Study on induction air swirl in D.I. diesel engine (직접분사식 디젤기관의 흡입공기 선회강도에 대한 고찰)

  • 직접분사식 디젤기관의 성능과 배기가스 문제에 여향을 주는 실린더 내에서의 연소형태는 크게 연료분사계와 흡입공기 유동계 두 가지에 의해 결정된다. 즉 분사율, 부사시기, 분무형태와 같은 분사계의 특성과 공기선회, 스퀴시(squish), 난류와 같은 공기 유동 특성에 의하여 연소형태가 결 정된다. 이러한 복잡한 연소형테를 기관 특성에 맞게 조정한다는 것은 대단히 어려운 문제인데 이것은 연료화 공기의 혼합이 연소실형상과 흡기계의 형상에 큰 영향을 받으며 연료가 액체 상 태로 연소실내로 들어와 분무과정을 통하여 증발이 되어야만 연소가 가능하기 때문이다. 특히 흡입공기 유동계에 있어서 현재의 직접 분사식 대젤기관의 흡입구 형상은 흡입공기의 운동에너 지에 모멘트를 가하여 연소실내에서 공기의 선희(swirl)를 발생시켜 줌으로써 연료와 공기의 혼 합기를 형성시키는 Helical type이 많이 이용되고 있다. 그러나 기관 성능과 배기가스 특히 NOx는 상반관계를 이루기 때문에 연소실내로 들어오는 흡입공기의 선희강도(swirl ratio)를 너무 강하게만 한다고 하여 좋은 결과를 얻을 수는 없다. 따라서 설계하고자 하는 각 기관에 있어서 요구되는 성능과 배기가스 문제를 만족하는 흡입공기의 선희강도가 얻어질 수 있도록 흡입구 형상을 설계한다는 것은 많은 연구와 경험이 요구되고 있다. 본 자료에서는 직접분사식 디젤기 관에 있어서 흡입공기의 최적 선희강도에 대한 설정방법과 흡입구 형상 설계를 위한 설계 이론 및 정상류 Rig test상에서의 흡입공기 선희강도의 평가방법을 소개하고자 한다.

An Analytical Study on Characteristics of a Diesel Injection System (디젤분사계의 특성에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • It is well-known that the fuel injection system if a diesel engine has taken a more important place in understanding of diesel combustion process with combustion chamber. But a diesel fuel injection system has an assembly of many complex and intricate problems such as the desired rate of injection, secondary injection and injection pump etc., in addition to the atomization for ignition and combustion, the penetration and diestribution for proper utilization of air. The analysis is carried out by simplifing and modeling the injection phenomena and dividing into three parts comprising of fuel injection pump, high pressure pipe and fuel injection nozzle. The purpose of this paper is to describe an analytical simulation of the injection system and to speed up the work of developing injection systems for new engines. The effects of important injection parameters as predicted by the present model are found to be in good agreement with experiment. It can be seen that there is an optimal pipe diameter for maximum quantity injected.

Effect of pre-post injection timing of diesel fuel for naval vessel on the combustion and emission characteristics in an optically-accessible single cylinder diesel engine (단기통 디젤엔진에서 함정용 디젤유의 전·후 분사시기가 연소 및 배출가스 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study is focused on the analyzing combustion, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emission characteristics of marine diesel oil, utilized for naval propulsion engine, with varying pre-post injection timing of an optically accessible single cylinder engine. And also the combustion process is analyzed by means of a high speed camera visualization. On the result of retarding pre-injection timing toward main injection timing, the mean effective pressure and maximum pressure of combustion chamber are increased; however, the heat release rate is decreased. Furthermore, the emission rates of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon are reduced in this case. In hence, when a post-injection timing is advanced, the mean effective pressure and maximum pressure are increased, because the combustion has been performed under the high temperature and high pressurized environment during main injection time, and the emission rates of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon are increased. From the experimental results, it considered that retarding of pre-injection timing affects to shorten the ignition delay of main injection clearly, and to raise the flame intensity comparing to the advanced state. The ignition delay during post-injection is not appeared at any post-injection time, but the flame intensity has been weakened gradually according to the retarding of post-injection timing.

  • Autonomous fire detection and suppression system requires advanced technology for complex detection technology and injection/control technology for accurate hitting by fire location. Also, foam spraying should be included to respond to oil fires. However, when a single spray monitor is used in common, water and foam spray properties appear different, so for accurate fire suppression, research on the spray trajectory and distance will be required. In this study, experimental studies and numerical analysis studies were combined to analyze the foam spray characteristics through the spray monitor developed for the establishment of an autonomous fire extinguishing system. For flow analysis of foam injection, modeling was performed using OpenFOAM analysis software, and the commonly used foaming agent (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) was applied for foam properties. The injection distance analysis was performed according to the injection pressure and the injection angle according to the form of the foam, and at the same time, the results were verified and presented through the injection experiment.

  • 액체의 미립화는 액체연료의 연소를 위한 분무, 분무 도장, 농약 살포, 의료기기, 용융 금속의 금속 분말의 제조 등의 여러분야에 널리 이용되고 있다. 특히 연소 기관은 액체 연료의 미립화와 증발 특성에 따라 기관의 연소와 성능은 크게 변화하므로 연소실 내의 연료 미립화 특성의 개선은 매우 중요하다. 미립화에 영향을 미치는 인자에는 연료의 물성과 분사 기구 및 분사 밸브 등의 구조와 분사압력 등은 연료 미립화에 주된 영향을 미치는 요인의 하나가 되고 있다. 여기서는 주로 액체연료의 미립화에 일반적인 기초 사항과 분무 특성의 표시 방법, 측정법에 대하여 기술하기로 한다.

  • Several types of reactors have been used during the past decade to perform fast pyrolysis of biomass. Among the developed fast pyrolysis reactors, fluidized bed reactors have been widely used in the fast pyrolysis process. In recent years, experimental studies have been conducted on the characteristics of biomass fast pyrolysis in a spouted bed reactor. The fluidization characteristics of a spouted bed reactor are influenced by particle properties, fluid jet velocity, and the structure of the core and annulus. The geometry of the spouted bed reactor is the main factor determining the structure of the core and annulus. Accordingly, to optimize the design of a spouted bed reactor, it is necessary to study the pyrolysis characteristics of biomass. However, no detailed investigations have been made of the fast pyrolysis characteristics of biomass in accordance with the geometry of the spouted bed reactor. In this study, fast pyrolysis experiments using Jatropha curcas L. seed shell cake were conducted in a conical spouted bed reactor to study the effects of reaction temperature and reactor cone angle on the product yield and pyrolysis oil quality. The highest energy yield of pyrolysis oil obtained was 63.9% with a reaction temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ and reactor cone angle of $44^{\circ}$. The results showed that the reaction temperature and reactor cone angle affected the quality of the pyrolysis oil.

  • 액체 로켓용 충돌분사형 인젝터는 구조가 매우 간단하면서 고유량의 연료를 분사시킬 수 있기 때문에 여러 엔진에 응용된 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 인젝터의 특성을 산업용 보일러에 적용하기 위한 기초 실험 및 수치 계산을 수행하였다. 충돌분사 노즐로부터 형성되는 분무의 분포 특성을 실험적으로 측정하였고 이를 실제 조건에 모사하기 위해 수치 계산을 하여, 두 결과를 비교하여보았다. 이로부터 보일러의 효율과 공해물질 저감에 영향을 가져오는 액적의 미립화 특성을 향상시킬수 있는 연료 분사 조건을 제시하였다.

  • There is a many way of LPRE throttling methods, high-pressure-drop systems, dual-manifold injector, gas injection, multiple chambers, pulse modulation and movable injector components. Especially dual-manifold injector is essentially combines two fixed-area injectors into a common structure, with independent feed systems controlling flow to each injector manifold. In this paper, using indirect photography and liquid film thickness measurement with various injection pressure and tangential entry diameter to decide stability of spray over a wide thrust range in dual manifold injector.

  • Experimental study on combustion characteristics of double swirl coaxial injectors has been conducted for the assessment of critical injector design parameters. A reusable, subscale thrust chamber has been fabricated with a water-cooled copper nozzle. Two different configurations of injectors have been tested for the understanding of the effects of recess length on high pressure combustion. Clearly, the recess length drastically affects the combustion efficiency and hydraulic characteristics of an injector. Internal mixing of propellants in an injector with recess number of two increases a combustion efficiency and reveals sound combustion although a pressure drop required for the same amount of mass flow rates increases compared with an injector of recess number of one.

  • An experimental study was conducted to investigate fuel injection characteristics through swirl injectors when the fuel was heated to very high temperature conditions. Three swirl injectors with different orifice diameters and swirler geometries were used to measure the flow coefficient (${\alpha}$) for the injection pressure ranges between 3 and 10 bar and the fuel temperature from 50 to $270^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the variation characteristics of ${\alpha}$ with respect to cavitation number ($K_c$) were highly dependent on both the orifice diameter and the swirler geometry. In addition, the characteristics of ${\alpha}$ variation with respect to AR, the area ratio of the flow through the swirler and the orifice, has revealed that the effect of boiling is retarded but the slope of decreasing ${\alpha}$ after the boiling effect is present tumbles as AR increases.
