LDPC Coding for image data and FPGA Implementation of LDPC Decoder (영상 정보의 LDPC 부호화 및 복호기의 FPGA구현)

  • In order to transmit information in a channel environment in which noise exists, a coding technique of information is required. One of the coding techniques used for error detection and correction close to the Shannon limit is Low Density Parity Code(LDPC). LDPC and decoding characteristic features by Sum-product algorithm are matched for the performance to Turbo Code, RA(Repeat Accumulate) code, in case of very long code length of LDPC surpass their performance. This paper explains LDPC coding scheme of image data and decoding scheme, implements LDPC decoder in FPGA.

  • This paper proposes the signal design techniques of quasi-orthogonal space time block codes (QO-STBCS) on the multi-dimensional signal space. In the multiple antenna system(MIMO), QO-STBC achieves the full-diversity and full-rate by grouping two based-symbols. We study the condition for the full-diversity of the grouping QO-STBC geometrically and the performance analysis of codes on the multi-dimensional signal space regarding the various signal constellations. Simulation results show that the way of the performance analysis is validity.

The Performance Analysis of the Concatenated Coding System using Punctured Convolutional Code in the Satellite Channel (위성 채널에서 펑쳐드 콘볼루션 부호를 이용한 직렬연결 부호 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, an efficient concatenated coding scheme under the satellite channel is presented. The performance of this scheme in terms of bit error rate versus energy per information bit over white gaussian noise power density E/N has been evaluated via computer simulation as a function of various system parameters. To achieve accuracy in simulation results, the distortions caused from the satellite channel, such as the nonlinearity of the TWTA(traveling wave tube amplifier), signal distortions of the input and output filters, has been considered. The simulation results show that, through using the 2/3 punctured convolutional code as the inner code of the concatenated code system, the coding rate can be improved more over 16%, while maintaining the same system complexity and bit error performance.

  • In this paper, we propose an error control coding scheme for constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation. The product code is appropriate to the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation for the bit error rate performance improvement. In the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation, the vertical redundant bits are used for the constant amplitude coding. The proposed product code can be constructed by using the additional horizontal redundant bits. The hardware complexity of the encoder/decoder pair is very low. The simulation results show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed coding scheme is improve

  • Underwater acoustic communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of underwater channel causes signal distortion and error floor. In order to improve the performance, it is necessary to employ an iterative coding scheme. Among the iterative coding scheme, turbo codes and LDPC codes are dominant channel coding schemes in recent. This paper concluded that turbo coding scheme is optimal for underwater communications system in aspect to performance, coded word length, and equalizer combining. Also, decision directed phase recovery was used for correcting phase offset induced by multipath. Based on these algorithms, we confirmed the performance in the environment of oceanic experimentation.

  • In this paper, we describe design and implementation of audio encoder/decoder for voice synthesis. It uses the encoding of difference value of successive samples instead of the original sample value. and has the compression ratio of 4. The function is verified by using FPGA and the performance is measured by the fabricated chip using $0.35{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. The system clock is 16.384MHz. The measured THD+n is from -40dB to -80dB with frequency variation and the power consumption is about 80mW. It is suited for the mobile application of high audio quality and low power consumption.

  • In this paper, a preventive transmission rate decision algorithm, called PTRD, is proposed for the transmission of live video over networks with dynamic bandwidth allocation capability. Frame analyzer predicts the bit-rates of future frames before encoding by analyzing the source information such as spatial variances and the degree of scene changes. By using the predicted bit-rates, transmission rate bounds are derived from the constraints of encoder and decoder buffers. To resolve the problem of renegotiation cost increment due to frequent renegotiations, the PTRD algorithm is presented to decide transmission rates considering the elapsed time after the recent renegotiation and the perceived video quality. From the simulation results, compared to the normalized LMS based method, PTRD is shown to achieve high channel utilization with low renegotiation cost and no delay violation.

  • As the processing speed of communication and computer system has been improved, high speed data processing is required to correct error of data. In this paper, decoding algorithm which is applicable to the wireless communication system is proposed and encoder and decoder are designed by using the proposed decoding algorithm. We design the encoder and decoder by using the VHDL(VHSIC Hardware Description Language) and simulate the designed encoder and decoder by using V-system. Designed algorithm is synthesized by using synopsys tools and is made to one chip by means of XILINX XC4010EPC84-4. When 20MHz was used as the input clock, data arrival time was 29.20ns and data require time was 48.70ns.

Synchronization Scheme Using Phase Offsets of PN Sequences (PN 부호의 위상오프셋을 이용한 동기 방법)

  • It is important to know phase offsets of PN (Pseudo Noise) sequences in spread spectrum communications since the acquisition is equivalent to make a phase offset between a receiving PN sequence and a PN sequence of local PN generator be identical. In this paper, a phase offset enumeration method for PN sequences with error detection, and its application to the synchronization are proposed. The phase offset enumeration far an n-tuple PN sequence and its error detection are performed when one period of the sequence is received. Once the phase offset of the receiving sequence is calculated, we can easily accomplish the synchronization by initializing shift registers of a local PN generator according to the phase offset value. The mean acquisition time of the proposed synchronization method is derived analytically, and we see that the method acquires very fast acquisition in the high SNR (Signal-to- Noise Ratio) environment.

Analysis of Optimum Iterative Codes for Underwater Acoustic Communication based on Turbo Equalizer (수중 음향통신에 적합한 터보 등화기 기반의 최적의 반복 부호 기법 연구)

In order to improve the performance, it is necessary to employ an iterative coding scheme. Among the iterative coding scheme, turbo codes, LDPC codes and convolutional code based on BCJR algorithm are dominant channel coding schemes in recent. Therefore this paper analyzed the performance of iterative codes based on turbo equalizer with the same coding rate and similar codeword length. The performances of three kinds of iterative codes were evaluated in the environment of underwater acoustic communication channel that are real data collected in Korean east sea. The distance of transmitter and receiver was 5Km and data rate was 1Kbps. As a result, convolutional code based on BCJR algorithm has better performance in underwater channel than turbo codes and LDPC codes.
