EEG Study for the Effects of Mouth Breathing on Brain Functions (구강 호흡이 뇌기능에 미치는 영향에 관한 EEG 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the effects of mouth breathing on brain activity through electroencephalogram (EEG). EEG was performed on 12 healthy volunteers of age ranging from 21 to 27 years (male: female = 6:6, non-smoker). Brain waves on resting state (Rest_N/Rest_M) and auditory-language stimuli state (Eng_N/Eng_M) were recorded during mouth and nose breathing. Four different regions (R1~R4) were classified based on the brain functionality. And each channel (e.g., Pf1 and Pf2) and frequency (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$, and ${\theta}$) were analyzed using their absolute power ratios of fast Fourier transform (FFT). The results showed that there was no significant difference between Rest_N and Rest_M. Eng_N had significantly higher brain activity than Rest_N; on the other hand, there was no significant difference between Rest_M and Eng_M. These results demonstrate that mouth-breathing on resting state does not induce any significant effects on brain activity and/or functionality, even though it causes subtle temporary inconvenience. In addition to the uncomfort, the brain activity can be adversely influenced by mouth-breathing, which could lower the cognitive skills under certain circumstances.

Quality Characteristics of Muffin Added with Rice Bran (쌀겨를 첨가한 머핀의 품질 특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality properties of muffin added with different concentration (0, 1, 3, and 5%) of rice bran. The results indicated no significant difference in the weight of muffins with different concentration of rice bran. The moisture content of the muffin decreased with longer storage time. The moisture content of the muffin to which 0, 3, 5, and 10% rice bran were 26.62, 29.07, 30.72, and 27.53%, respectively. The muffins' hardness was higher on storage day 1 than on the initial storage day. As for adhesiveness, there was no significant difference between storage time and rice bran concentration. The springiness decreased with increasing storage time. The sensory score showed that the muffin without rice bran had a higher color and flavor than the others while the muffins with rice bran had higher taste, moistness, chewiness, and overall acceptability scores than control(0%).

Study on the Effects of Corrosion Inhibitor According to the Functional Groups for Cu Chemical Mechanical Polishing in Neutral Environment (중성 영역 구리 화학적 기계적 평탄화 공정에서의 작용기에 따른 부식방지제의 영향성 연구)

  • As the aluminum (Al) metallization process was replaced with copper (Cu), the damascene process was introduced, which required the planarization step to eliminate over-deposited Cu with Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) process. In this study, the verification of the corrosion inhibitors, one of the Cu CMP slurry components, was conducted to find out the tendency regarding the carboxyl and amino functional group in neutral environment. Through the results of etch rate, removal rate, and chemical ability of corrosion inhibitors based on 1H-1,2,4-triazole as the base-corrosion inhibitor, while the amine functional group presents high Cu etching ability, carboxyl functional group shows lower Cu etching ability than base-corrosion inhibitor which means that it increases passivation effect by making strong passivation layer. It implies that the corrosion inhibitor with amine functional group was proper to apply for 1st Cu CMP slurry owing to the high etch rate and with carboxyl functional group was favorable for the 2nd Cu CMP slurry due to the high Cu removal rate/dissolution rate ratio.

Properties of Wet Noodle Changed by the Addition of Sanghwang Mushroom (Phellinus linteus) Powder and Extract (상황버섯 분말과 추출액을 첨가한 국수의 품질특성)

  • Effects of sangwhang mushroom (Phellinus linteus) powder and extract on quality of wet noodle were investigated by adding sangwhang mushroom powder at 2% (w/w: II) of wheat flour and extract at 17 (v/w: III) and 34% (v/w: IV) based on flour source, respectively. Significant decreases were found in L values of dough and noodle, while a and b values increased in proportion to addition of sangwhang mushroom. Addition of sangwhang mushroom decreased volume of cooked noodles, but increased turbidity of soup. Tensions of cooked noodle samples of II, III, IV, and control were 12.17, 17.61, 17.57, and 14.90g, respectively. Sensory properties, including color, flavor, taste, and texture, of noodles added with sangwhang mushroom extracts (III, IV) were significantly superior to control (I) and noodle added with powder (II). These results suggest addition of sangwhang mushroom extract is more suitable than powder for noodle processing.

  • This paper presents a method for effectively modeling inlay/onlay prostheses restoring a tooth that are partially destroyed. An inlay/onlay is composed of internal surface adhering to an abutment, and external surface revealed to the outside sight. Internal surfaces are modeled using Minkowski sum expanding the grinded surface parts of abutments so that the internal surfaces can adhere to the abutments with closer contact. In modeling external surfaces, we exploit 3D mesh deformation techniques: DMFFD(direct manipulation free-form deformation)[19] and MWD(multiple wires deformation)[17] with three kinds of informations: standard teeth models, mesh data obtained by scanning a plaster cast of a patient's tooth, FGP(functionally guided plane) measuring the occlusion of the patients's teeth. The standard teeth models are used for building up the basic shapes of external surfaces, while the plaster fast and FGP data are used for reflecting the unique properties of adjacent md occlusal surfaces of the patients's teeth, which are slightly different to each other but very important for correct functioning. With these informations as input data, the adjacent and occlusal surfaces are automatically generated as mesh data using the techniques of DMFFD and m, respectively. Our method was implemented so that inlay/onlay prostheses fan be designed more accurately by visualizing the generated mesh models with requirements by dentists.

  • 1. 일시수확형 고추의 기계수확 요인을 구명하기 위하여 4종류의 탈과장치를 제작하여 공시고추로 탈과시험을 실시한 결과 탈과장치는 방사대칭식(브러쉬형), 고추이송(공급)속도는 0.1m/s, 탈과장치 간격은 3cm, 탈과장치 회전수는 180rpm에서 정상탈과율 77.3%, 손상률 7.6% 미탈과율 3.0%로 가장 양호한 성적이 나타났다. 2. 방사대칭식(브러쉬형) 탈과장치를 이용하여 무지용 상향착과형 고추, 지주용 하향착과형 고추, 지주용 상향착과형 고추를 공시하여 고추별 탈과시험을 실시한 결과, 고추이송(공급)속도 0.1m/s, 원통사이간격 3cm, 탈과장치 회전수 180rpm에서 가장 양호한 성적이 나왔으며, 지주용 하향착과형 고추가 정상탈과률 82.7%, 손상률 7.4%, 미탈과율 2.7%로 무지주용 상향착과형 고추(52.3%, 14.3%, 12.5%)와 지주용 상향착과형 고추(77.3%, 7.6%. 3.0%)에 비해 기계수확에 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 3. 이상의 고추 기계수확 요인시험의 결과, 탈과장치는 방사대칭식(브러쉬형) 고추종류로는 하향착과형 고추가 기계수확에 바람직한 것으로 나타났으며, 수확 후 회수가 가능한 줄기부착고추를 포함한다면 고추기계수확률은 80% 이상, 꼭지가 떨어진 것이 대부분인 손상고추도 수확 후 즉시 기계건조하여 가공용으로 사용한다고 가정한다면 기계 수확률은 90% 이상 가능하지만, 이것의 수용 여부는 좀 더 폭넓은 의견수렴 및 조사가 필요하다고 사료된다. 4. 고추수확 기계화를 위해서는 실내요인 시험 결과를 토대로 포장에서 수확메커니즘 구명과 더불어 고추 과실이 크고 무지주용 하향착과형 일시수확형 고추 품종의 개발이 병행되어야 한다고 판단된다. 5) 마늘 선별작업 -마늘선별기는 작업성능이 높고 5등급으로 균일 선별되었으며 손상도 없었으나, 기계가 크고 무거워 이동이 곤란하고 가격이 비싸므로 선별등급을 3∼4단계로 줄이고 소형 농가보급형으로 개량제작이 요구됨. 나. 마늘재배 일관기계화에 의한 노동투하시간과 비용 -종자준비부터 통마늘선별까지의 일관기계화로 투입된 주요작업의 노력은 75∼76%가 절감되고, 재배규모 3ha기준시 비용은 44-53%절감되었음. the annealing texture. Sister Chromatid Exchanges in Lymphocytes of Some Workers Exposed to Hexavalent Chromium (일부 6가 크롬 폭로 작업자의 임파구 자매염색분체교환)

  • To investigate the possibility of utilizing of sister chromatid exchange(SCE) analysis in lymphocytes as an indicator which could evaluate the effects of mutagenicity after in vivo exposure to hexavalent chromium, this study was conducted using some of chromium plating workers occupationally exposed to hexavalent chromium, chromium trioxide ($CrO_3$) in Taegu city. The study population was 12 Cr platers with perforation of nasal septum, 12 Cr platers without perforation of nasal septum and 20 controls. The SCE in peripheral blood lymphocytes of the subjects was analyzed and blood chromium concentration was estimated using the atomic absorption spectrophotometer (IL551) equipped with furnace atomizer (IL755). The mean SCE frequencies for Cr platers with and without perforation of nasal septum were statistically higher than those for control. The difference in SCE frequencies by age, smoking habits were not statistically significant both in Cr platers and controls. There was no difference in SCE frequencies by career of Cr platers workers. In Cr platers, the correlation between the mean SCE frequencies and chromium concentration in blood was not statistically significant. Using the transformation $y=(sum\;SCE)^{\frac{1}{2}}+(sum\;SCE+1)^{\frac{1}{2}}$, when the data was studied by multiple regression, it appeared that the influence of the occupation was the most important. Age, smoking, occupation and CrB(blood chromium concentration) together explain only 32.3% of interpersonal variation on SCE. The results in this study suggest tt a genetic risk due to occupationally exposure to hexavalent chromium is clearly inferable and thus, SCE analysis in human lymphocytes may be used indicator of biological toxic effects of chromium. Further, populatio analysis stuies are required before SCE frequency can be used as a mutagenic indicator in human population.

Stress Variation Characteristics of Temporary Fixed Steel Rod in FCM Bridge Construction Method (FCM 교량 가설 공법에서 임시 고정 강봉의 응력 변화 특성 )

  • In this study, the stress characteristics of temporary fixed steel rods were analyzed in the "temporary fixing system using internal prestressing tension", which is mainly applied to the construction of superstructures by FCM. It was difficult to confirm the changes in initial tensile force in this system because the steel rod was internally connected to the pier and the PSC BOX. Therefore, measurement was performed before and after the completion of each segment using an FBG sensor to measure the change in the micro length of the steel rod. The results of the analysis showed that 75% to 90% of the maximum vertical contraction of the steel rod that occurred until the completion of the cantilever segment occurred in the fixing ~ 1segment, and the maximum loss of initial prestressing force was 39%. Such excessive loss of tension force to 1 segment means that tension is needed to improve the precision of construction during the fixation, and re-tension is needed to secure stability for conduction of cantilever segments after the completion of 1segment. In the 2 ~ last segment, the stress of the steel rod decreased gradually, and in the summer, the decrease in stress tended to partially recover due to the increase in the length of the steel rod corresponding to the increase in the vertical volume of PSC BOX. The dominant factor in the stress change in 2~ last segment in this phenomenon is judged to be the change in the length of the steel rod according to the temperature. Unlike the change in length, the relaxation was 1.2-2.7%, which was mostly offset by the opposite stress corresponding to the temperature stress. Therefore, a plan was proposed to improve the internal stress, such as adjusting the fixation time.

Analysis of Occlusal Contacts Using Add-picture Method (Add-picture 방법을 이용한 교합접촉점 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the area of occlusal contact points using visual method. One subject was selected who had Angle Class I, normal dentition, without dental caries, periodontal disease and temporomandibular disorders. Forty times PVS impressions were taken and 10 pairs casts were fabricated using dental super hard stone. After mounting the casts with customized loading apparatus, 78.9kg/f force was loaded as a maximum biting force. In T-Scan method, occlusal contact points measurement was repeated twice. Then, using Photoshop program (Adobe photoshop CS3, Adobe. San Jose, USA), the pixels which indicated occlusal contact points by color was recognized, and the distribution of recognized pixels were calculated to area. In Add picture method, polyether bite material applied to the occlusal surface of the casts. Then, the image of the translucent areas was recorded and classified $0{\sim}10{\mu}m$, $0{\sim}30{\mu}m$, $0{\sim}60{\mu}m$ area by the amount of transmitted light. To acquire occlusal surface, the numbers of pixels from the photograph of the contact area indicated cast converted to $mm^2$. The mean occlusal contact area by two methods was statistically analyzed (paired t-test). Part of the red and pink area in T-Scan image were almost equivalent to the $0{\sim}10{\mu}m$, $0{\sim}30{\mu}m$, $0{\sim}60{\mu}m$ area in Add picture image. The distribution of occlusal contact points were similar, but the average area of occlusal contact points was wider in T-scan image (P<.05). Pink and red area in T-scan image was wider than $0{\sim}10{\mu}m$, $0{\sim}30{\mu}m$ area in Add picture image (P<.05), but similar to $0{\sim}60{\mu}m$area in Add picture image (P>.05). Occlusal contact points in T-scan image did not indicate real occlusal contact points. Occlusal contact areas in T-scan method were enlarged results comparing with those in Add picture method.

Regional load deflection rate of multiloop edgewise archwire (Multiloop edgewise arch wire의 부위별 하중변형률)

  • This study was conducted in order to analyze the mechanical characteristics of multiloop edgewise archwire (MEAW). The purposes were 1) to compare load deflection rate (LDR) of MEAW with that of various other arch wires in the individual interbracket span, 2) to compare the wire stiffness in the interbracket span with that in the multi-L-loop region (the span from distal border of the bracket of the lateral incisor to the mesial border of the buccal tube of the second molar), and 3) to verify the experimental results with theoretically derived formula. The single L-loops of five different horizontal lengths and multi-L-loops for the upper and lower arches were made out of .$016\times.022$ permachrome stainless steel wire. Straight segment of plain stainless steel, TMA and NiTi wire of the same dimension were prepared. The LDR was measured using Instron model 4466 with the load cell of 50N capacity at cross head speed of 1.0mm/min, and maximum deflection of 1.0mm. Five specimens were tested under each experimental condition. The wire stiffness number for each interbracket region and multi-L-loop region was calculated from the LDR and the interbracket spans. By dividing the theoretical model of multi-L-loop into 35 linear segments, the energy stored in each segment was obtained. Then the LDR and wire stiffness of single L-loop and multi-L-loop were calculated and compared. The findings were as follows : 1) The average LDR of MEAW in the individual interbracket region was 1/1.53 of that of the NiTi,1/2.47 of TMA and 1/5.16 of the plain stainless steel wire. 2) The wire stiffness of MEAW in the multi-L-loop region was 1.53 times larger than that in the interbracket region, and the LDR was almost twice as large as that of NiTi in that region. 3) According to the theoretically derived equation, the wire stiffness of the single L-loop was lower than that of multi-L-loop. The results of this study suggest that MEAW has the unique mechanical Property which could allow individual tooth movement and transmit elastic force effectively through the entire arch wire.
