Performance Evaluation of Distributed Cooperative MAC Protocol Algorithm for Enhancing Multimedia QoS of WiMedia Communication Network (와이미디어 통신네트워크의 멀티미디어 QoS 개선을 위한 분산협력방식 MAC 프로토콜 성능분석)

  • In this paper, an efficient technique for enhancing the QoS of multimedia service for an WiMedia network applying distributed cooperative medium access (D-MAC) protocol is proposed. D-MAC protocol has been proposed to support high-rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (HR-WPANs) by the WiMedia Alliance. Unlike the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, the D-MAC UWB specified by WiMedia supports all devices to be self-organized and removes the SOP (Simultaneous Operating Piconet) problem, i.e., packet collisions between overlapped piconets in the centralized IEEE 802.15.3 MAC. However the WiMedia D-MAC can't prevent reduce the throughput degradation occurred by mobile nodes with low data rate. Therefore, a distributed cooperative MAC protocol for multi-hop UWB network is proposed in this paper. The proposed technique can intelligently select the transmission path with higher data rate to provide real-time multimedia services with minimum delay, thus enhances QoS of multimedia service.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method to extend certain cognitive radio (CR) MAC protocols originally proposed only for the one hop applications in distributed CR networks to MANET routing protocols. Among several CR MAC protocols, the opportunistic MAC (called O-MAC) and the opportunistic period MAC (called OP-MAC) are considered, and AODV as MANET routing protocol is used. We implement the protocols using OPNET network simulator, and compare the performances in both MAC and AODV routing environments. With the experiments, we analyze the relationship between MAC and routing performances of the CR protocols.

  • 최근 인터넷을 대상으로 한 사이버 공격의 공격 경향은 분산 환경에서 다수 공격자의 대규모 분산 서비스 거부 공격(DoS)의 출현 및 해외 해커들의 국내 전산망을 우회 루트로 활용한 사례의 증가 등 고도화된 불법 행위가 점차 범죄의 강력한 수단으로 이용되는 추세에 있다. 본 논문은 기존 네트워크에서 해당 네트워크의 침입자의 트래픽 차단 방법의 취약점을 보완하여 2-MAC 인증 패킷을 이용한 효율적인 공격자 추적기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방식은 기존 시스템에서의 NIC(Network Interface Card)의 물리적 주소인 MAC(Media Access Control)과 메시지 인증코드(MAC: Message Authentication Code)를 이용한 방식을 제안하였다.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative communication protocol adaptive to current UWB link transmission rate. The proposed cooperative communication protocol has compatibility with current WiMedia D-MAC and Wireless USB standard and is executed at each device according to a Relay Node Selection (RNS) criterion.

  • We present the implementation of MAC system for MBOA UWB SoC. The implemented MBOA MAC algorithm is not master control mechanism, but distributed network mechanism. Therefore, mesh network can be easily constructed because MAC consists of distributed network and administrates network. The ARM926EJ with cache is adopted for high performnace and AMBA bus is applied for system design and reuse. In addition, the system operating clock management algorithm is implemented for low power consumption. The dedicated DMA for MAC is designed between the system memory buffer and MAC hardware, and the dedicated DMA for USB 2.0 is also implemented between system memory buffer and host for high data transaction.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and Wireless USB. In this paper, firstly, the fair SoQ-based Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) for D-MAC is analyzed. And a novel SoQ-based relay transmission protocol is proposed to overcome DRP conflicts fast. In the proposed protocol, each device executes the Satisfaction of QoS (SoQ) time slot allocation algorithm independently. And, in order to give the loser device due to DRP conflicts another chance to maintain QoS resources, the proposed relay transmission protocol helps the device reserve another indirect link maintaining the required QoS resources via a relay node.

  • The WiMedia Alliance has specified a Distributed Medium Access Control (D-MAC) protocol based on UWB for high speed wireless home networks and WPANs. The WiMedia D-MAC fundamentally removes the problems of the centralized MAC revealed at IEEE 802.15.3 MAC, by adopting a distributed architecture. However, there is no completely distributed method for allocating fair data rates to all traffic streams by considering each stream's QoS parameter. In this paper, a novel fair distributed QoS admission control method is proposed. The proposed method is a fair, adaptive QoS provisioning method, by allocating time slots to devices according to the current traffic load condition, through executing only a proposed single satisfaction of QoS (SoQ) algorithm at each device.

  • 본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11 규격을 기반으로 다중 홉 Ad Hoc 모드에서 비 실시간 및 실시간 트래픽에 대한 통합 서비스를 지원하는 Wireless LAN을 구성할 때, 분산 방식으로 실시간 서비스의 우선권을 고려한 채널 액세스의 차별화를 제공할 수 있는 매체접근제어(Medium Access Control: MAC) 프로토콜의 구현 방안을 제안한다. 이를 위해 실시간과 비 실시간 트래픽의 Contention Window (CW)를 서로 분리하며, 실시간 서비스의 지연 바운드에 따라 정해진 잔여 수명(residual time)을 우선권 설정에 반영함으로써 실시간 트래픽의 지연 요구 사항을 보장할 수 있도록 한다. 또한 실시간 트래픽의 부하에 따라서 적응적으로 offset 값을 조정함으로써 offset에 의해 발생될 수 있는 수율의 저하를 최소화한다. 제안된 방식은 기존 IEEE 802.11 MAC 규격의DCF (Distributed Coordination function) 방식을 그대로 사용하면서 CSMA/CA 기반의 경쟁 방식을 통해서도 비 실시간 트래픽과의 차별화가 가능하고, 또한 잔여 수명 시간을 고려한 동적인 우선권 할당이 가능하도록 하였다. 시뮬레이션에 의한 분석 결과에 따르면 기존 DCF와 비교할 때 실시간 단말의 용량을 2배까지 향상시킬 수 있으며, 트래픽 부하에 따라 적응적 제어를 통해 추가적인 성능 개선 효과를 확인하였다.
