  • This study carried out the safety evaluation of non-refillable butane can for portable gas range equipped with relief valve for prevention of explosion. The can is heated by electric heater at the real using condition and the extreme condition after installing at a portable gas range for checking the operating pressure and the evaluating suitability of releasing flux. And the possibility of fire or explosion was tested when the gas was released from the relief valve at the real condition. As a result of this safety evaluation test, a non-refillable butane can with relief valve prevents the can from exploding by control of internal pressure.

  • With the introduction of 40 hour working week system, more households enjoy picnics on weekends. More gas accidents take place on Saturdays and on Sundays than any other days of week. As of October, 2004 casualties resulted from butane can accidents increased 1.5 times compared to the same period of the previous year. In this study, the influence of explosion over-pressure caused by the rupture of butane can thrown away after use was calculated by using the Hopkinson's Scaling Law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structures and people into the Probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the Probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion over-pressure to structures 50 meters away and that of over-pressure to people 10 meters away showed nothing. The explosion efficiency used was 100 percent. As a result of this, the actual damage influenced by the rupture of butane can would be lower than the value calculated in this study and expected to be safer.

  • People in the advanced society have deep interest in such environmental problems as noise, air quality, water pollution, etc. This paper submits the result of the research on the noise In the surroundings of the butane can explosion location. First, the noise level measured in a residential area, 245 meters' away from the butane can explosion location, was 59.3 dB. Also, the noise level measured in the IGUP (International Graduate University of Peace), 300 meters' away from the explosion site, was 52.5 dB. Second, the above noise levels are lower than the level specified In the Environmental Standard (65 dB), which represented that the experiment was safe. Third, the noise level in a place away from the butane can explosion location varied in accordance with the direction of the wind. Consequently, the noise in all locations (the places where damage to people is expected) surrounding the experimental butane can explosion location was measured to identify the effect of the wind irection.

  • In the last five years, 91 accidents from portable gas ranges and non-refillable metallic gas cartridges have occurred. The gas cylinder installed with a relief valve was developed to prevent an explosive accident from the gas cartridge. In this study it was carried out to evaluate the safety of a gas cylinder mounted with a relief valve which can prevent an explosion. Under the real using condition and the extreme condition the gas cylinder is heated with an electric heater. Simultaneously, the operating pressure is checked and the suitability of releasing flux is evaluated. And the possibility of fire or explosion was tested when the gas was released from the relief valve at the real using condition. Using a numerical simulation method, the diffusion of butane gas released from a relief valve was visualized.

  • There have been 3E problems of energy, economy and environment since the earth has its history. Especially, as the industrial society is highly developing, human need in daily life has also changed drastically. With the introduction of 40 hour working week system, more households enjoy picnics on weekends. More gas accidents take place on Saturdays and on Sundays than any other days of week. Consequently, this study tries to find out the influence of flame caused by the explosion of butane canister on the adjacent combustibles and people by simulating relevant quantity of TNT. In addition, the damage estimation was conducted by using API regulations. If the scale of the radiation heat is known by calculating the distance of flame influence from the explosion site, the damage from the site can be easily estimated. And the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structures and people into the PROBIT model. According to the pro bit analyze, the spot which is 50cm away from the flame has 97% of the damage probability by the first-degree burn, 8% of the damage probability by the second-degree burn and 4% of the death probability by the fire.

  • The number of camping population and sites are rapidly increasing with to the expansion of camping culture and the advancement of leisure culture. It is necessary to develop an effective strategy of safety management, as a lot of accidents occur due to the increase of population and sites for camping. Particular attention needs to be paid for accident prevention in the increasing accidents of explosion awing to the overheating of bytane gas, and carbon monoxide poisoning due to the use of non-ventilated areas. In this study, the direction of safety management strategy is analyzed by a survey and analysis of risk factors in campsite about gas facilities and gas appliances in camp site. Accordingly, some directions are suggested. Conclusively, it is expected that the results of this study could help to improve efficiency management for camping.

  • As the industrial society is highly developing, human need in daily life has also changed drastically. With the introduction of 40 hour working week system, more households enjoy picnics on weekends. More gas accidents take place on Saturdays and on Sundays than any other days of week. In this context, the Institute of Gas Technology Training in Korea Gas Safety Corporation carries out explosion experiment to make trainees to take all possible measure to ensure safe management of gas in the field by fully recognizing the hazards of gas explosion accidents. In this study, the influence of explosion over-pressure caused by the rupture of butane can thrown away after use was calculated by using the Hopkinson's Scaling Law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent people into the Probit model. The value of those away from 50 meters from the explosion site was 1.35kPa and the peak overpressure to thoes away from 25 meters directly was 3.2kPa. Those value was input to the PROBIT model, the estimation showed the sante result 0 percent of damage possibility.
