The properties of recycled fine aggregates which had different source concrete were examined by mortar test. With higher strength of source concrete, specific gravity of recycled fine aggregate was higher and absorption of recycled fine aggregate was lower due to reduction of the volume of adhered cement paste. The compressive strength and flexible strength of mortar with recycled fine aggregate were affected by the interface boundary of new mortar and the strength of adhered mortar. Strength development of mortar with recycled fine aggregate reduced because recycled fine aggregate become a porous material with the smaller strength of source concrete. The drying shrinkage of mortar was about$800{\sim}2000{\mu}m/m$. It was about 1.5 times than that of mortar with natural fine aggregate. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity was a similar level with that of mortar with natural fine aggregate.

This study aims to find out the reason that tile adhesive(type III) for ceramic tile does not harden under some conditions especially high humidity even though long curing time. Bonding strength of adhesive between substrate and ceramic tile is evaluated depending on bonding conditions such as substrate kind(concrete, board), bonding material (tile adhesive, tile cement) and curing condition(humidity 50, 70%). Based on the results, this study aimed to establish the quality of tile adhesion strength under the relevant conditions.

Chloride attack to reinforced concrete structures located in seaside can cause a serious problem of durability and maintenance during the service life. Corrosion of reinforced steel bars in concrete decreases the bond strength and finally causes the detachment of concrete cover. Polymer cement mortar is usually adopted to repair the deteriorated RC structures because of its strong bonding property. The recovered load-carrying capacity after the repair was simulated by non-linear FEM analysis. The properties of concrete, repairing materials, bonding materials and reinforced bar were used as input data. Four types of redispersible polymer powders were used as components of polymer cement mortar. Pull-off tests were carried out to examine the bond properties such as rigidity and strength. Effects of a corrosion inhibitor and the loss of reinforced bars due to the corrosion were also considered in this study. FEM modeling and analysis were conducted to propose the universal model. Physical bonding in the relationship between repair materials and steel reinforced bar is more dominant than chemical bonding.

This paper presents the results of a test program for flexural strengthening characteristics of continuous unidirectional carbon-fiber sheets bonded or/and developed to reinforced concrete (RC) beams. A total of six $150mm{\times}250mm{\times}2000mm$ concrete beams were tested. Various sheet development locations were studied to determine their effects on the ultimate flexural strength of the beams. From the test, it was found that the strength increases remarkably with the development of sheets at shear bar. Among the various location, multi-developed sheet provided the most effective strengthening for concrete beam. Beam strengthened using this scheme showed 53% increase in flexural capacity as compared to the control beam without any strengthening.

In this study, we examined the bond performance of FRP Hybrid Bars. FRP Hybrid Bars are developed by wrapping glass fibers on the outside of deformed steel rebars to solve the corrosion problem. The surface of the FRP Hybrid Bars was coated with resin and silica sand to enhance its adhesion bonding performance with concrete. Various parameters, such as the resin type, viscosity, and size of the silica sand, were selected in order to find the optimal surface condition of the FRP Hybrid Bars. For the bonding test, FRP Hybrid Bars were embedded in a concrete block with a size of 200 mm3 and the maximum load and slip were measured at the interface between the FRP Hybrid Bar and concrete through the pull-out test. From the experimental results, the maximum load and bond strength were calculated as a function of each experimental variable and the resin type, viscosity and size of the silica sand giving rise to the optimal bond performance were evaluated. The maximum bond strength of the specimen using epoxy resin and No. 5 silica sand was about 35% higher than that of the deformed rebar.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility of the decrease of bond strength due to increased thickness of resin base in indirect bracket bonding technique. Metal brackets were bonded to the resin blocks involving bovine lower incisors and the thickness of resin bases was increased by increments of 0.5 mm from 0.0 mm to 2.0 mm. They were divided into two groups, one group is that the thickness of resin base was increased but the loading point from the tooth surface was maintained constantly, the other group is that the loading point from the tooth surface and the resin base thickness were increased concomitantly. The shear bond strength was tested on universal testing machine and the failure patterns were assessed with the adhesive remnant index(ARI). The results were as follows: 1. When the distance from the tooth surface to the loading point was maintained constantly, shear bond strength was increased significantly according to the decrease of distance from the bracket base to the loading point and the increase of resin base thickness. 2. When the distance from the tooth surface to the loading point and the resin base thickness were increased concomitantly, shear bond strength was decreased according to the increase of resin base thickness but significant differences were ignorable. 3. There were no significant differences in ARI scores according to the change in the thickness of resin base. The results of the present study indicated that shear bond strength was not much affected by the thickness of resin base, whereas was decreased according to the increase of distance from bracket base to the loading point.

This paper examines the structural behavior of 3D printed concrete specimens with focus on the bond between the layers. The tensile bond and flexural strengths were investigated experimentally and compared with those of specimens made by conventional mold casting. The test parameters were the time gap between printing layers and the reinforcement between vertical layers. The results showed the 3D printed specimens had voids between layers and confirmed the strength reduction due to printing time gap and the stress concentration caused by the voids. Most of the reduction in tensile bond strength between layers was due to the stress concentration at least up to certain printing time gap. Moreover, beyond a certain printing time gap (24hours), the additional reduction in tensile bond strength reached a level that could affect the structural behavior. The reinforcement between layers was helpful to increase the ductile behavior which is essential to prevent the sudden collapse of the structure. In addition, the reduction in flexural strength due to the stress concentration by the voids was observed and should be considered in the design of 3D printed wall structures against the lateral load.
A new deformation of reinforcing bar in coils was proposed to improve a machinability of straightening process, which has crescent-shaped transverse ribs with an inclination angle of 50 degrees, a crest width of $0.15d_b$, and a flank inclination of 55 degrees. The proposed deformation can increase contact area between a surface of re-bar and a groove of a roller during a straightening process and, therefore, it might reduce a damage of ribs, improve a final straightness, and enhance an efficiency of the straightening process. Splice tests were conducted to evaluate bond strengths of three types of re-bar in coils including the proposed re-bar, of which the inclination angles of transverse ribs were 50, 60, and 90 degrees, respectively. Test results show that the re-bars in coils have higher bond strengths than predicted strengths by equations of Orangun et al., ACI 408, and KCI by at least 10%. Correlation coefficients of bond strengths between a straight bar and re-bars in coils are 0.94 and more. Consequently, equations of the KCI code for determining development and splice lengths can be applied to the tested re-bars in coils.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of ionic strength and iron impregnation on the attachment of Enterococcus faecalis to granular activated carbon (GAC). Column experiments were performed to examine bacterial adhesion to coconutbased GAC (c-GAC), iron-impregnated c-GAC (fc-GAC), acid-washed c-GAC (a-GAC) and iron-impregnated a-GAC (fa-GAC) under two different solution (NaCl 1, 10 mM) conditions. Results showed that bacterial mass recovery in c-GAC decreased from 77.3 to 61.6% while in a-GAC it decreased from 71.6 to 32.3% with increasing ionic strength from 1 to 10 mM. This indicates that bacterial attachment to GAC can be enhanced with increasing ionic strength. Results also showed that the mass recoveries in fc-GAC were 62.6% (1 mM) and 53.3% (10 mM) while they were 50.8% (1 mM) and 16.9%(10 mM) in fa-GAC, which were lower than those in c-GAC and a-GAC. This demonstrates that bacterial adhesion to GAC can be enhanced through iron impregnation. This study provides information regarding the effects of ionic strength and iron impregnation on bacterial attachment to GAC. Furthermore, this study will advance our knowledge of bacterial removal in surface-modified granular media.
