In this paper, reliability analysis was done on the characteristics of consolidation and settlement for the inner temporary dike where a weak ground improvement construction was applied. When the consolidation analysis on the foundation ground was done, the following conclusions were obtained by conducting the stability analysis on the effect of space of drains, the effect of consolidation time, and the residual settlement and differential settlement. When construction was done with a drain space which satisfied 95% probability of reaching a target consolidation in each divided area, the occurrence of a residual settlement was within the range, which did not exceed 10cm. It was shown that there was almost no possibility of the occurrence of differential settlement, which was above the permissible differential settlement slope.

According to the recent tendency that the buildings in the downtown are gradually Manhattanized, the very thick massive concrete is selected as the foundation of architectures. By the way, because this mass concrete cannot be simultaneously pour in a great quantity due to the circumstance at the field, not only the questions on the unification between the concretes pour on the upper layer and the lower layer are presented but also the cracks by the internal force from the difference of hydration exothermic period are occurred, which are pointed out as the problems. Thus, this study performed Mock-up test to apply the hydration heat controlling method of massive concrete for horizontal partition pouring construction to the building sites for the purpose of securing the stability on the cracks by the internal force from the difference of hydration exothermic period on the upper layer and the lower layer of massive concrete and checked the efficiency. As the results of test, in case of setting time difference method by super retarder with 2 layers and 4 layers, the effect that temperature gaps between upper part and lower part were lowered and the possibility of crack occurrence was decreased as the peak time of the heat of hydration became delayed to the latter term could be confirmed.

Ultra High Strength Concrete(UHSC) is necessary a clear presentation about mechanical property that is different from normal strength concrete and an evaluation of serviceability of high rise building which is used ultra high strength concrete. To mixing ultra high strength concrete with $f_{ck}$=150MPa pre-mix cement were manufactured and experimental study were conducted to evaluated on the mixing properties and compressive strength with major variables as unit cement contents, water-binder ratio and type of pre-mix cement. As a test result, it is shown that the concrete mixing time is required about 5$^{\sim}$6 minute untill the each materials(ordinary portland cement, silica fume, blast-furnace slag powder and anhydrite) are revitalized enough. A slump flow of fresh concrete are shown about 700$^{\sim}$750mm with proper viscosity. And average value of concrete compressive strength are shown about 77% in 7days, 87% in 14days and 102% in 56days for 28days of concrete material age. From this experimental study, a proper mixture proportion of pre-mix cement are recommended about 54$^{\sim}$59% OPC, 25$^{\sim}$30% blast-furnace slag powder and 10$^{\sim}$15% silica fume for mix the ultra high strength concrete with $f_{ck}$=150MPa.

This study is designed to reduction of hydration heat of 4 layer division-placed mass concrete considering the difference of setting time of super retarding agent. According to the results, peak temperature of plain concrete by hydration heat show $63^{\circ}C$ around the age of 1 days. Hydration heat is lowest in the bottom layer, and highest in the middle of 3rd layer from the bottom. Hydration heat of mock up structure, which is division-placed at the same interval of 1 and 2 days by setting time difference of super retarding agent, is highest in the bottom layer because after peak temperature of 4th layer, hydration reaction progresses in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer. But in mock up structure which is division-placed at the various interval. peak temperature by hydration heat is reduced by about $13^{\circ}C$, compared with plain concrete because after first peak hydration heat of 4th layer (plain concrete), hydration reaction progresses after the drop of hydration heat in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer.

This paper evaluates the effect of hot weather conditions on the fresh concrete characteristics of 80-MPa high-strength concrete. The slump flow, packing ability, setting time, hydration heat, and compressive strength were evaluated under exterior temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, and $40^{\circ}C$. The slump flow, arrival speed of 500 mm, and their changes with the elapsed time were found to bring the occurrence of rapid slump loss forward by about 30 minutes when increasing the temperature by $10^{\circ}C$ from $20^{\circ}C$. The initial and final setting times of the concrete at $20^{\circ}C$ were 7 hours and 12 hours, which were reduced by 1 hour and 3 hours at $30^{\circ}C$ and by 2 hours and 5 hours at $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. The hydration heat characteristics at $20^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ were similar in terms of the highest temperature of the concrete casting depth and the time when the maximum temperature occurred. However, at $40^{\circ}C$, the maximum temperature occurred about 4 hours earlier, and the highest temperature per the concrete casting depth increased by about $12^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is concluded that the characteristics can vary according to the exterior temperature. Thus, quality assurance should consider workability, temperature cracks due to hydration heat, the properties of strength development, and other characteristics.

Recently, the number of high-rise buildings being built in Korea by major construction companies for residential and commercial use has been increasing. When constructing a high-rise building, it is necessary to apply massive amounts of concrete to form a mat foundation that can withstand the huge load of the upper structure. However, it is of increasing concern that due to limitations in terms of the amount of placing equipment, available job-sites and systems for mass concrete placement in the construction field, it is not always possible to place a great quantity of concrete simultaneously in a large-scale mat foundation, and for this reason consistency between placement lift cannot be secured. In addition, a mat foundation Is likely to crack due to the stress caused by differences inhydration heat generation time. To derive a solution for these problems, this study provides test results of a hydration heat crack reduction method by applying placement lift change and setting time control with a super retarding agent for mass concrete in a large-scale mat foundation. Mock-up specimens with different mixtures and placement liftswere prepared at the job-site of a newly-constructed high-rise building. The test results show that slump flow of concrete before and after adding the super retarding agent somewhat Increases as the target retarding time gets longer, while the air content shows no great difference. The setting time was observed to be retarded as the target retarding time gets longer. As the target retarding time gets longer, compressive strength appears to be decreased at an early stage, but as time goes by, compressive strength gets higher, and the compressive strength at 28 days becomes equal or higher to that of plain concrete without a super retarding agent. For the effect of placement lift change and super retarding agent on the reduction of hydration heat, the application of 2 and 4 placement lifts and a super retarding agent makes it possible to secure consistency and reduce temperature difference between placement lifts, while also extending the time to reach peak temperature. This implies that the possibility of thermal crack induced by hydration heat is reduced. The best results are shown in the case of applying 4 placement lifts.
Concrete, the mixture of cement, sand, gravel and water, is a suspension substance extensively used to construct building materials. When a concrete mortar is applied to the underwater construction, the rheology of concrete is of great importance to its flow performance, placement, anti-washout and consolidation. In this research, the anti-washout and rheological properties of concrete have been investigated with concrete admixtures prepared by adding anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, and polymeric thickeners. The concrete mortar formulated by pseudo-polymeric systems with the electrostatic association of anionic and cationic surfactants, showed high viscosities and suitable anti-washout properties, but poor pumpabilities. The addition of poly methyl vinyl ether to the mixed surfactant system exhibits synergistic effects by improving the concrete mortar properties of the concrete mortar such as fluidity, visco-elastic property, self-leveling, and anti-washout.

In summer and winter, the difference between the temperature during the day and that during the night is high, which leads to various problems during concrete placement, such as cracks and defects in the concrete as well as low durability and strength. Although nuclear power plant concrete is widely used for placement in all seasons, particular attention must be paid to its quality during the summer. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of a cooling method for mixing water, which is a commonly used hot weather precooling method, and the use of a retarder, on the characteristics of Nuclear Power Plant concrete. In the cooling method for mixing water, cold water at 5 was used, with 50% of the water content consisting of ice flakes. The effects of using a retarder were evaluated by reviewing the characteristics of the cement at the unset stage and after hardening. To evaluate the characteristics of the unset cement, we measured the slump, air volumes, setting times, and pressure strengths after hardening. Furthermore, we measured the heat of hydration at different temperatures; the loss of heat was minimized using insulation. Both the slump time and the complete ageing time of the air volume were found to be 120 min at $20^{\circ}C$ and 40 min at $40^{\circ}C$. In the case when the cooling method for mixing water was used and in the case when a retarder was used, the initial and final sets by penetration resistance were delayed, and the delay decreased with increasing air temperature. For the heat of hydration, the cooling method for mixing water not only lowered the maximum temperature but also delayed its attainment. However, the use of a retarder had no effect on the maximum temperature. Moreover, in the early ages (e.g., 3 and 7 days), the pressure strength of the concrete was lower than that of plain cement. However, the strength of 28-day concrete met the standard construction specifications.
Most concrete gravity-type dams in and out of the country were constructed by column method to control cracks caused by concrete hydration heat generated during construction, resulting in a certain level of leakage after impoundment through various causes, such as contraction joints and construction joints. However, due to the characteristics of concrete structures that shrink and expand according to temperature, concrete dams have vertical joints and drains to allow penetration. PVC waterproof shows excellent effects in completion of the dam, which however increases the possibility of interfacial failure due to different thermal expansion. Other causes of penetration may include problems with quality control during installation, generation of cracks due to heat of hydration of concrete, waterproofing methods, etc. In the case of Bohyunsan Dam in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, the amount of drainage in the gallery was checked and underwater, and it was confirmed that there are many penetrations from drainage holes connected to vertical joints, and that some of the PVC waterproofs are not fully operated. As a new method to prevent penetration through vertical joints, D.S.I.M. (Dam Sealing Innovation Method) developed by World E&C was applied to Bohyunsan Dam and checked the amount of drainage in the gallery. As a result of first testing three most leaking vertical joints, the drain in the gallery was reduced by 87% on the average and then applied to the remaining 13 locations, which showed a 83% reduction effect based on the total drain in the gallery. Summing up these results, it was found that D.S.I.M. preventing water leakage from the upstream face is a valid construction method to reduce the water see-through and penetration quantity seen in downstream faces of concrete dams. If D.S.I.M. is applied to other concrete dams at domestic and abroad, it is expected that it will be very effective to prevent water leakage through vertical joints that are visible from downstream faces.
