Output Signal Characteristics according to Input Signal Characteristics of Two Input Ports in 4-port Coupler Circuit (4단자 커플러 회로에서의 두 개 단자의 입력 신호 특성에 따른 출력 신호 특성)

  • The four-port coupler circuit consists of input port, isolation port and two output ports. When it inserts a signal at the input port and the isolation port, the magnitude and phase of the output signal at two output ports are decided by the magnitude and phase of the input signal. This paper analyzes the output signal characteristic of two output ports due to the input signal magnitude and phase of two input ports using the typical 4-port coupler circuit, Branchline hybrid coupler and Ring-hybrid coupler. And, it studies about new way to use branchline hybrid coupler and ring-hybrid coupler on the basis of the this information.

  • 본 논문에서는 공통 결함접지구조를 이용하여 브랜치 라인 하이브리드 커플러 회로를 소형화하여 설계한 결과를 제시한다. 브랜치 라인 하이브리드 커플러 회로는 가장 널리 쓰이는 전자파회로중 하나이다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 공통 결함접지구조를 이용하여 소형화한 커플러 회로는 크기가 소형화되었음에도 불구하고, 기존 커플러 구조와 유사한 정합, 격리 및 전력분배 특성을 보여준다.

Dual-Band Branch-Line Coupler Using Shorted Stubs (단락 스터브를 이용한 이중대역용 브랜치 라인 커플러의 설계)

  • This letter presents a shorted-stub tapped branch-line coupler for dual-band applications. In the new design, a shorted stub is used to realize 90 phase change at two frequencies. Closed-form design equations are derived to find the characteristic impedance and electrical length of the proposed branch lines using the ABCD-matrix. To verify the design concept, a microstrip coupler operating at 0.8 and 1.85 GHz is fabricated and measured.

A Low-loss Phase Shifter with Harmonics Suppression Using Compact Hybrid Coupler (소형 하이브리드 커플러를 이용한 고조파가 억압된 저손실 위상 변위기)

  • In this paper, a compact low-loss reflector-type phase shifter with harmonic suppression using meander T-shaped branch-line coupler is suggested. The compact coupler for the phase shifter has a size of $22.2{\times}14.9mm^2$ while a conventional branch coupler has a size of $32.6{\times}27.8mm^2$. The phase shifter shows insertion losses of 0.19-0.28 dB at the center frequency of 2.1 GHz, and a measured maximum phase shift of $137^{\circ}$.

  • This paper presents the modified design that can reject the harmonic signals in the branch-line coupler. After adding open stubs at the center of quarter-wavelength lines of the traditional design, all network parameters can be determined by network equivalence, in order to maintain the conventional function at the operating frequency and suppress its harmonic terms to de chosen. Experimental results show the second and third harmonic suppressions to be -37.5 and -42.7dBs, while maintaining conventional performance at the fundamental frequency.

Design of Millimeterwave Branch-Line Coupler Using Flip-Chip Technology (플립 칩 기술을 이용한 밀리미터파 대역 브랜치라인 커플러의 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a novel branch-line coupler using filp-chip technology. The proposed coupler consists of CPW and inverted microstrip. The CPW is on the GaAs flip-chip substrate, and the inverted microstrip is on the alumina main substrate. The ground plane of the CPW is used as a ground plane of the inverted microstrip. And both the transmission lines are connected by solder bump with each other. The characteristics of thisstructure was calculated by FDTD method. The S21, S31 are -3dB and the phase difference is $90^{\circ}$. The calculated characteristics are the same as those of the regular branch-line coupler. This structure can be applied for various kinds of devices using flipchip technology.

A variable power divider circuit using the combine characteristic of the branchline coupler (브랜치라인 커플러 결합을 이용한 가변 전력 분배기 회로)

  • The proposed variable pawer divider in this paper is composed of one equal power 2-way Wilkinson power divider, two variable phase shifters with 90-degree phase variation to be connected two output paths of the 2-way power divider, and one branchline coupler to combine output signals of two variable phase shifter. The proposed variable power divider can theoretically have an arbitrary power division ratio ranging from ${\infty}:1$ to ${\infty}:1$ due to 90-degrees phase variation of two phase shifter. The proposed power divider circuit fabricates on laminated TLX-9(h=20 mil, er=2.5; Taconic) with a center frequency of 1.7 GHz. The power division ratio of the fabricated prototype varies from about 1:100 to 200:1, with an input reflection characteristic(S11) of below -16 dB, an insertion loss of about -1.0 dB, and an isolation characteristic of below -17 dB between two output ports in the range 1.65-1.75 GHz.

Design of A Asymmetric Branch Line Coupler Using Artificial Dielectric Substrate (가유전체 기판을 이용한 비대칭 브랜치 라인 커플러의 설계)

  • In this paper, the design of asymmetric branch line couplers using artificial dielectric substrate (ADS) is described. The effective permittivity and permeability increase in ADS because of the lots of the inserted via-holes. So the physical length and width of transmission lines realized on ADS are reduced compared to the standard lines. This enables one to design size-reduced microwave circuits. As an instance in this work, an asymmetric branch line coupler with the ratio of 3:1 is designed at 2GHz. The designed coupler has a small size of 53.4% compared to the normal circuit while the same performances are preserved. A good agreement between the simulated and measured asymmetric power dividing ratio is shown. The measured loss is only less than 0.2dB, which is a very small value.

  • 본 논문은 CPW 발룬을 이용한 평형증폭기 설계에 대하여 기술한다. 종래의 평형증폭기에서 널리 사용되는 윌킨슨 전력분배기, 브랜치 라인 하이브리드 커플러에 이어 발룬도 평형증폭기를 구성하는데 사용될 수 있음을 보인다. 이로부터 발룬을 이용해서도 평형증폭기의 반사손실 대역폭을 향상시킬 수 있음을 보인다. CPW 발룬 및 단일증폭기를 사전에 제작하여 특성을 측정했으며, 이를 이용하여 평형증폭기를 설계하였다. 측정결과 제안한 CPW 평형증폭기의 특성이 단일증폭기에 비하여 대역폭 등에서 매우 유리했으며, 특히 종래의 브랜치 라인 하이브리드를 이용한 발룬보다 동작 대역폭 특성이 더 우수하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 X-Band용 두 개의 발진기를 사용하여 중간결합을 통한 위상잡음 특성을 개선할 목적으로 중간동기결합 구조의 발진기를 제안하였다. 제안된 구조는 각각의 발진기는 Hai-Pin을 이용한 발진기로 설계를 하였으며, 두 발진기가 중간결합을 위해 갖는 위상차는 발진기들의 바이어스를 이용하여 조정을 한다. 제안된 구조의 수치계산을 통한 설계, 하드웨어 구현 및 실험을 통해 측정된 결과를 제시하였으며, 측정 결과로 위상잡음 특성이 약 100dBc/Hz 개선됨을 보였다.
