The purpose of this study is to investigate bond properties of GFRP used in SFRC (Steel fiber reinforced concrete) and normal concrete. The experimental variables were rebar diameter (D13, D16), steel fiber volume fraction (0~2%) and cover thickness ($1.5d_b$, $5.4d_b$). The experimental results showed a different failure mode depending on the cover thickness. Through the tested specimens, splitting failure occurred for the specimens with small cover thickness and pull out failure occurred in the specimens with large cover thickness. Introduction of steel fiber caused the specimens to have more ductile behavior of bond stresss-lip after peak stress, but they did not increase the bond strength significantly. These failure modes were shown in both steel reinforcement and GFRP. However, from the difference of micro structure of bond failure mechanism between steel rebar and GFRP rebar, more ductile behavior was observed in GFRP-specimens after maximum bond strength was reached.
The objective of this study is to find the relationship between the tensile strength of the polymer film and the bond strength and tensile strength of the polymer-modified mortar using styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA), and porosity. In the test results, the bond strength and tensile strength of the polymer-modified mortar increased with increases in the tensile strength of polymer film and the fine pore volume.
This paper analyzed seventy eight previous test results to evaluate bond strength of Near Surface-Mounted (NSM) FRP and prediction formulas previously proposed by researchers. The results showed that the most reliable bond strength prediction was the one proposed by Seracino, who considered the shape coefficient (ratio of width-thickness) and stiffness of FRP. However, the equation tended to underestimate the bond strength, especially serious when FRP bond length was relatively short, because the equation did not consider the effect of bond length. Based on the analysis of previous test results, the relation between bond length and bond strength and the group effect due to close proximity of FRPs were determined. Based on the findings, the Seracino's formula was modified and it's applicability was evaluated. The result showed that the suggested formula can be used effectively to predict the bond strength of NSM FRP.

Several researches on high volume fly ash concrete have been conducted to investigate its fundamental material properties such as slump, strength and durability and however, research on the structural behavior of bond strength is essential for the application of this high volume fly ash concrete to structural members because of the necessity of reinforcement. But the exact design code for application and researches on the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concrete lack yet. To achieve such a goal, this paper evaluates experimentally the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concretes by direct pull-out test and compares between the current test results and existing research results. By the test results, it is shown that the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concrete is similar to that of general concrete. And by the comparison between test and existing research, it is shown that bond stress of high volume fly ash concrete is underestimated, as the embedment length gets longer.

For reinforced concrete members, bond strength is one of the important factors between the two materials: the concrete and the reinforcing element. The bond strength of Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP) rebar was tested using the pull-out method. Presented were comparison results of the bond strength between AFRP rebar and deformed steel bars from the test. Embedded lengths and diameters of the rebar were taken into account as parameters. The bond stress-slip responses and failure modes of AFRP rebar were evaluated. It was found that the bond stress-slip responses of AFRP rebar were similar to those of deformed steel bars. As the diameter of rebar increased, the pull-out load increased. In addition, it was shown that the bond strength of an AFRP rebar was approximately 54% compared with that of a deformed steel bar.

For reinforced concrete members, the bond strength is one of the important factors between two materials: concrete and reinforcing element. This study concerns the bond strength of deformed bars in artificial lightweight aggregate concrete by pull-out test. 144 cubic specimens were manufactured for the test. concrete compressive strength, size of deformed bar and embedment lengths were considered as variables in this study. Normal concrete with W/C ratio 50% specimens were tested for the comparison. Test results included the bond stress-slip responses and modes of failure. Bond strength increased with an increase of compressive strength of concrete according to W/C ratio. The equation of bond stress of polymer-modified lightweight aggregate concrete were proposed by regression analysis based on the result.

This research studies the behavior of the FRP-concrete interface subjected to two environmental substances. Frist is to investigate the behavior by the application of different bonding materials at the interface between FRP and concrete, second is to understand a long-term performance at the interface by Freeze-thaw actions. The parameters considered in this research are the maximum bonding strength and the effective bonding length at the FRP-concrete interface. In the first experimental phase, three types of specimens are fabricated and tested considering the number of applied bonding materials and the Freeze-thaw tests are performed to evaluate the behavior of the interface in the cycle range of 0 to 300 cycles. Finally, it is known that there is a 5~7% difference of the effective bonding length between applied bonding materials and the values for the maximum stress and the effective length under Freeze-thaw action are varied randomly as the freeze-thaw cycle is increased even though initial reduction of their capacities are occurred.
A compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete according to current design codes. New criteria for the compression lap splice including the effects of concrete strength are required for practical purpose of ultra-high strength concrete. Characteristics of compression lap splice have been extensively investigated and main parameters are derived. In addition, an experimental study has been conducted with column specimens in concrete strength of 40 and 60 MPa. The strength of the compression lap splice consists of bond and end bearing and two contributors are combined. Therefore, combined action of bond and end bearing should be assessed. Compared with tension splices, concrete strength significantly affects the strength of compression splices due to short splice length and existence of end bearing. Test results show that the splice strength can be evaluated to be proportional to square root of compressive strength of concrete. The stress states of concrete surrounding spliced bars govern the strengths of bond and end bearing. Because the axial stress of the concrete is relatively high, the splice strength is not dependent on clear spacing. End bearing strength is not affected by splice length and clear spacing and is expressed with a function of the square root of concrete strength. The failure mode of specimens is similar to side-face blowout of pullout test of anchors and the strength of end bearing can be evaluated using the equation of side-face blowout strength. Because the stresses developed by bond in compression splices are nearly identical to those in tension splices, strength increment of compression splices is attributed to end bearing only.

Geopolymer concrete is a new class of construction materials that has emerged as an alternative to ordinary Portland cement concrete to reduce the emission of $CO_2$ in the production of concrete. Many researches have been carried out on material developments of geopolymer concrete, however a few studies have been reported on the structural use of them. This paper presents an experiment on the bond behaviors of reinforcements embedded in fly ash based geopolymer concrete. The development lengths of reinforcement for various compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete, 20, 30 and 40 MPa, and reinforcement diameters, 10, 16 and 25 mm, are investigated. Total 27 specimens were manufactured and pull-out test according to EN 10080 was applied to measure the bond strength and slips between concrete and reinforcements. As the compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete increase, the bond strength between geopolymer concrete and reinforcement increase. The bond strengths decrease as the diameters of reinforcements increase, which is similar in normal concrete. Also, an estimation equation for the basic development length of reinforcement embedded in geopolymer concrete is proposed based on the experimental results in this study.

This study proposes a experimental method to evaluate bonding strength of FRPs used for retrofitting concrete structures. Specimens are designed so that debonding failure of FRPs can be induced from reinforced concrete beams retrofitted with two layers of carbon and glass FRPs. And three-point loading tests are performed to see if debonding failure with proper debonding strength is observed from the specimens. The test results show that the tested beams are failed due to debonding of FRPs, therefore, the proposed test method is capable of evaluating debonding strength of FRPs using relatively small normal strength concrete beams.
