학술자료 I: 최근 국내.외의 젖소의 번식생리에 관한 연구 소고

  • 최근 홀스타인 경산우는 체격이 대형화함과 동시에 유전적 개량에 의해 비유량이 증가하고 있으나, 비유량이 증가하는 한편, 번식성적의 저하가 전 세계적인 문제로 되고 있다. 미국의 경우, 젖소의 첫 인공수정 수태율은 1951년의 약 65%에서 1996년 약 40%까지 저하하였다는 보고도 있다(Butler 등). 또한 영국에서도 과거 25년간에 수태율이 약 50%에서 35%까지 저하하여 40%를 밑돌고 있으며(Cook 등), 일본의 경우도 마찬가지로 북해도 젖소의 첫 수정 수태율은 40%를 밑돌고 있다는 것으로 미루어 우리나라의 경우도 이와 유사한 성적이나 좋지 않을 것으로 사료된다. 더구나 수태율의 저하와 아울러 분만간격(평균공태일수)는 매년 연장되고, 현재 고능력 젖소에서 번식 성적의 향상은 해결과제로, 세계각국에서는 번식성적저하의 요인 및 대책에 대한 많은 연구가 이뤄지고 있다. 따라서 고능력 젖소에서 유량, 부(負, -)에너지 균형 및 BCS 등이 번식성적에 미치는 영향 등에 대해 국내 외의 수집 논문, 자료 등을 정리하여 대동물임상수의사들에게 도움을 주고자 소개하고 저 한다.

Effects of Weaning Age on Growth Performance, Feed Intake, Disease Occurrence of Hanwoo Calves and Reproductive Efficiency of Dams (한우 송아지 이유시기가 증체, 사료섭취량, 질병발생 및 어미소의 번식효율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of weaning age on growth perforance, feed intake, disease occurrence and maternal reproductive efficiency in Hanwoo. Sixty experimental calves were allocated into two groups, early weaned (n=29, calf age 90 d, EW) and normally weaned (n=31, calf age 120 d, NW). Body weights and average daily gains during nursing and post-weaning periods were similar between two groups (p>0.05). Weaning age had no effect on calf starter, grass hay, dry matter, crude protein and TDN intakes of calves (p>0.05). Maternal calving interval in EW was shortened by 23 days compared to NW (p>0.05). Any difference in occurrence of disease was not observed between groups. Present results indicate that early weaning age has no negative effects on growth performance, feed intake or on disease occurrence in Hanwoo calves. And it has positive influence on maternal calving interval.

Survey on the Effect of the Herd Size on Reproductive Traits of Korean Native Cows (사육규모에 따른 한우 번식 실태 조사)

  • A survey was carried out to investigate the effect of the herd size on the reproductive traits of Hanwoo(Korean native cows). Data on the reproductive traits of 670 Korean native cows were collected from January, 1996 to December, 1997 and analyzed by the herd size. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The average ages at first breeding were 437.9, 425.5 and 452.9 days in herd size 1 (less than 20 heads), 2 (21∼50 heads) and 3 (more than 51 heads), respectively (the over all average was 443.0 days). However, there was no significant difference between herd sizes (p>0.05). 2. The average ages at first conception were 452.8, 438.4 and 467.1 days in herd size 1, 2 and 3, respectively (the over all average was 460.0 days). However, there was no significant difference between herd sizes (p>0.05). 3. The average ages at first calving were 741.2, 730.2 and 755.9 days in herd size 1, 2 and 3, respectively (the over all average was 746.6 days). However, there was no significant difference between herd sizes (p>0.05). 4. The average days to first estrus after calving was 70.1 days and it was shortest in herd size 3 (64.8 days) and longest in herd size 1(82.1 days). 5. The average numbers of services per conception were 1.54, 1.61 and 1.48 in herd size 1, 2, and 3, respectively (the over all average was 1.53). However, there was no significant difference between herd sizes (p>0.05). 6. The average days to first conception after calving were 115.6, 99.1 and 80.6 days in herd size 1, 2 and 3, respectively (the over all average was 91.2 days). There was a trend that it was shorter as the herd size increased(p<0.05). 7. The average length of calving interval was 375.3 days and it was shortest in herd size 3 (367. 4 days) and longest in herd size 1 (389.5 days).

  • To improve the pig farm management and efficiency of swine industry by inducing the farrowing to day-time from night, In the first experiment, reproduction records of purebred and crossbred pigs were collected and analyzed to estimate the $\varepsilon$ ffec 잉 of factors affecting day and night farrowing. The general linear model was used to estimate the least square means of the factors affecting various reproductive characteristics. And also, chi-square tests were used to examine the independence of the reproductive traits and environmental factors using the SAS (1992). The comparisons between pure and crossbred pigs for total number born, percentage of number born alive, gestation length, time length for farrowing were determined. The results indicated that the gestation length of crossbred (115.11 d) was slightly longer than that of purebred (114.89 d, p<0.05). For the seasonal effects on total number born, the largest was found in spring and no differences were found among summer, fall and winter. The average gestation length was 1 day longer in spring and winter than in summer and fall. The total number born and number born alive were smaller in first, second, and greater or equal to sixth parity than other parities. And also, the percentage of no. born alive was least in greater or equal to sixth parity. For the effect of mating methods, natural and artificial insemination, on total number born and number born alive, no differences between the two methods were found. However, the percentage of number born alive for natural mating was 98.06% and was higher than artificial insemination(93.75%). The time length for farrowing was I hour were found for the 6 hrs of farrowing time. In general situation of pig farms, day-time farrowing was 34.8% and night farrowing was 65.2%, indicating that night farrowing was almost double of the night farrowing.

소의 주요 대사성질병과 예방관리

  • 우리나라의 젖소 사육농가도 예전과는 달리 효율적인 사양관리를 기하기 위해 부단히 노력한 결과, 조사료와 농후사료의 배합비율이나 사료의 질과 양을 어느 정도로 급여하는 지를 사육농가가 관심을 가지는 농가가 늘고 있는 추세이다. 특히 젖소사양관리에서는 고품질우유, 고능력우가 증가하면서 우유의 생산성, 고능력우의 선발육종, 송아지의 조기육성시스템, 분만간격단축 등에 현저한 향상을 보이고 있다. 젖소는 건유기의 조사료위주의 사양으로부터 비유최고조기에 농후사료위주 사양에 이르면서 사료의 급격한 변화에 따라 짧은 기간내에 적응하지 않으면 안된다. 이러한 이유로 인해서 영양불량응로 인한 대사성질병들의 발생이 증가하고 있는 실정에 비추어 소의 생리적조건에 맞는 필요한 영양분을 충분하게 공급하여 주지 않으면 안된다.

Changes of Blood and Milk Components and Correlation among Them after Parturition in Dairy Cows (젖소에 있어서 분만 후 혈액 및 우유의 성분 변화와 성분간의 상관관계)

  • Components of cholesterol, glucose, minerals (selenium, Ca, p) and vitamin E in blood and milk were collected and analyzed weekly after calving from a total of 78 Holstein cows. In this study, we examined changes of chemical components, correlations among them, and factors affecting the changes. The results were summarized as follows; 1 Average levels of components in blood during 9 weeks after calving were 178.8 mg/dl, 62.3 mg/dl, 8.9 mg/dl, 7.4 mg/dl, 52.2 ng/ml, $10.3{\mu}g/ml$, 16.3 mg/dl, 15.3 ng/dl, and 15.8 mg/dl for cholesterol, glucose, Ca, P, selenium, vitamin E, BUN (blood urea nitrogen), MSe (milk selenium), and MUN (milk urea nitrogen), respectively. 2. The levels of cholesterol, glucose selenium, vitamin E and MSe tended to increase over time after calving. 3. The estimated correlations among components were negative(-) for cholesterol and p, positive for selenium, and BUN and also positive for BUN and MUN. Glucose showed positive correlations with P and MSe. 4. For factors influencing the changes of components, there were significant differences in glucose and selenium for age, in selenium and vitamin E for parity, in glucose and MSe for milk and in all components except Ca and selenium for feeding grass and hay, respectively. In urea nitrogen, age and parity only showed significant difference in MUN. In conclusion, the results were suggested that changes of blood and milk components depend on feeding during the postpartum. Especially, we could ascertain that selenium in blood and milk is the important factor for the dairy cows after parturition.

Classification of behavior at the signs of parturition of sows by image information analysis (영상정보에 의한 모돈의 분만징후 행동특성 분류)

  • The aim of this study is to predict the exact time of parturition from analysis and classification of preliminary behavior based on parturition signals in sows. This study was conducted with 12 crossbred sows (with an average of 3.5 parities). Behavioral characteristics were analyzed for duration and the frequency of different behaviors on a checklist, which includes the duration of the basic behaviors (feeding, standing, lying down, and sitting). The frequency of specific behaviors (investigatory behavior, shame-chewing, scratching, and bar-biting) was also recorded. Image information was collected every two minutes for 24 hours before the first piglets were born. As a result, the basic behavior of a sows' standing time (22.6% of the time after 24 h, 24.9% after 12 h) and time lying down (55.9% after 24 h, 66.3% after 12 h) increased over the 12 h period before parturition, compared with the 24 h period before parturition (p<0.01). Feeding (13.42% after 24 h, 4.38% after 12 h) and sitting (8.2% after 24 h, 4.5% after 12 h) tended to decrease during the 12 h before parturition (p>0.05). The sows' investigatory behavior ($11.44{\pm}1.80$ after 24 h, $55.97{\pm}6.13$ after 12 h), scratching ($3.75{\pm}1.92$ after 24 h, $20.99{\pm}5.81$ after 12 h), and bar-biting ($0.69{\pm}0.15$ after 24 h, $3.71{\pm}1.53$ after 12 h) increased in the 12-hour period before parturition, compared with the 24-hour period before parturition (p<0.01). On the other hand, shame-chewing ($2.20{\pm}1.67$ after 24 h, $0.07{\pm}0.01$ after 12 h) decreased compared to the 12-hour period before parturition (p>0.05). Thus, standing, investigatory behavior, scratching, and bar-biting could be used as behaviors indicative of parturition in sows.

발정 제어 방법과 계절번식이 한우의 수태에 미치는 영향

  • 한우 농가의 다두화 사육규모에 적합한 번식관리모델 제시 및 수태율 증진을 위한 발정제어 방법을 개발하고자 수행하였다. 1. 년중 번식구의 분만간격은 412.9일, 수태당종부횟수 1.76회에 반하여 계절번식 I구와 II구는 각각 370.4일과 1.51회, 376.5일과 1.48회로 나타났다. 2. 송아지 생산율에 있어서 년중번식구 78.2%(174/184), 계절번식 I구 71.7%(99/138)에 비해 계절번식 II구에서는 79.2%(172/217)로 효율이 다소 높았다. 3. 발정유기방법별 동기화율에 있어서 PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$ 2회 투여법에서 68.1%(141/207), PRID 삽입법 71.42%(15/21), CIDR 삽입법 86.3%(33/38)에 비해 GnRH-PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$-GnRH 처리법은 93.1%(216/232)로 효율이 가장 높았다. 4. 발정유기방법별 1회 수정수태율은 PGF$_2$$_{\alpha}$ 2회 투여법 55.1%(64/l16), PRID 삽입법 54.0%(20/37), CIDR 삽입법 58.6%(17/29), 일괄수태법 58.8%(60/102)로 나타났고, 수태율은 각각 75%(87/116), 81%(30/37), 89.6%(26/29), 91.1%(93/102)였다. 5. 일괄수태 처리후 수정시점에 따른 수태율은 최종 GnRH 투여후 16~20 시간구가 65.3%로 가장 좋았다.

Survey on Reproductive Traits of Average and High Yielding Holstein Cattle (젖소의 산유 능력에 따른 번식 성적 조사 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the reproductive performance of average (less than 10,000 liters milk in 305 days) and high yielding (more than 10,000 liters milk in 305 days) Holstein cattle at commercial dairy herds (n=22). Data on milk progesterone (10 to 60 days postpartum), days to post-partum estrous, days to post-partum conception, service per conception and calving interval were recorded for two consecutive years. Post-partum milk progesterone concentration and days to reach peak milk progesterone concentration were similar in high and average yielding cows. High yielding cows took more days to show signs of first postpartum estrous than average yielding cows. Post-partum conception was 20 days earlier in average yielding cows than high yielding cows. Artificial insemination per conception was similar between average and high yielding cows. Calving interval was 26.9 days longer in high yielding cows compared to average yielding cows. In conclusion, better reproductive and feeding management may help improve the reproductive performance of high yielding dairy cattle in commercial dairy farms.

The Impact of Delayed Interval Delivery on Neonatal Mortality and Morbidity (지연 분만이 신생아의 사망률과 이환율에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the impact of delayed interval delivery on neonatal outcomes. Methods: This was a retrospective study of infants who were born at Seoul National University Hospital by delayed interval delivery from June 2005 to July 2010. Outcomes (neonatal mortality and morbidity) of later babies were compared to those of the first babies and the control group whose gestational ages and birth weights were similar to them. Results: There were 4 twin and 5 triplet pregnancies. The first babies (group 1, n=9) were delivered at $22^{+6}$ to $27^{+5}$ weeks of gestational age, and the later babies (group 2, n=14) were born at $24^{+6}$ to $28^{+0}$ weeks. The mean interval between the first and later deliveries was 10 days, and there was no delay between the second and third deliveries in all triplet pregnancies. There were more small for gestational age (SGA) infants in group 1 than group 2 (66.7% and 21.4% respectively, P=0.03). Two of three babies who died in group 1 were born before 24 weeks of gestational age and expired within a week after birth. The mortality rate of group 2 (7.1%) was lower than group 1 (33.3%), but not significantly (P=0.106). The control group matched to group 2 consisted of 28 infants. There were no significant differences in neonatal mortality and morbidity between the two groups. Conclusion: Although there is a limitation to the number of infants in this study, it suggested that delayed delivery in a multiple pregnancy could decrease the incidence of SGA of the remaining fetuses and that prolonged gestation would not be harmful to those fetuses after birth.
