Geochemistry of the Daebo Granitic Batholith in the Central Ogcheon Belt, Korea : A Preliminary Report (중부 옥천대에 분포하는 대보 화강암질 저반의 화학조성 : 예비보고서)

  • The tectonic environment and source characteristics of the Daebo granitic batholith in the central Ogcheon Belt were investigated based upon major and trace element geochemistry. The batholith is comprised of three granite types; a biotite granite (DBBG), K-feldspar megacryst-bearing biotite granite (DBKG), and a more mafic granodiorite (DBGD). The variations of Na and K in the granites can not be explained by simple fractional crystallization from the same primary magma. The irregular behavior of these alkali elements indicates a variety of source materials or incomplete mixing of different source materials. The large ion lithophile (LIL) element enrichment and low Ta/Hf ratios of the granites are typical characteristics of normal, calc-alkaline continental arc granitoids. Based upon REE patterns of the granites, it seems to be unreasonable to regard the felsic DBBG as a late stage differentiate formed by residual melts after the fractionation of major constituent minerals of the more mafic DBGD. Inconsistent variations in ${\varepsilon}_{Nd}(t)$ and LIL element concentrations of the granites preclude a mixing model between primitive melt and LIL element-enriched upper crustal materials. The irregular geochemical variation of the granites is taken to be largely inherited from an already heterogeneous source region.

Physiological Characteristics and Immunomodulation Activity of Lactobacillus fermentum 450 isolated from Raw Milk (원유에서 분리한 Lactobacillus fermentum 450의 생리적 특성과 면역활성)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the physiological characteristics and immunomodulatory activity of Lactobacillus fermentum 450 isolated from raw milk. L. fermentum 450 showed optimum growth at $40^{\circ}C$ and exhibited immunomodulatory effects on $interleukin-1{\alpha}$, tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$, and nitrous oxide at concentrations of >2,500 pg/mL, >2,000 pg/mL, and $11.55{\pm}2.95{\mu}M$, respectively. Of the 16 antibiotics tested, L. fermentum 450 exhibited the highest sensitivity to rifampicin, followed by penicillin-G, and the highest resistance to kanamycin, followed by neomycin and polymyxin B. The strain showed high acid phosphatase activity and was comparatively tolerant to bile juice and acid. Moreover, the strain displayed high resistance to Salmonella Typhimurium (63.86%). These results demonstrate that L. fermentum 450 has potential for use as a probiotic with immunomodulatory activity.

  • This study was performed to investigate the manufacturing process of the Yeomcho(potassium nitrate), a necessary raw material for making gunpowder using soils and ashes by our ancestor. 10 types of soils including underfloor soil and 6 kinds of ashes including mugwort ash were collected, referencing the historical record. The ionic components extracted from the soils and ashes were analyzed by ICP(inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer) and IC(ion chromatograph). Nitrate ions and potassium ions were dominantly contained in soils and ashes, respectively. In particular, nitrate ions were found in the highest lebels in underfloor soil which often has much exposure to human living environments and accumulated fine organic matter. Potassium ions contained in ash was affected significantly by the type of plant and the growth environments and the measured levels were the highest in mugwort ashes. Yeomcho of 68% purity was obtained from the soil and ash mixture of 1:1 and thid purity was improved by about 14% by fractional crystallization method.

  • This investigation was primarily carried out to establish the optimum conditions for the separation of sorbic acid, as an enzyme inhibitor, from dry mountain ash berries. The berries were crushed to $35{\sim}40\;mesh$, and leached with water to produce a reddish juice, which was concentrated to syrup after evaporation. Parasorbic acid was separated from the syrup by steam distillation in the presence of acid. In this study, the optimum experimental results for separation of parasorbic acid were obtained as follows : (1) the most applicable leaching time of the dry ash berries was about 6 hours at room temperature and less than 4 hours at $40^{\circ}C$ and (2) in steam distillation, after removal of malic acid, addition of 30 ml of sulfuric acid per 50 ml of syrup extracted from 100 g of the ash berries was very adequate. The purity of sorbic acid obtained experimentally through the isomerization technique was qualitatively examined by spectrophotometeric, paper chromatographic, and melting point measurements.

저점착 코팅의 접합특성 평가방법 개발

  • 신도시 및 대규모 도시 개발이 진행됨에 따라 안정적이고 효율적인 전력 공급을 위해 다수의 지상 배전함이 설치되고 있으며, 이에 따라 불법 광고물 및 스티커의 부착으로 인한 문제가 발생하고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 여러 기관 및 산업체에서는 부착 방지용 코팅 도료 및 시트에 대하여 다양한 연구개발을 진행하고 있으며, 현장에 적용 된 다수의 제품이 존재한다. 하지만 현재 대부분의 제품들은 약 1년 정도의 시간이 지나면 부착 방지 기능을 상실하며, 도료와 기판 또는 시트와 기판 사이의 박리가 일어나 도시의 미관을 더욱 해치는 결과를 초래하고 있다. 이러한 원인으로는 부착력(Peel resistance, N/cm)을 측정하는 기존의 제시된 방법(KS T 1028, Peel test)으로는 정확한 측정이 어렵기 때문에 제품 선별에 어려움이 있다. 일반 기판의 경우 규격에서 요구하는 각도($90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$)가 잘 유지되어 정밀한 부착력 측정이 가능하지만, 저점착 기능성 코팅소재(Anti-adhesion coating)의 경우 부착 자체가 어렵기 때문에 요구 각도를 유지하기 어려워 정밀한 측정을 할 수 없다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하고자 압입자(Probe)를 이용한 새로운 평가 장치와 방법(Tack test)을 개발 및 제시하였다. 평가 지표로는 최대 점착력(Adhesive force, N), 최대 점착력일 때 점착제가 늘어난 총 길이(Extension of adhesive, mm), 탈착 에너지(Energy, J)가 있으며, 인가하는 힘(N)이 커질수록, 탈착 속도(Velocity)가 빨라질수록 평가 지표 모두 값이 상승하는 경향성을 보인다. 각 시험방법(Peel test, Tack test)에 대한 테이프류 점착제와 기판과의 결합이 끊어지는(Debonding, 탈착) 메커니즘(Mechanism)은 점착제 기공(Cavity)의 형성, 결합이 끊어지는 힘(Debonding force, N), 힘의 평형(Force balance)로 설명 가능하며, 상호간의 관계성을 도출한다. 이와 같은 평가 지표를 활용하여 저점착 기능성 코팅소재에 대해 정밀한 평가를 하는 것으로, 향후 개발될 다양한 제품에 대한 성능 분별력을 높이고, 현장에 적용 될 제품들의 성능을 끌어 올려 기존에 발생한 다양한 문제점들을 해결 할 수 있다.

  • Samples of Badwater greenstones from the Crystal Falls terrane in northeastern Wisconsin have been analyzed for major, trace and rare earth elements. Geochemical characteristics of the rocks provide clues to the petrologic character and paleotectonic environment of basaltic magma generation. They have chemical composition typical of continental tholeiites. The low Mg values and abundances of Ni and Cr indicate that the lavas were extensively fractionated prior to extrusion. The variations of incompatible elements suggest that the rocks were affected by interaction with crustal rocks. The samples least affected by contamination have trace element compositions similar to those of T-type mid-ocean ridge basalts. The parent was modified by crustal contamination process and this process shifted the rock compositions to that of continental tholeiites as the rock evolved. Interpretations of the chemical characteristics of the rocks, based on modem analogs, favor their emplacement in an extensional tectonic regime.

  • The object of this series of experiments was aimed for the systematic and long-term radioactivity monitoring through indirect search of C-14 concentration level changes in the natural conditions around the operating nuclear facilities. The result of environmental radioactivity level through tree-ring analysis is increased after operating nuclear facilities and such a level can be proved to relate power generation closely. The measured result of ${\delta}^{13}C$ through the treatment of cellulose can be showed the level -30‰. This figure is very different from one which is measured the -17‰ of air sample by passive air sampling and -8‰ of air sample by active air sampling. And these differences can be assumed as isotope fractionation by photosynthesis, but the problem is more study as needed.

  • For low contrast images, a histogram equalization is possible to easily identify information when the intensity is concentrated in an image. Over contrast enhancement is the problem of generating an unnatural image cognitively because the focus of existing techniques was the contrast enhancement. In order to solve this problem, CLAHE method solves unnatural problems by limiting contrast using a maximum threshold. However, this method has an extra problem that concealed detail information in an image. This paper proposes a detail-map based on the multiple layers block overlapped histogram equalization in order to avoid loss of detail information. Loss of detail information has been made to minimize as combining images with limited contrast enhancement using a detail-map in each layers.

  • For-${\alpha}$-APM was efficiently prepared by the reaction of For-Asp anhydride and Phe-OMe in methylethylketone, $CH_3CN$, and in water. The selective recovery of For-${\alpha}$-APM from the resulting For-${\alpha}$-APM and For-${\beta}$-APM mixture was possible via repetitive extraction at constant pH of 4.00. The oxidative deformylation was successfully performed by using several oxidants including $H_2_O2$/THF, sodium percarbonate, and $H_2_O2$/HCl/MeOH giving APM in high yields. The efficiency of the oxidative deformylation was raised in acidic condition for all the deformylation reactions.

  • This paper presents the development of a case-based system for an electrical fire cause diagnosis system using the entity relation database. The relation database which provides a very simple but powerful way of representing data is widely used. The system focused on database construction and cause diagnosis can diagnose the causes of electrical fires easily and efficiently. In order to store and access to the information concerned with electrical fires, the key index items which identify electrical fires uniquely are derived out. The case-based system consists of a case which contains information from the past fires. The case-based system could present the cause of a newly occurred fire to be diagnosed by searching the case-based database for reasonable matching. The case-based system has not only searching functions with multiple attributes by using the collected various information(such as fire evidence, structure, and weather of a fire scene) but also more improved diagnosis functions which can be easily used for the electrical fire cause diagnosis system.
