Phenolic resin used as a precursor of carbonized matrix for carbon-carbon composites was modified by addition of molybdenum disilicide (MoSi$_2$) in various concentrations of 0, 4, 12 and 20% by weight to improve the anti-oxidation properties of the composites. The green body was manufactured by a prepreg method and was submitted to carbonization up to 110$0^{\circ}C$. In this work, the oxidation behavior of carbon-carbon composites with MoSi$_2$ as an oxidation inhibitor was investigated at the temperature range of 600-100$0^{\circ}C$ in an air environment. The carbon-carbon composites with MoSi$_2$ showed a significantly improved oxidation resistance due to both the reduction of the porosity formation and the formation of mobile diffusion barrier for oxygen when compared to those without MoSi$_2$. Carbon active sites should be blocked, decreasing the oxidation rate of carbon. This is probably due to the effect of the inherent MoSi$_2$ properties, resulted from a formation of the protective layer against oxygen attack in the composites studied.
In order to recyle the FRP waste from SMC bathtubs and rock-crush sludge obtained as a byproduct of stones, the composite consisting of the FRP and rock-crush sludge and the unsaturated polyester matrix resin were prepared. To enhance the interfacial bonding force between the reinforcements and the matrix resin, the rock-crush sludge was treated with silane coupling agent, ${\gamma}$-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (${\gamma}$-MPS) and their mechanical properties and interface phenomena were examined. The flexural modulus of the composite containing 10 wt% rock-crush powder treated with 3 wt% silane coupling agent showed the maximum value. And also the initial thermal degradation temperature of composites were in the range of 352~359$^{\circ}C$. From these results, we observed that the weight loss of composites was almost constant regardless of the concentration of silane coupling agent. It is confirmed that the interface of the composites containing filler treated with ${\gamma}$-MPS was improved in that there were no pull-out phenomena between the reinforcement and matrix resin.
We prepared heterogeneous ion exchange membranes (hetero-IEMs) for the application of membrane capacitive deionization (MCDI). Hetero-IEMs were fabricated by compressing the mixture of ion exchange resin powders and liner low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Characterization and MCDI desalination experiments were carried for the fabricated membranes. Electrical resistance of membrane decreased and water content increased with increasing the resin content in the hetero-IEMs. However, transport number indicating permselectivity of membrane was similar with that of commercial homogenesous ion exchange membrane. The results of MCDI desalination experiments showed that the adsorption amount for hetero-IEM was about 90% of that of homogeneous membrane due to the high electrical resistance of hetero-IEM. Although desalination performance of hetero-IEM decreased compared with homogeneous membrane, it was thought to be applicable to MCDI because of simple preparation and low price.

Micro-stereolithography is a newly proposed technology as a means that can fabricate a 3D micro structure of free form. It makes a 3D micro-structure by dividing the shape into many slices of relevant thickness along horizontal surfaces, hardening each layer of slice with a focused laser beam, and stacking them up to a desired shape. However, we do not anticipate the electric conductivity of the final product at the existing micro-stereolithography. The reason is that this technology uses polymer to make the product. Thus the new suspension which was mixed conventional photopolymer with metal powder was developed in this study. The developed suspensions were based on SL5180 which is commercialized resin and IMS03 that is made in our laboratory. And Triton X-100 was added at the suspension for getting the scattering effect and stabilizing effect. The layer recoating device was developed to be flat the mixed high viscosity suspension. A 3D micro structure was manufactured by using recoating system and micro-stereolithography system. The fabricated product was sintered to get the electric conductivity. After sintering, a pure copper product was made. In this study, new process was developed by making metal micro structure having an electric conductivity. This technology broadened the realm of the micro-stereolithography technology. And it will be applied to make the 3D micro structure of free form which has a high hardness and an electric conductivity in the near future.
In order to reuse the waste matters, the polyester hybrid composites were fabricated with the waste stone (WSP) and waste tire (WTC). Before mixing, the waste fillers were treated with the silane coupling agent [${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane(${\gamma}$-MPS)] for enhancing the dispersion of the fillers and interfacial bonding with polymer matrix. Mechanical properties and morphologies of the resulted hybrid composites were investigated with the filler content. The hybrid composites containing surface treated fillers have high initial thermal decomposition temperature and low weight loss compared to the untreated one. The highest mechanical properties of composites were obtained with the ${\gamma}$-MPS (2 wt%) treated fillers. The porosity of composite increased with the content of organic filler which can be reduced by the silane surface treatment of fillers. The pore size distribution of the composites varied with the waste filler content.
This study was investigated to fabricate the isotropic $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$/epoxy bonded magnets with high characteristics paroduced by compression molding. The magnetic characteristics of the bonded magnets were directly proportional to the density of the magnets and were enhanced by using raw $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ magnetic powders, having the mean particle size of $200{\mu} m$.without additional milling process. The high characteristics of the bonded magnets were achieved at the following conditions: epoxy resin of 2.0 wt%, silane coupling agent of 0.8 wt%, curing agent of 0.7 wt% on the base of magnetic powders, and curing condition of $150^{\circ}C$/3 hrs. The bonded magnets at the optimum conditions indicated the high characteristics such as the density of 6.1 g/㎤, the remanent flux density of 7.1 kG, the maximum energy product of 9.7 MGOe, and the compressive strength of 17 kg/$mm^2$.
In order to prepare digested Protein source for the Weanling Food from soybean, an attempt was made to decompose steamed soybean protein to amino acids and peptides by protease and cellulase produced from Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus sojae. In this paper, the optimum condition for digestion of soybean protein were studied and also investigated the effects of decolorization of it. As the results, followings were obtained; 1. As steaming conditions, a treatment under 15 lb of pressure and 10 minutes of heating shows most effective. 2. The optimum pH of Asp, sojae enzyme for the digestion of soybean protein is 6.0, while that of Asp. niger enzyme is 4.4. In successievly-decomposing with Asp. sojae and Asp. niger, it shows the most effective on ratio of water-soluble-nitrogen to total nitrogen and amino-nitrogen to total nitrogen than any other separate treatments. 3. The suitable amount of the enzyme solution to that of the soybean substrate paste, in volume, is 1 : 2. 4. Digestion ratio of soybean protein indicates the gradual and steady effects of increasing time of digestion, but 8 hour-digestion regarding to putrefaction was suitable. 5. The most effective decolorization was successively passed on culumns of active carbon and anion exchanger (Dowex 2-x-8) at room temperature. In separate treatments, the effective order of decolorization was as follows; (Dowex 2-x-8)>Active carborn>Amberite IR-120 6. The powder type of the soy protein source obtained by concentration below $60^{\circ}C$ contains 12.51% of moisture, 66.31% of protein, 4.25% of fat, 12.75% of carbohydrate, 4.18% of ash.
Aerogel is the most excellent insulation material known to date, but it is inflexible and has very low strength. A blanket containing aerogel in a nonwoven fabric or fiber is currently the most practical form. However, aerogel blankets are not yet widely used because they cannot avoid dust generation when handled, lack flexibility, and can possibly deform. In this study, vacuum treatment, surface treatment, and composite materialization technology were applied to solve this problem, and some prototypes were also made. If an aerogel blanket is wrapped in an aluminum sheet, sealed at the four ends, and vacuumed, it can become a material with better insulation than the blanket itself. An aerogel molded body can be made by coating the aerogel blanket with resin and treating the surface. If the aerogel blanket is multi-packed and laminated with resin or fiber in multiple layers to make it a composite material, it can be used as a flexible insulation material. In particular, this composite material, which utilizes a Teflon membrane with controlled pores, is breathable and waterproof, so it can be used for clothing. Prototypes of insoles for winter boots and outdoor roll mats were also produced using aerogel blanket resin and fiber composites. These prototypes showed low thermal conductivity of less than 20 mW m-1K-1, with good flexibility and durability.
${\beta}$-SiC powders were synthesized by a carbothermal reduction process using $SiO_2$-C precursors fabricated by a sol-gel process using phenol resin and TEOS as starting materials for carbon and Si sources, respectively. The C/Si molar ratio was selected as an important parameter for synthesizing SiC powders using a sol-gel process, and the effects of the C/Si molar ratio (1.4-3.0) on the particle size, particle size distribution, and yield of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders were investigated. It was found that (1) the particle size of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders decreased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio in the $SiO_2$-C hybrid precursors, (2) the particle size distribution widened with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio, and (3) the yield of the ${\beta}$-SiC powder production increased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio.
