범주형 자료에서 연관성 측도들의 비교 분석

  • 연속형 변수들의 상관관계와 범주형 변수들의 연관성 측도들을 비교 연구하였다. 이 연구를 위하여 연속형 변수들이며 +1에서 -1까지 완벽한 상관관계를 갖고 있는 2 변량 정규분포를 이용하여 2$\times$2 분할표와 확장하여 일반적인 I$\times$J 분할표를 대신하는 3$\times$3 분할표를 생성하였다. 2 차원 분할표에서 정의된 연관성 측도들을 구하여 논의하였는데 2$\times$2 분할표에서는 교차적비 $\alpha$ 통계량과 교차적비의 함수로 표현되는 Yule [1912]의 Q와 Y의 통계량 그리고 상관계수 R 통계량과 R 통계량의 함수인 P 통계량을 설명하고 생성된 분할표에서 구한 통계량값을 분석하였으며, 3$\times$3 분할표에서는 Pearson의 독립성 검정통계량 $X^2$의 함수로 표현되는 P. T. V 통계량과 Goodman과 Kruskal [1954]의 $\lambda_{C/R}$통계량과 Light와 Margolin [1971]의 $\tau_{R/C}$ 통계량을 설명하고 그 값들을 Pearson의 상관계수와 비교 분석하였다.

  • A fast algorithm for the restoration of an images based on chain codes description using y-axis partition of the starting and ending ponts. The algorithm is to convert the chain codes description into the two y-axis partitions by proposed look-up table. It reduces the size of column elements as a half in y-axis partition. this technique is computationally faster than Shih's methods. comparision of the proposed method and Shih method is also provided.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze characteristics of teachers' knowledge about correlation with data presented in $2{\times}2$ tables. In order to achieve the aim, this study conducted didactical analysis about two-way tables through examining previous researches and developed a questionnaire with reference to the results of the analysis. The questionnaire was given to 53 middle and high school teachers and qualitative methods were used to analyze the data obtained from the written responses by the participants. This study also elaborated the framework descriptors for interpreting the teachers' responses in the light of the didactical analysis and the data was elucidated in terms of this framework. The specific features of teachers' knowledge about correlation with data presented in $2{\times}2$ tables were categorized into three types as a result. This study raised several implications for teachers' professional development for effective mathematics instruction about correlation and related concepts dealt with in probability and statistics.

  • If the given information is exact, though it is the little, we had better use it than not use in analysis. In this article, the problem of independence test in a contingency table is considered when two marginal distributions of a population are given exactly. For that case, a likelihood-ratio chi-squared test statistic and its Pearsonian type chi-squared test statistic are derived. By Monte Carlo Simulations the traditional chi-square tests and the derived tests are compared. And the related some testing problems are synthetically explained on a geometrical viewpoint.

  • 범주형 자료분석에서 차원축소(collapsibility)는 오즈비로 설명되었다. 실제의 $2\times2\timesK$ 분할표 자료를 이 이론에 적용시켰을 때 오즈비의 값으로 차원축소가 가능한지의 여부를 판단하기는 어렵다. 오즈비를 시각적으로 표현하는 방법 중에서 Doi, Nakamura와 Yamamoto(2001)가 제안한 Contour plot을 통해서 분할표 자료를 설명하는 것은 가능하지만 차원축소의 가능성을 결정하기에는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 오즈비의 신뢰구간을 시각적으로 표현할 수 있는 방법으로 Barrowman과 Myers(2003)가 제안한 Raindrop plot을 이용하여 $P_{\lambda,;,T}^M-policy$ 분할표 자료를 설명할 수 있으며 동시에 차원축소의 가능성을 판단할 수 있는 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

Small sample tests for two-way contingency tables (2원 분할표의 소표본 검증법)

  • Chi-square test based on large sample theory is inappropriate for testing the row homogeneity in two-way contingency table with several sparse cells. For that case, exact testing methods has been developed in the literature and implemented in StatXact(1991). However, considerable computing time is inevitable for moderate size tables. So, Monte Carlo approximation is recommended frequently. In this study, we propose a simple algorithm for generating two-way random tables with fixed row and column margins for small sample chi-square test. Also, we develop “Turkey-type” method for multiple between-row comparisons.

Generating Multidimensional Random Tables (다차원 임의 분할표 생성)

  • We suggest a method for generating multidimensional random tables based on the log-linear models. A linear combination approach by Lee(1997) is applied to get the joint distribution with the well known Pearson chi-squared statistics. We can generate completely associated joint distributions which have the fixed association among three variables by using the suggested method. Therefore the method can be extended to more higher dimension than the three dimensional tables.

  • For estimating missing cells in contingency table, we suggest an iterative method which extends IPF (Iterative Proportional Fitting) method. The suggested m~thod is not restricted by the number and the location of missing cells, and does not distort the given quasi-independency.

Analysis of Large Tables (대규모 분할표 분석)

  • For the analysis of large tables formed by many categorical variables, we suggest a method to group the variables into several disjoint groups in which the variables are completely associated within the groups. We use a simple function of Kullback-Leibler divergence as a similarity measure to find the groups. Since the groups are complete hierarchical sets, we can identify the association structure of the large tables by the marginal log-linear models. Examples are introduced to illustrate the suggested method.
