that under chicken manure had the highest available P. Accordingly, chicken barnyard manure gave the highest crop yield because of relatively higher N, P, and K contents. Plant residues gave the lowest yield due to the lowest nutrient content among all sources. Reducing the use of barnyard manure to 12.5 t $ha^{-1}$ and substituting it with Tithonia compost, Tithonia green manure or vegetable plant residue compost gave insignificantly different yield compared to the application of 25 t $ha^{-1}$ barnyard manure singly. In the long run, application of 25 t ha-1 cattle, goat, and horse manure or about 20 t $ha^{-1}$ chicken manure is recommendable for sustaining the fertility of this Andisol for vegetable production.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of long-term continuous application of fertilizers for rice cultivation from 1954 to 2003. Changes of physical and chemical properties of paddy soil and the rice yield by continuous application of fertilizers, particularly rice straw compost, over fifty years were discussed in this paper. The rice yields of compost applied plots were 5~12% higher while those of no fertilizer plots were 21~38% lower compared to those of NPK fertilizers applied plots. Uptakes of T-N, $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$, CaO, MgO, and $SiO_2$ by rice plants were significantly increased by the application of straw compost. Bulk density, hardness, and liquid phase of soil in compost applied plots were significantly decreased while gaseous phase and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of soil were increased compare to those in NPK plots. When the bulk density of soil was increased the rice yield was decreased. The soil organic matter (SOM) content tended to increase in compost applied plots whereas no significant differences were found in other treatments. The soil organic matter content increased by $0.4g\;kg^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ when $7.5Mg\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ of rice straw compost applied in paddy land. The compost application rate recommendation for rice cultivation in Korea could be revised by the results of this study.
